We've ordered from Vaqueros Carne Asada on multiple occasions (we live up the street) and our food is always, hot, delicious, and generously served.
In the past we've ordered pollo asado nachos and carne asada nachos, horchata, agua de tamarindo, agua de jamaica, and today we order two plates: enchilada (beef) + chile relleno with rice and beans, and, burrito (chicken) + enchilada (cheese) with rice and beans and it was delectable! The beans are delicious and feel whipped (this reminds me of mi mama's cooking). The chile relleno has a delicious batter. Everything was very well seasoned, including the carrots we ordered on the side.
Highly recommend Vaqueros!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - William W.Spring Valley, CA02Apr 17, 2024
Burrito had a foreign object inside of it! Taken back and a full refund was provided. Beware!

Follow the yellow and red striped hat!
Located on the beautiful outskirts of San Diego in Encanto, Vaqueros has been serving the community for decades. The family owned restaurant is best known for its carne asada, but my personal favorite are the rolled tacos, a fried shredded beef and corn tortilla taco rolled into a tube and topped with lettuce, cheese, and guacamole. The prices are reasonable (around $5-$15), and there's many quantity options. The drive thru establishment also has a selection of Mexican food, including burritos, tacos, and the infamous carne asada fries, another entree I recommend.
Parking is minimal and the drive thru can get pretty busy. This is the type of place where you will want to eat the food immediately after ordering, when the food is hot!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - J. G.Washington, DC014Feb 11, 2024
Avoid this place at all costs. There was a half of a toothpick INSIDE my rolled taco. Stabbed and got stuck in the roof of my mouth- decent amount of blood.
Completely not OK.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Elizabeth V.Downey, CA4566108Apr 30, 2023
New to the neighborhood , always drive by and it looks packed . So today we decided to try this place .
Let's just say the reason why it locks packed is because their set up is just wrong ... the drive up window is right next to the entrance of the business . This , two cars make the place look like it has a line .
Now let's get to the review .....
Food 7/10 . We ordered carne asada fries . Although they were not the best we had ever had they were descent . They have carne asada , fried , cheese , guacamole and sour cream .
The salsa they provide on the side is lacking flavor . They are both ( red and green ) very watery and flavorless .
Agua fresca ( horchata ) no complaints . I'm sure it's not homemade but rather from the machine and I'm okay with that .
Service : 7/10. It was descent . I would expect nothing less considering the place was not busy when we went .
Ambiance : 5/10. Reason why we are giving it a review that's either acceptable or to neglect is because this is not a place that makes you want to stop . You can see there is outdoor sitting yet it looks closed off ... and the location is not ideal.
Overall :6/10 . Descent food specially for a late night run or no time to cook dinner . Specially if your in the neighborhood.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Moses G.San Diego, CA3281Dec 23, 2023Updated review
Go here if you want to buy an $8 bean and cheese burrito. Place went downhill since ownership changed few years ago.

Mostly know to me as "the barrel", we've been going here for who knows how long. The burritos are huge and affordable. It can be a hit or miss with more hits than misses but I wish they had a different hot sauce. The hot sauce is very watered down with no flavor, just spicy.
