I am not going to lie, I was scared to stay at this hotel because of the reviews. Glad I didn't judge them based on Yelp.
My Beau booked this hotel for a mini staycation in Baltimore. He did GOOD!
First, it is definitely high end! To me, it reminds me of a Ritz Carlton. There was a bellman, valet, and concierge. The rooms were elegant and I had no complaints. I did want to comment on the reviews about it looking out dated, some of the finest hotels are older.
I'm super picky with hotels and this one was splendid.
The room we got was looking directly at our restaurant for the evening. Such a classy look! Thanks to my Beau for requesting and paying for that extra touch! The view was everything and romantic.
Oh, and toiletries were Italian, bath and boudoir products by Poggesi.
Perfection!
Would definitely recommend!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jan 17, 2024
A decent hotel with a gorgeous view. They package themselves as a luxury hotel, but I didn't necessarily feel that way by way of service or accommodations.
First off, I woke up in the middle of the night and was alarmed the lights were not turning on. It's alarming enough to wake up on your first night in a different place and forgetting -- but the power not working was anxiety-inducing. With the power down, I couldn't call the front desk from the hotel phone. So I called with my cell, and no pick up. I decided to walk and take the stairs to talk to the front desk to see if it's an issue with my room or the hotel. At this point, my customer service brain would've gone to all the elevator floors and posted signs to avoid using if possible due to the outage, but that was not a thing.
When I got to the front desk, it sounded like the entire block was affected by an outage. So I made my way back to my room and slept, hoping it'll all be settled in the morning. When I woke up, still no power, and I had to start getting ready. All this to say, it was not a good first night at a luxury hotel.
The space, prime harbor location, and cleanliness are a plus, and so was the view of the harbor from my room. Stunning. But that's about it.
During my stay, I opted to go for a night swim at the indoor heated hotel pool, and I went a lot later than expected. The pool was decent and divided up for people who want to do laps and casual swimming. About 15 minutes before the pool closes, a staff person came in and used her outdoor voice to say that the pool was closing like a summer camp counselor or maybe a college dorm RA would give warnings. Again, not exactly the luxury experience I was imagining, but I appreciate the reminder. I also mentioned to that staff that there was MOLD growing on the ceiling above the jacuzzi.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eloy d.Washington, DC688May 10, 2024
"Ooh you got a great room" I was told at check-in. I was excited. I walked thru the double door entry of my room into a spacious foyer... My palatial room had a sitting area, king bed and two bay windows overlooking the inner harbor... it seemed spectacular at first. But it quickly made me feel like I happened upon an abandoned 70s porn set complete with a 8person hot tub and the faint smell of cigarette smoke and cologne from a distant past. The two black double cotton bathrobes were the perfect touch. So... this all made want a drink. I looked around for the expected bottle of Cristal champagne chilling but it was nowhere to be had. I picked up the phone to order room Service but it's not that kind of place. In fact there wasn't any food options other than a window in the lobby to buy sodas or chips. Meanwhile my room view looked across the inner harbor to an oasis far in the distance called the Harbor East luxury neighborhood which was busy with life, laughter, restaurants, boutiques, the 4 seasons Bygone rooftop bar, and beautiful and energetic people having fun. I got a sinking feeling I was in the wrong place. My advice... spend a little more $$ for your room somewhere else where the surrounding streets are not desolate of life or happiness. I will say, the two hidden gems are Facci Italian restaurant and Ramen Utsuke restaurant ext door... they're both amazing and delicious and I'd make the visit to this part of town just for that. PS the staff at the Royal Sonesta Baltimore are friendly, helpful and very professional. Thank you.

