So nice to dine with Nick today at Midtowner! You can tell this is an upscale brunch/lunch type establishment. Thanks for your service.
We are a party of 5, traveling from Louisiana. Everybody hungry! And, the menu is amazing. Bae got a vegetable plate with greens, Mac and cheese, black eyed peas and fried okra. He says Mac and cheese is trash. Mommy and Dee shared breakfast. They got pancakes, grits, ham, sausage and eggs. Ma raved about the pancakes. Dee raved about the ham. Jen got the hamburger steak, squash and Lima beans with a cat head biscuit. Jen raved about the biscuit. I got the club sandwich with fries. Fries were terrible. But, When I say, that club sandwich, DELICIOUS! And, Nick recommended the honey mustard! This stuff here is Good! Yall already know, when Im happy and passing thru Hattiesburg, Mississippi, I shall return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauren A.Bristol, RI1417Mar 18, 2024
I am a visitor to Hattiesburg and this was my first time at this establishment. I was brought here by my friend. The host was great. Greeted us immediately and got us sat. Our server was overall good, it just took some time between the steps of service. The place did get busier after we were sat, so I assume that was a large part of the delay at times. I loved the ambiance of the place, you could see the history on the walls and the vibe was right. Clean and well lit, but not terribly noisy even with it being busy.
Now, to the food. The catfish with grits was sublime. Great crispy texture to the fish, creamy grits, well seasoned dish with a hint of heat. I give it a 9.5/10. I'm still thinking about this dish and we went there for breakfast yesterday.
The sweet potato pancake was also excellent. Texture was a smidgen too soft for me and I wish I got a bit more sweet potato flavor but this pancake is still an 8.5/10 for me. I had to force myself to stop eating it because I was full, but it tasted so good I wanted to keep going! The cinnamon glaze is the perfect complement to this dish.
I would fly down from RI just to eat here again. Fantastic gem in the Hub City!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Feb 17, 2024
Came here on a Saturday morning around 845am. There were several parties ahead of us, I believe we (party of 4) were either 5th or 6th in line. We waited less than 15 minutes. Id call that a win at a breakfast joint in a college town on a Saturday morning.
They brew local coffee from Grin Coffee and it was very good as has been mentioned in previous reviews.
Our server, Yasmin, did a great job keeping our coffees topped off and brining is some knives when we asked for them.
2 of us had short stack pancakes, 1 with whipped cream and 1 with whipped cream and strawberries. The other 2 had the real deal breakfast, 1 subbed a sweet potato pancake and I subbed sourdough toast because I don't like pancakes.
Everything came out pretty quickly and hot and correct. A little tip for you - pretty much anytime at a breakfast joint when i order eggs over easy they are never over easy, more like over medium. If you order over easy here, you will get over easy. I say this for those of you who may have a misconception of what over easy eggs are based on other restaurants.
Lots of historic photos all over the walls, also lots of Southern Miss stuff as well.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 13, 2024
This is the curest diner that we got to try this weekend. It was pretty busy but we seated quickly. They have an all day breakfast menu as well as lunch. I ordered the chicken and waffles which was really good. The service is very fast! I will definitely come back if I am ever in town

Yum yum to my tum tum. We came early on a Saturday. The wait wasn't bad. Probably 10 minutes. Our waitress was great. Very friendly. The food was delicious. I swapped out my pancake for the sweet potato pancake and that thing was delightful!! I stole a piece of sourdough toast from a table mate. Heck yeah! Gooood! Oh and the coffee is local - Grin, I think. Excellent coffee. Very smooth and delicious. Would definitely eat here again.

Favorite breakfast spot when visiting Hattiesburg. Real diner vibes and the breakfast is always on point. Cost effective and quick service.

This is my second time to eat here. Both times, it's been fantastic! You must try the bananas foster French toast! Wow!!! The omelets and cheese grits are so good! Thick bacon, cooked just right along with a cat head biscuit...you can't go wrong! The locally roasted Grin Coffee is very balanced.
The staff is friendly. Leilani was a tremendous server! The partial paneling walls and old photos take you back in time in this causal hometown atmosphere.
Don't miss this gem while in Hattiesburg!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Malinda P.Blue Island, IL372268Mar 16, 2024

The Midtowner is a really cool looking place in Mid Town Hattiesburg. The place looks like a retro diner. The service was great. But the food is not the greatest. I got the French toast breakfast. The toast was good but I think they could add more powder sugar and maybe some fruit? I've had French toast at other restaurants and they usually have at least fruit to go with it. I'm not a fan of the cheese grits, just bland. The corn tasted out of a can. The biscuit was pretty good and the fried okra. Chicken tenders were ok, nothing special about the fries. Not horrible food but nothing special. I think many go for the atmosphere.
