Had a wonderful meal this past weekend. Tried majority of the appetizers and a couple entrees. The schnitzel was amazing, extremely light but full of flavor. The white asparagus was tasty as well. Service was impeccable. I'm a lover of Austrian and German food and Wallse did not disappoint. Thank you.

Excellent service, beautiful plating, and delicious tasting dishes. This is the place to go to for experiencing authentic high end Austrian cuisine. The fois Gras and weinersnitzel were standouts and they have an impressive array of Austrian schnapps. Very relaxed romantic atmosphere allows for a quiet dining experience.

I happened upon this restaurant recently and wanted to check it out. We grabbed a late Thursday dinner here. We ordered the rabbit schnitzel, steak tartare, heirloom peach salad, and the goulash. Everything was good, except the meat in the goulash was overcooked. The rabbit was definitely not the star of the dish but it was still good, just not exceptional.
We had a bottle of wine and the wine was funky, but good. Austrian wine, a Pinot.
Service was attentive and great.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 28, 2023
Took my bf here for his birthday - made reservations in advanced. We were promptly seated. My bf is from Germany and he gave his stamp of approval. Great wine and beer list. They also provided extra cookies since it was for his birthday celebration. Will be back!

Fantastic Austrian food in the West Village with impeccable service. The vibe was old New York sophistication paired with global influences. The clientele seemed European and Asian but more mature than the typical "scene-y" crowd that permeates the neighborhood. We ordered the beets, beef tartare, foie gras and a few pretzels as appetizers. This place served the best pretzel I've ever had in my life. The truffle spatzle tasted like risotto and was very good. The glazed duck breast was full of flavor. The portions were reasonable. For dessert, we got the black forest cake and the salzburger nockerl. The nockerl was the showstopper - it was a fluffy soufflé that was baked to perfection.

First time I walked by this place, the fragrant aroma lingered for a long time, which made me want to come back and try it. Finally made it out to this place tonight, and I have to we are very disappointed.
Service: Staff were all pretty friendly and welcoming, however noticed that our waiter was attentive but felt insincere at times.
What we ordered:
Oyster with tuna and caviar. 1/5
For a $27 appetizer, these have got to be one of the worst oyster we have ever had. The oysters were the size of a $1 coin, and were very dry. It seemed they added the raw tuna to cover up for the lack of the oyster salt water you expect from fresh oysters. Furthermore, the oysters / tuna were a bit fishy/not fresh tasting.
Lobster soup: 2/5
Grossly fishy...there is also no lobster inside or it at all. Just tastes like a fishy tomato soup with hints of broccoli?
Lobster Ravioli: 3/5
Most of the lobster was over cooked and really tough and chewy. I would say they did an excellent job on the sauce. (Honestly would have to say it's the best part of the entire meal). The ravioli itself however was gross because it was difficult to pick up without the entire thing falling apart. I expected more from a $48 dish.
Short rib: 3/5
The beef was a bit tough to chew...and the sauce looked a bit unappetizing. There was no wow factor for the marinade and sauce. They call the side a "potato purée", however it's just some basic mashed potatoes that did not have any wow factor. Disappointing for a main dish with such a high price point.
Pretzel w/ Butter ( appetizer) 2/5
Tiny pretzel, nothing special about it. The butter wasn't even that unique.
Drinks: 5/5
Delicious cocktails and mock tails. Ordered the gurke which tasted like a dill cucumber refreshing spritzer. Mock tail was a delicious cucumber mint mix.
Although we are glad we came back to try this place, don't think we would come back here. The price is not worth it for a meal that's mediocre at best. Save your money and Just go to Boucherie insteadHelpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 8, 2023
Pretty good food! I liked it better than I thought I would, esp the smoked trout appetizer and the lobster with ravioli, but everything else was pretty meh and our server was a little odd.
Overall, pretty good place if you're in the area!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 365211Apr 9, 2023
Solid 2 star for food, 4 service. 4 star for ambiance.
Came here for a date night and we were not impressed by the food.
We ordered:
- Oysters / tuna tartare and caviar
- pretzel
- lobster tomato soup
- beef goulash?
- lobster ravioli
- sides of the Mac and cheese and mashed potato
The tuna/caviar was very fishy. It didn't taste fresh.
Pretzel was alright. Bread and butter basically
Lobster tomato soup was fishy at the top. The mixture was parting because the base was creamier than the top. Definitely a pass.
The beef was very generic. Nothing different or amazing about it. Definitely something that should be passed on.
I liked the lobster ravioli but it literally came with 2 raviolis that were so delicate that it fell apart when you picked it up. The lobster tail was tiny and over cooked.
The Mac and cheese was the most mushy macaroni pasta I have ever had.
The mashed potatoes were good but that really should not be the highlight.
Overall, food was eh. A bit basic. As some others noted; the menu does not change although it looks as if it does. Not worth the price and probably not a place I would return to deliberately.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Pat D.New York, NY05Apr 20, 2024
Easter Dinner was PERFECT! Fish entree was delicious, spring pea soup was so fresh and that panna cotta! Best meal I've had in a longtime. Service and decor matched the casual precision of the kitchen. Coming back soon.

Very good modern Central European restaurant. I suspect a lot of diners will find it to be just okay even compared to second tier neighborhood Italian joints. The Michelin Star, for me, is hard to understand. The cuisine is unique but the "full package" wasn't quite present. Maybe if we get people jamming in for a modern interpretation of Tafelspitz it'd be more exciting.

Food was great. Service was good and fast. The atmosphere was modern and almost casual - felt very approachable for a Michelin-starred resturant. We were greeted immediately at the door by the hostess and directed to our seats after checking reservation. The server checked in on if we were celebrating any special occasion and gave us enough time to check the food and drink menu. He was descriptive with the dishes, giving recommendations and answering any and all questions. With the help of the server, was able to decide on a wonderful glass of white wine (Gelber Muskateller) and a couple dishes: pretzel, quark spatzle, wiener schnitzel, and scallops. Food came out relatively quickly. The pretzel was small but was warm and pleasant to eat - be aware to remove the salt (is very salty). By the time we were done with the pretzel, the mains were served. The schnitzel had great flavor and was surprisingly light - the meat was tender, flavorful, and thin, the coating was light - almost fluffy. For something that is deep-fried, it didn't feel heavy or too oily. The lingonberry sauce on the side was fine but we personally liked the dish without. The potatoes were a nice carb-y source to the dish while the cucumbers helped cleanse the palette. The quark spatzle was fine - was not my cup of tea but fortunately my partner enjoyed it. Creamy, carb-y, and had a hint of acidity to it. The scallops were the star of the snow - three large pieces, cooked to perfection, laying on a bed of potato puree. Paired with fava beans and a slightly bitter and tart cherry sauce. The Scallops were seared perfectly on the outside while remaining warm, soft, and tender in the inside. The sauces and foam paired well with the scallops, we completely devoured the dish - leaving no trace on the plate (sauce included)! We finished off the meal with ordering a dessert. However, we were pleasantly surprised with two: salzburger nockerl and almond financier. The former was fluffy, light and easy to eat, reminding me of a marshmallow meringue lying on a bed of tart berry compote. The latter was a semi-dense almond cake with a orange sorbet and a sugar crisp on top. Thank you to the kitchen and team for the extra dessert - it was on the house as we were celebrating an anniversary. It was very much appreciated!
