Q:
Do you cook with lard and deep fried burrito on lard?
A:
I believe they deep fry it in oil. If that indeed, is what you are asking.

An iconic local no-frills establishment with a long history serving their delicious deep fried bean and cheese burritos, Taco Treat is truly the last standing remnant of flavor memories that people from Arcadia and South Pasadena (there is no longer a South Pas location) grew up eating. Unfortunately, I was not one of those lucky children and had my very first Taco Treat experience yesterday night, but it was absolutely amazing and their burritos now live rent-free in my mind as a delicious core memory.
Service was nice and efficient, and we received our food after a 10-minute wait. Cash only establishment, so remember to bring some dollar bills. They have two tables with benches on the side if you want to eat there, and they're covered with fried tortilla bits and hot sauce stains, a lingering reminder of the many burritos that have been eaten there.
The bean and cheese burritos were fried to perfection--the flour tortilla on the outside develops a light shatteringly crisp shell that holds the hot and creamy refried beans and oozy cheese inside. It pairs well with their "hot sauce," which is definitely not spicy at all but has a nice acidity that adds to the mild flavor of the burrito. The fries were wonderfully crunchy and well-salted, and we managed to finish them all without any ketchup (forgot to ask for some) because they were really good. I can't wait for my next visit to Taco Treat because of the amazing food and I love that it is a local eatery with so much history! Maybe next time I'll try a different burrito but you definitely can't go wrong with the bean and cheese.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dec 4, 2023
I think they make a pretty good bean and cheese burrito but at the end of the day it's fast food with fast food quality. The taste reminded me a little bit of the microwave burritos I used to eat as a kid, but of course, it's much better and nicely fried and toasted in a non-overwhelming way. Not too greasy or salty - just right. Also it is skinny but still large enough to make me feel pretty full. The chili cheese fries were disappointing for me; I would recommend Jim's in Monrovia for that.
The reviews sort of hyped me up for it but overall I think a more accurate rating would be 3.25 stars. A little underneath a good sit-down restaurant, just a smidge above your McD. No frills, pay cash and sit in the outside benches. Also, the cashier was super friendly.
Some note: I didn't realize you don't need to order an extra hot sauce on the side; it comes with the burrito! (I ended up using just a little over one sauce cup for one burrito.)Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nov 17, 2023
I always drive by this place and everytime I have cash, I forget to stop by here, and every time I remember that I wanted to try, I don't have cash.
Finally, after a few years I had both time and cash, so I stopped by.
I never looked at the reviews of this place, i was just curious because there's always a line. I thought it was an authentic mexican joint that had cheap bean and cheese burritos, so when I went to order, I was expecting the typical simple bean and cheese burrito but what I got was a LONG but skinny DEEP FRIED THING! I ain't mad about it, but just know that's what you're getting if you're getting the burrito.
My first time I got a hamburger combo and the bean and cheese burrito.
The hamburger is run of the mill- it's fine. it does it's job and the fries do too.
BUT THE BEAN AND CHEESE BURRITO! I was very skeptical, but it was GOOD. The cheese-pull was great. The bean flavor was good, and it was fairly cheap. You get full from one even though it's small. Since it's deep fried, you'll feel full faster. I actually went the next day to get another one, and got the bean and cheese burrito and the beef burrito. I actually thought I ordered beef and cheese, but it was just beef.
Just stick with the bean and cheese! The hot sauce that came with it wasn't spicy at all, but it was tasty.
I think this is a great little spot especially if you just want a little snack/meal. They're fast, but it's not a fast food joint so you'll wait for about 7-10 minutes to get your meal.
Remember, it's cash only!Helpful 1Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 5, 2023
The bean and cheese burrito is narrow long and it's deep fried. It kind of reminds me of the old apple pies from McDonald's that kind of crispy outer texture. Not really a traditional bean and cheese burrito but it is tasty. The hard taco is cheap $2.75 And it's fully loaded with lettuce tomato cheese and diced onions which is unusual. The beef is ground beef not very flavorful but it's a good example of the kind of tacos you get in the old days I mean the 1970s. The young man taking my order was very nice and friendly. I think I'll be back one day.

This is a go to for their fried burritos. Hard time deciding on their bean and cheese burritos or their cheeseburger and fry combo. Both are delicious and I have not been disappointed as of yet.