As much as I wanted so badly to fall madly in love with the Royal Sonesta, she left me longing for more. What presented as a luxury hotel, with amenities and comfort was a huge disappointment. The only reason I am granting the 3 stars is the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.
#1. The room AC just never got the room to a comfortable temperature. Set to 65 it was noisy and still only kept the room at around 69/70 leaving us tossing off the covers just to be somewhat comfortable.
Leading me to #2. The bed was one of the worst beds I ever slept on. Including dorm beds and futons. We have stayed at ratty Red Roofs off of 95 with better beds than this one. Again leaving us with a less than positive sleeping experience.
#3. For a luxury hotel I would expect some level of convenience. Vending machines, snacks at the front desk, a small store accessible most hours. The one and only vending machine in the fitness center was partially out of order (dual machine with drinks and snacks) and what was functioning only had bbq chips and protein bars. The coffee shop Formula Expresso was only open 7am-2pm and the Explores "restaurant" was only open 5pm-10pm but was mostly a bar. There were no breakfast options which is typically offered at most hotels.
#4 The restrooms throughout the hotel all seemed to need soaps refilled and the toilet I used on the first floor literally didn't flush so I had to manually flush it from the tank :/. Again, no soap to wash my hands after my plumbing debacle.
#5 We had the opportunity to visit the rooftop "garden" "patio". In definite need of an overhaul. Cleaning and repair. The tennis courts were partially pulled up and the grounds were in sad shape. They did have a racquet ball court and nice fitness center with postings for daily yoga. Which may have been nice if our stay was for a different purpose and longer.
So 3 stars for the nice view and a roof over my head and the smiling friendly staff we encountered but doubtful to return. Far to pricy for what we received.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 20, 2023
Me and my mom drove from Boston to Georgia about two weeks ago. We had to stop and get some rest during the drive so we booked a hotel stay at the Royal Sonesta. This hotel checked all the boxes. Initially we were not so sure that it would be the hotel we envisioned. To our surprise, this hotel was actually another hotel that was either bought out or just changed the name to Royal Sonesta. The hotel rooms were absolutely beautiful. The most comfortable beds and top tier bathrooms. The floors in the bathroom were like marble (maybe exaggerating but it looked like marble). I wanted to purchase a container of the shower gel they offered in each room. My mom told me to not ask because she would be embarrassed lol.
Also when you're there, be sure to stop by their coffee shop tucked away in the far corner of the lobby. The customer service was excellent. The barista was the sweetest person ever. She kept a smile on her face.
The only downside is that they only serve their buffet style food items on the weekend. We were there on a Thursday night Friday morning so we didn't get to experience the buffet.
The next time I'm in Baltimore I will definitely book a reservation at Royal Sonesta.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Stuart g.San Francisco, CA2922May 6, 2024
My shortest hotel stay ever. Walked into the dreary room to be greeted by the smell of vomit and banana air freshener. 30 mins later I left and spoke to the desk saying 'I don't want to cause a scene but I'm leaving' her response 'Sir, I'll check you out immediately' end scene ...

I stayed here on a work trip last month in June.
Great prime location, just right across from inner Harbor. Surrounded by tons of attractions. Finding the location is very discreet as we went thru a Porch like tunnel. The front of the hotel was very charming as we drove thru a Porte-cochere with a water fountain in the middle. Upon checking in you will see a grand staircase that swirls to the second floor with a beautiful chandelier that hangs in the middle of the staircase. My room was on the third floor with a view of a street neighborhood. Rooms were clean and spacious. Television was a bit challenging because instead of going thru a guide you had to press the numbers individually which they listed out the channels on a nightstand. In the morning you can go and grab coffee in a cafe that is attached and tucked away in the lobby . Pleasant experience and great prime location to inner harbor.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Stephanie And Daniel K.Essex, MD03Apr 29, 2024
I left the hotel on 4/29 stayed 2 night gave them my credit card for the $100 a night fee however when I checked on it Monday they are holding $507 dollars I already paid for the hotel so the only thing they should be holding is $200 but that is not what they did I am very upset about this I don't understand and when I called no one could tell me why it was doing this. They just have my money holding it for no reason and I am screwed because like I was prepared for $200 but not $500 so I did love this hotel but I will not be back because of this and no one will help me or explain why

We've stayed here before, and it seemed like a good enough hotel. This time, though, we discovered our toilet had stopped flushing after we had settled in for the night and started getting ready for bed. The maintenance man had to attempt to switch out the whole back of the toilet for some reason. He couldn't get it to work so we asked to switch to another room. All full, apparently. I would expect some kind of concern, apologetic demeanor, help finding another hotel, from the people behind the desk rather than just a shrug and "All I can do is refund your money." So we won't be back.

Walked into the Explorer Bar/Restaurant after check in because they sent me a text advertising fish taco special tonight. Sitting here in an almost empty bar and 45 minutes and still no food. Can't rate the food because never served but they must have issues with the chefs. Sitting here looking at other nearby options on my mobile device
