Tripps is terrific for high end chain food. It's not a five star restaurant but it is higher quality than your typical chain restaurant and often that makes big difference. We come here frequently for late brunch on Sunday because Greensboro really lacks a lot of brunch options and the ones they have are just so overcrowded it puts us off. Tripps is a good middle ground in many ways.
The food is good, the prices are reasonable for mid-to-upper level chain restaurants, and the service is always friendly if not always extremely professional.
The bar area has TV's which allow you to monitor your favorite sports while having a little Sunday brunch, and extend it with an extra drink or two if you're so inclined. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 27228224Dec 21, 2023
The restaurant ambiance is very nice. It was mostly clean and updated.
Our waiter Darrin was amazing. He explained everything and was very friendly.
The food good was but not great. Everything was fresh and solid. I would recommend the Wall Street chicken sandwich.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 0232176Jan 3, 2024Updated review
Wonderful Wednesdays. Half Price Wine by the bottle or glass & juicy slow roasted Prime Rib. A great combination & deal. Try the bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Wonderful Wednesdays.

My favorites: Aged Ribeye Steak, Lemon Mushroom Chicken & Bacon Cranberry Turkey Flatbread. Also the House Salad with pine nuts. Great choice of Beer, Mixed & Soft Drinks & Wine. Jan 31, 2015Previous reviewSo many things have changed...house salad used to be my favorite...full of tomatoes, cucumbers, but none to be found today..menu items...standouts like lemon and mushroom chicken or chocolate pie have disappeared...top that off with no manager in sight and bad service and higher prices and you'll be looking for another favorite restaurant.

Very disappointed! We couldn't believe how the prices had been jacked up and less food. The salad has shrunk considerably and you had to pay extra for bread. It use to come with your meal. My friend's steak was gristly and tough. She tried 3 times to correct it but finally gave up and went away hungry. We won't be visiting again.

Looking for a nearby restaurant while staying in Greensboro, Tripps was just across the highway so I headed over to grab some dinner.
The décor is older pub style motif with greens and browns - it is cozy and the lighting was decent. Not to bright but not exactly dark. Perfect.
I grabbed a seat at the bar as I was alone and the bartender was there fairly quickly. I got going with a nice glass of red and looked over the menu.
The menu is good sized with a decent selection of appetizers, salads and mains. I went with a shrimp and grits entrée and sat back to look around. There were some tv's at the bar aimed more at the dining room than the bar but the food came out in fairly quick order.
The portion was definitely large and there were plenty of shrimp. On the downside, the whole dish was swimming in what appeared to be butter or oil, so I had to do a lot of "forking to the side and let it drain" action so as not to eat all of that.
With that being said, it was tasty enough and definitely filling.
Pricing was average for the meal and overall a solid 3-star place.
Plenty of parking around the perimeter.
Give it a shot if in the area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Aug 7, 2023
This was a nostalgic visit for me and my husband. I used to go a lot growing up. The inside is a bit worn and there were some dirty tables that needed to be cleaned and the bathrooms needed attention. The food was good like we remembered. I had the filet and baked potato. The steak was tender and well-cooked. They make a tasty honey mustard salad dressing.

Great ambiance. While Sunday football was on the TVs the volume was off. Thank you! The screens aren't right in your face when sitting in a comfortable booth. Salad was fresh and generous portion. Brunch menu was still available--crab cake eggs Benedict has been a staple on their menu for years. It brought back good memories. I miss the Raleigh Tripp's location. The Service here was okay.

Second time in less than a month here. Had the 5 citrus margarita. It was good. Another member of my party had the margarita coco. He said it was an 8/10. I chose the ahi tuna appetizer as my meal. The fresh crackers served with it were good and I liked it a lot. Overall 4.4 out of 5

I recently visited here again because I was craving the calamari salad that's no longer on the menu (but you can still order). I will say I wish it was still on the menu and therefore it would be more consistent. It's kind of hit or miss and I really loved that salad! I will continue to try it. Maybe not on a Sunday when they like to offer more brunch items. Stay tuned. But trust me, when it's good, it really good.

They have a calamari salad that is no longer on the menu that you can still order. It is my favorite. Today I just ordered the calamari appetizer and it was good. I would not say it was great because a lot of it was soggy due to the Mediterranean sauce they tossed it in. I have had perfect calamari from here before so I think next time I will ask for them to be cooked a little more crispy. They toss the calamari in a beautiful blend of tomatoes, red bell peppers and olives and it is just perfection. The price is really good also.

This review is for those from out of town or visiting Greensboro. Those that live here know the story of Tripps. An iconic Greensboro restaurant. Went in to try their brunch two weeks ago. First of all the restaurant is polished and clean, a throwback to the great restaurants in the 70's, 80's and 90's. The menu is vast and varietal. Had the Eggs Benedict and my server was Carmella. Carmella was engaging, knowledgeable and funny. Ordered it as Eggs Bene and she thought I was a New Yorker. Dish was flavorful and affordable. A gem for those from out of town. A must see and enjoy. Ask for Carmella from Cali.
