Tonchin

One of the things I really wanted while visiting NYC was a good bowl of ramen. There are countless options around the city. We decided on Tonchin on recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. The chicken wings were tasty down to the bone. The handmade noodles were smooth with just the right about of bite to them. The broth was deeply flavorful and satisfying. I look forward for the opportunity to return and sample all the other dishes.

The night I arrived in New York (from Colorado) my travel companion and I visited this place on the recommendation of our Uber driver. We arrived at around 9:00 p.m. and place was packed. We had to sit at a communal table which was fine. We both had the Ramen bowls. Very steaming hot, had to let cool. Once cooled, the broth was the best and the noodles were perfect! No doubt about it, this place deserves the M Star!

Server was good, very efficient. Highly recommend.

Delicious ramen and good vibes in Midtown.

I had a reservation for dinner on Thursday at 7:15 for party of 3. We were running a little bit and got there closer to 7:30, but they were nice enough to hold our reservation until we arrived. All members of the party need to be present to be seated.

There's counter seating at the front of the restaurant and booth/table seating in the back. We were seated in one of the booths.

We each ordered an entree and shared a dessert. I got the smoked dashi ramen for $22. It was good and I loved the smoky flavor of the broth, but I didn't realize it came with only clams and not chashu. I wish it had a slice or two of chashu as well, since it doesn't quite feel like I'm eating ramen without it. The menma (bamboo shoots) was super chewy and tasty though, some of the best I've had in ramen.

My friends ordered the Tokyo Tonkotsu ($21) and the Ban Ban Chicken ($22) and enjoyed their meals as well.

We ended the meal with a sweet note by sharing the Tokyo Banana ($14), a banana pudding that is made with banana, cream, vanilla, short bread, coconut pudding, and kinako. It was good but not amazing.

Ended up here accidentally on a layover: Hands down, the BEST ramen I've ever had - springy, slurpy noodles, incredible broth, and delectable pork. Sat at the bar and enjoyed excellent service with an interesting cocktail menu. If you enjoy gin, I highly recommend the Japanese 75. Also, I don't know what the dessert was called on the menu, but it was some sort of whipped cream, creme-brûlée'd banana magic. Order it and enjoy the decadent, creamy, life-changing experience.

Loved it so much, I ordered another ramen, to-go, to Florida! They individually packaged everything in leak-proof containers and even wrote out instructions for the perfect reheating. Phenomenal service, great atmosphere, ridiculous food. I'll be back. Again and again.

So happy I found this place! Highly recommend making reservations as this place gets packed on weekends. I'm vegetarian so I'm happy that they had more than 1 option for me. I loved the miso ramen; the noodles, broth, amazing! The pizza ramen was different but tasty. Not sure if I would get that again but definitely will comeback for the miso!!

Came here on a Friday around 2pm without reservation and got seated quickly after a few minutes wait. I tried lunch set which you can pick one appetizer and one entree, I got eel rice ball and classic Tokyo ramen, both were soooo good.
The ambience is casual yet chic.
Definitely will be back!

I came in feeling especially hungry so I was really looking forward to trying the ramen, especially with the raving reviews that I had seen from before I got here. I recalled there being a wait, but considering it was around lunchtime I suppose it made sense. The service took a while but was friendly (the waiters would come around a lot to refill your water) and there was a nice, clean atmosphere.

Once we were seated, I got the Classic Tokyo Ramen and the Matcha Kaki-gori. Maybe I was feeling off today because I found it a bit lackluster. It was good, don't get me wrong, but there was just something off about it. Maybe I'm just not a fan of lighter tonkotsus, but I can see the appeal for other people. The Matcha Kaki-gori, on the other hand, was amazing. I would've been satisfied just eating this, and both dishes made for a relatively satisfying meal.

I wouldn't mind coming back again to try a different tonkotsu, and I would very much like to try the other kaki-goris. The flavors on their menu all looked incredibly tempting, and it was hard to make a decision because of how good everything sounded on the menu.

Ramen is not "just ramen" here. You cannot perfect the broths they've made, the unctuous ingredients on the rice balls, the fresh bamboo shoots or the wonderfully intuitive service. Ceremonial Grade Matcha Shaved Ice was divine.

I would definitely come here again and try more things!

Excellent! You can't go wrong with anything at Tonchin though sometimes you may have to wait. Worry not because the wait will be worth it!

Their tonkotsu is relatively light and 'cleaner' feeling than some other tonkotsus I've had but without sacrificing any of the flavor. That alone earns Tonchin praise but they do well at other dishes too like their smoked dashi ramen or various tsukemens.

Appetizer wise, I've had their gyoza and their chicken wings. Between the two, I'd say their chicken wings are more uniquely delicious but you really can't go wrong.

The interior of the restaurant is nice and clean and service is to par as well.