Taco Treat, nestled in charming Arcadia, is a hidden gem that serves up delicious, straightforward comfort fast food. While I don't have the chance to indulge here frequently, I find myself daydreaming about their crunchy tacos quite often. These tacos are a testament to the beauty of simplicity, generously loaded with flavorful ground beef, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and a blanket of cheese. What sets them apart is their homemade taco sauce - it's so delectable that I could practically drink it!
I've also ventured to try other items on their menu, like the bean & cheese burritos, and they are indeed delightful. However, it's the memory of those crispy, satisfying tacos that keeps drawing me back. Just remember, this spot operates on a cash-only basis, so make sure to have some bills on hand!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 27, 2023
Great place to grab a bean and cheese burrito. The burrito are fried with a crispy flaky crust that's delicious. The service is good and the ambiance is cool. It's a small family owned business. Great prices and plenty of parking.

Been here a few times and it's always good! Today was a cheat day for me and it definitely fulfilled my cravings.
It's a small taco stand with the best fried burrito I've had. The food is fresh and hot! The service is pretty cool and I like how they have Monday and Tuesday specials for the burritos and tostadas.
The area is decent being located in Arcadia, and they have small tables to sit and eat your food. It's the variety that they have that's very good. They have taquitos, chilli cheese, onion rings, corn dogs, and taco salads plus more.
The food is just so delicious and perfect flavor! This will definitely cure a hangover or the best place to go to before drinking.
I will be back of course! The parking is easy and it's plenty of parking in the back. You gotta try these fried burritos it's so good!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - C1x J.Yorba Linda, CA80921218Aug 19, 2023
1. Their bean and cheese burrito: HOLY WOW...I don't normally eat bean and cheese burritos but DAYAM!!! This thing was FRESHLY FRIED, super cheesy, super flaky, and CRISPIER than heck!! Besides the hottie I hooked up with at Coachella this year, this Bean and cheese burrito is the DAMN BEST THING I ATE in 2023!!! I know, I sound horrible, sue me.

3. Parking: Dude...so much parking in the back
4. Cleanliness: Check for yourself! Newly painted EVERYTHING, Windows all the way around so there is complete transparency. LOOK AT MY PICTURES....A+ by ARCADIA HEALTH DEPARTMENT!!!
5. Prices: I would absolutely pay $6.00 PLUS $1.00 tip for this bean and cheese burrito in a heartbeat. They currently charge like $4.15! PLEASE TIP THESE AWESOME WORKERS!!!! Beautiful, sincere, and they simply know what's up! :)
6. The ONLY thing I really hate about this place is that they're 31 miles from my Yorba Linda home :( But what I can say is this, I WILL definitely be back every few weeks to fulfill my crispy, flaky, cheesy, burrito fix haaha, no lie :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Pat L.Pasadena, Los Angeles, CA061246Sep 18, 2023Updated review23 check-ins
So some quick things to mention beforehand are that I'm a vegetarian and I've only ever tried 2 things here. With that being said, I would say that I freaking love this place.
Definitely not what you'd think it is when you first drive by. Seeing the word "Taco" in the name associates itself with having particular kinds of meats for their tacos but you'd be wrong. It's all ground beef for their food and some pork. It's on a corner and parts of the building are kind of shabby and run down and it's the epitome of a mom and pop place. What initially caught my eye was seeing the "Bean Burrito & Bean Tostada" the side of the glass wall and that was enough for me to pull over and give it a try and I'm so glad I did.
The bean & cheese is so good. It's refried beans and cheese in a flour tortilla but what puts it over the top is that it's deep fried. Shockingly is not greasy despite being deep fried. It's pretty a hefty burrito and I was a little unprepared to how big it was. The cheese just oozes with every bite and remains so even at the very bottom. You need to pair it with the "Hot" sauce they have as it cuts through the heaviness. I think the general public wouldn't think of it as hot but it has a ton of flavor in it. I'd almost call it a tangy bbq sauce but it's the perfect accompaniment.
The bean tostada is just okay. Size wise it's a beast and quite a meal but flavor wise it just doesn't do it for me. There's 2 tostada shells on the bottom than and huge mound beans followed by a mound of shredded lettuce and a mound of shredded cheese. I think it's a bit bland in flavor and lacks saltiness despite the beans and cheese. It's just my preference but I don't like having cold cheese and cold lettuce on top of the warm beans. It just brings the whole thing down to a cold temperature. It's more like a taco salad than a bean tostada and perhaps that's what they're going for but it's not for me. I'd rather have melted cheese and I think if they could do that I'd enjoy it more.
Don't go in with any preconceived expectations and I think you'll enjoy the place. It's a very cheap and enjoyable meal.
