Why I'll go back: it's a fun vibe with great cocktails
You HAVE to order: can only speak to the drinks, but getting something with "smoke" always adds a little more excitement
Tony's Tip: absolutely make a reservation. While we were waiting to "meet the Mayor" we saw three groups try to walk up and be told it would be at least two hours.

Even if it's becoming more mainstream, I still love the idea of speakeasies, and the little song and dance to get in to "see" The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town was a fun twist. It's an interesting spot because the primary bar is nothing to look at really, though for us Americans who grew up in the 80's the name ("The Breakfast Club") obviously sucks you in. But to get into Scaredy Cat Town, you definitely should make an online reservation. They're not hard to lock down, but we tried to get something on Thursday for Saturday and they only had bar seats left. Totally fine for just the two of us.

When you walk in, you just tell them you're there to see the Mayor and within a few minutes, you are whisked through the door of an oddly placed refrigerator (yes, I've blown the surprise, but the "scaredy" cat is out of the bag by now anyway). The place is pretty much a dive, with an overabundance of random knick-knacks, signs, and what-not. Funky, funny, eclectic - you get it. But don't let that mislead your impression - it's a serious cocktail bar. They've got a wide range of original concoctions to choose from, and both the presentation and tastiness of our selections were excellent. The bartenders are friendly, and the music that night was essentially a playlist of one- and two-hit wonders from the 80's (again, right in our wheelhouse!). Totally fun, and a great way to start off our night! I wholeheartedly recommend that you schedule a meeting with the Mayor soon!

A basement speakeasy located under The Breakfast Club. A reservation is highly recommended. Once you enter the secret entrance, you will arrive at a small underground bar. I opted to sit by the bar to watch the bartenders perform their magic. Each drink comes with a unique decor! I enjoyed The Merchant. Would return to try other drinks in the future.

Such a great speakeasy. I love the vibe of the bar. It feels very 80s Stranger Things. The drinks were really great and affordable, which I was surprised by. Normally when you have these ultra-hip bars you lose out on great drinks.

The service was awesome. Our waitress made a point of consistently wandering around the tables to ensure we were able to call her over at a moment's notice.

I will definitely come back when in the area again!

I went to this bar in 2014 and I still talk about it to this day. And I back in london for a trip and I still haven't forgotten this gem. Probably the coolest bar I've ever been to, walking through a fridge to a speakeasy downstairs with a totally different vibe than upstairs. Any person that I know that goes to london HAS to come here.

I have to thank google gods for finding us this spot. We were early for dinner in the area and had about an hour to kill. My friend found this as a recommendation for cocktails, turns out it's a really cool speakeasy. You enter the bar through a speg fridge door! Amazing cocktails and really friendly bartenders. So glad we found this place. I'll be recommending it to everyone I know.

Loved the whole shtick. Drinks were amazing. The decor was perfect. The tables were intimate. The bartenders were nice and knowledgeable. Will come again. (Oh and you can also order food from the restaurant upstairs)

Well this certainly was an amazing experience! Can't say I have entered a bar through a fridge! Such a neat venue! Highly recommend! The service was the best we had in London during our week stay! Excellent staff and very neat venue! My only wish would be to increase their craft beer or increase there beer selection! Not a whole lot to chose from and there are so many great craft beer options out there than your reguLar old beer! Some darks would be great too! Thanks for an amazing speakeasy experience!

This is a really cool speakeasy, located inside a Breakfast Club. The "secret" door is their Smeg fridge! The inside is not very large, but with reservation, we had no issue getting a table. It was an early weekday evening, so they were not busy just yet.

We started off with Hangman's Daughter cocktail and Flower Power cocktail. They were well crafted, strong, and flavorful with great aroma. We enjoyed them both.

We were there for some food too, so we put in some plates to share. We got Chicken Nuggets, Disco Fries, and Nachos. Nuggets were juicy and tasty, fries and nachos were big in portion, packed with flavor. They disappeared off the plates quickly!

We moved onto House above Clouds cocktail and Sencha Siesta cocktail. House above Clouds was sweet and banana-y, great drink! Sencha Siesta was not as strong, almost like flavored water to me.

The staff here were really nice and friendly. They gave us nice recommendations on drinks. They not only had good drinks, but the food were great too. We had such fun time!

One thing to note: You should never depart via the fridge. Instead, you need to leave by the door on the left at the top of the stairs. This leads you to the bathroom upstairs, for Breakfast Club patrons. It said to "Act nonchalantly as if you've just had a pee."

Oh, one last thing, If your name is 'Garfield' you will receive one free drink upon valid proof of identity. How funny and awesome!

Sure, you could walk straight into any other bar, but what fun is that? Not only does The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town have a name that'll at least make you smirk (if not smile), but their entrance -- a giant white refrigerator that leads to an underground bar -- is the bee's knees. It felt like something out of a children's television show from the 80's where secret passages & teleportation were normal everyday occurrences. (Although I have to admit, I felt pretty silly giving the hostess of The Breakfast Club the passcode "I'm here to see the Mayor.")

After we got settled in & ordered a few cocktails from their menu, we decided to order Absinthe. One of the bartenders came over to our table & hung out for a spell; we talked about their varieties & the proper process of drinking it, & even the history of writers who created fascinating stories while hopped up on the Green Fairy. Needless to say, we received amazing service.

Other drinks we tried: their house shot called Wet Whiskers, Sleeper's Fizz with camomile-infused gin, & Swedish Midsummer made with elderflower cordial.

Spending a couple hours here was a real treat.

When it comes to speak easys or dive bars A lot of the time you just have to find the entrance on the street and that's that. Here you have to say the magic words to the hostess and only then are you whisked away through a secret door and taken downstairs into a hidden bar.

The downstairs bar was dimly lit giving a very moody but inviting vibe. Only so many people are allowed in at a time allowing for a more intimate and private moment. You don't feel rushed and you can tell the drinks are made with care. The signature shot was delicious and cheap which is always a win! The space is small but open and doesn't feel cramped at all.. all the bartenders and servers were super welcoming and inviting as well. When you leave you do so through an upstairs bathroom hallway, you are asked to not draw attention and to be casual when exiting like you didn't just come from a secret underground bar that the patrons totally have no idea about . Little details like this are silly but also awesome and make the whole thing feel more real and special.
