I wanted sushi in a place away from Times Square and chose the perfect spot! I sat at the bar and received star treatment. They made each sushi piece in front of me with pride. The pieces were unique to this location. I especially loved the salmon with tomato maki. They offered me complementary hot tea as well. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxing after a long travel day. I highly recommend this spot.

TLDR: Sushi Seki is a great sushi bar if you're in the Theater District. The omakase is a great way to try some more creative nigiri pieces. Definitely try the salmon and tomato piece, the tuna with tofu sauce and don't leave without the spicy scallop handroll.
We were fortunate to be able to served by Chef Seki himself. We've eaten at the UES Seki previously and I would say the omakase experience was more enjoyable here.
Chef was super friendly and gave us a nice tasting of modern style nigiri. Many of the pieces are dressed with different sauces but the sauces here really add a different flavor profile. Many of the newer omakase spots use a lot of heavy toppings and flavors but often they don't do much to add to the piece itself.
I can't remember all the different combinations but rather than topping nigiri with those wet truffle slices, the sauces he uses lend a welcome touch of acidity to balance out the natural fatty flavors of the fish.
We got to try a lot of different things other than the classic Seki salmon/tomato, tuna/tofu, etc. We finished with a seared piece of kama toro and the crowd pleaser, spicy scallop handroll.
If you're looking for quality omakase in this area, Sushi Seki is a good choice.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

What a great little place. It wasn't overly loud and the service was excellent. My husband is not a fan of sushi and there were several options for him. He had the miso cod. I had the tofu appetizer, edamame, the waygu skewer with truffle salt. All were absolutely excellent with the steak being the big winner. I also ordered pieces of salmon and egg sushi. Best I have ever eaten. I highly recommend and will be back when I'm back in town.

For something light and delicious Japanese fare but fast and efficient service, this place is a place to go. Though the prices are on the expensive side, the taste of their food made it worthwhile. Their sushi are fresh and didn't taste fish. Their udon soup is succulent and mouth watering. They have a cocktail called Ryo and it was sweet and divine. Don't remember what's actually in it. The restaurant also have a tasting menu for $125. We opted not since the place closes at 10:30pm and we got there late. Come early and enjoy the pleasant ambiance it exudes.

Fav sushi EVER. Like EVER. I've tried so many. But this place goes above and beyond. The staff. The ambiance. The FOOD OMG! So fresh. So delicious. Be sure to try the rock shrimp. The wagyu beef screwer ( it's a small Portion but worth it) and the seared tomato nigiri OMG. Thank me later.

Apr 4, 2023Previous reviewBest sushi place ever. I've been to a few here in NY but honestly I just keep coming back for the sautés salmon with garlic or something like that. But GET IT. Please get it!! They'll know what you're talking about.

Fantastic omakase. Extremely fresh scallop and Japanese shrimp from the onigiri were the highlights along with the fatty tuna. Steamed octopus with a delicious sauce was delectable too. Really everything was fantastic. My son ordered yaki tori and tempura udon and fully enjoyed both and also enjoyed a bite of everything from my omakase especially the wagyu skewer - like butter summer Friday night on the early side was not too busy and service was fantastic too. Green tea creme brûlée was a pleasant surprise too. Yuzu cocktail was refreshing and not super sweet and got me in a good mood really fast too. Overall a delightful experience and I cannot wait to come back again.

Had a pre theater dinner at this restaurant. Food was good, ambience was good and the waitstaff were good. They even asked if we had a theater show to get to and made sure we got our meals with plenty of time to relax and enjoy. I had the chicken yakitori appetizer which was beautifully cooked and had just the right amount of sauce, plus a green salad which was nicely done. Others in my group had sushi which they enjoyed and soba which was also good.

Stopped by here on accident after a dance class. I was so hungry and they have a pretty outdoor look that caught my eye. When I saw a reasonably priced sushi dinner I was sold! The sushi chef was Japanese, the fish was fresh honestly on par with what I ate when I lived In Japan!

Service can be hit or miss, but staff is very nice. It seems that the staff is not very experienced. The ambiance is nice without the loud music or dark lighting.
If you are more of a traditional sushi lover (i.e. love raw fish with sushi rice), do not order Seki style platter. It includes cooked fish and some other stuff I didn't care for.
For the similar price, you can find better and more fulfilling sushi elsewhere. Seki's Omakase doesn't have a price - it depends on the chef's selection which means you can be surprised at the very end... Again, you can enjoy far better Omakase elsewhere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
