Not a good experience, but it was made better by the excellent front of house team. I am unlikely to ever return to this place, which seems a shame considering its placement on the seafront, I suppose if they get an entirely new kitchen staff then I might consider returning.
The tea, coffee and hot chocolate is good but as The Waterfront is a restaurant and failed so dramatically to feed us edible food there is little to say. Food description, as a group we were four adults and a small child, we all ordered fish dishes and a child portion of penne with chicken. When the penne arrived it came in a watery sauce and was really not good my niece would not touch it, and if only we had learnt from her example we might of walked away having had a better experience. Me and my brother ordered the fish stew, which first delivered to the table arrived with mold covered crusty bread, what quickly taken away and brought back with sliced bread, once tasted it became clear all the fish was over cooked. My brothers wife ordered spaghetti with seafood and have a very similar experience to my niece, my mum ordered the mussels mariniere and it came with lots of broken shells not something you want to see if you understand how mussels are meant to be cooked.
The only thing that saved this place was as I said the front of house staff, who once attention was brought knocked 60% off our bill. If I were to make a recommendation to another local establishment try and poach the woman away to save her reputation from this awful place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (anthon…)London, United Kingdom26Nov 2, 2009
I can only agree with Lyndyloubs review.
We went last Sunday. Initially we were ignored at the bar and others served first.
We ordered 2 soups and 3 main courses.
We had to ask a waitress to clear our table 15 mins later as it had all the previous occupants plates on it.
After about 40 mins we asked where our soups were. No one seemed to care or take any responsibility.
After an hour or so the soups arrived. We had to ask for cutlery and for the bread roll accompaniment. We had had enough by then and asked for our money back and left.
I cannot begin to describe what a terrible experience this was. The old man behind the bar was miserable and no-one apologized to us.
Avoid this 'restaurant' at all costs!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Lyndyl…)Luton, United Kingdom4514Sep 26, 2009
Today we decided to give the Waterfront Restaurant at totland Bay another chance, mainly because of the wonderful location, after the previous disappointing visit due to the poor bar and waiting staff. We arrived and chose a table and two members of our party went to the bar to make our drink orders. After standing at the bar waiting to be served (no-one else waiting) the restaurant owner who was busy bottling up then spent 15 minutes ignoring and refusing to make eye contact with any of our party. A waitress also entered the bar area at one point and also ignored our waiting family members. I am surprised he has any restaurant at all with his total disregard for customers. We will definitely not be giving him any more chances and my advice to everyone is steer clear. There are many more restaurants on this island who are worthy of receiving your hard earned money! We decided that if he didn't want our business we were sure somewhere else would and our party left. Its such a shame that such a miserable man owns this restaurant in such an idyllic setting.
