Valdez Baseball Academy

A little bit hard to find, as it is hidden inside gold's gym, but very warm welcome. We spent a great time batting with a group of friends.

David and his instructors are the very best. My son has improved exponentially with their help. I never though it could be done. You could not get a nicer, patient group of instructors anywhere. When I say patient, I mean the patience of Job. I am almost reluctant to post a great review because I want to keep this hidden gem in the back of Gold's Gym all to myself.

We have been at Valdez Academy for several years. David and Douglas are good instructors on hitting and our son did progress as a hitter through years of hitting drills. He also played on their 14 and under Defenders AAU team last year when Douglas coached. The team was ok in talent, did not win a lot of games, but Douglas was still instructive and I think our son got something from that season. This year he played on the 14 and under team again, but with a new coach (Elvis). It was almost a complete waste of time. We have one good game when David showed up, but when Elvis was left alone to "coach" the boys, he was very disengaged, not giving any verbal guidance to boys that could clearly have used it, and even did not sit on the bench when he wanted to sit in the shade. That and his texting, even while coaching third base, were huge signals of how little he cared about the team. I think this was felt by the team and less and less kids showed up leading to several forfeits. Overall, I think Valdez has gone down in its quality and in some ways I feel they've given up on the team and perhaps the program. We thought about asking for refund, but we think it's pointless at this stage. If you thinking about instructions, that may be fine. If you're thinking about AAU baseball, I suggest you evaluate other options.
