I am a big fan of Souplanatation to go! This review is for their to-go process and what I received for service, and offerings.
This was the second time I tried to-go in...my lifetime and I was pleasantly reminded how awesome it was. My only gripe is: I wish the salad containers had at least one compartment or two to separate the diff salad offerings. It can get quite messy up in here! Also service.... was pretty good but I was standing at the cash register with no cashier for about a good two minutes. The manager eventually came to the register and someone jumped on to help.
The to-go process goes like this (there is also some signs to help you out where the trays and plates are , but ya know I'll add in some extra tips!)
For the soup + salad, pasta to-go:
1) You get a salad and a pint of soup. Grab a green to-go container and grab EITHER two small cups or ONE big one. These are for your soups. If you want one big giant one then you get one soup. I personally like two small quarts so I can diversify my soup palette :0
2) Go through the selection of salads....stack it on there!!! You do get a lid that is raised by about an inch so stack it up. Also since you will have leftovers, grab the stuff that will also be good for tomorrow most - such as tomatoes and vegetables, or anything not sauced. You can get side containers for sauces if you prefer.
3) Pay at the register. This is where you will get your brown bag and utensils to put all your stuff in , pastry bag (small paper bag) and pasta cup. Its about a little over $10, what a steal!
4) Get your soups, pastas and pastries. Again, stack it up in the pastry bag! Put all the flat stuff in first (pizza, foccacia bread) then the odd shaped stuff like muffins. Pastas - darn you only get one cup but you can still try two pastas if you don't mind mixing and matching. I put mac and cheese at the bottom and then my vegetable tomato rigatoni on top. Nice mixture.
5) Put everything in the bag. And off you go. You will definitely have leftovers if you do this right.
Please note: when I say stuff it, I don't mind really mean stay there for a while and try your best to play tetris and be so sneaky..... just utilize what you have accordingly and you'll be able to get a good dinner or two.
The quality of the food is on par, though on this occasion (hence the 4 stars), I bit into something that tasted rotten in the salad. Everything else was fresh and perfect.
P.S. Cream of mushroom soup the next day is NOT creamy.....as the oils are separated. Consider eating it all or trying something else to-go
Enjoy :)Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Sep 24, 2018
I really don't come here enough and every time I do, I always ask myself why I don't. They recently added a large variety of soups for the Fall menu and I was blown away. Everything was so hearty and delicious. Although some of the soups can be a bit salty, I just add extra ingredients (pepper, jalapeños, bacon bits, oyster crackers) to tone down the salt and make the soup mine!
The salad bar is always fire like usual but they did run out of lettuce to make some of their premixed salad favorites around 7PM on a Sunday.
The real hidden gem here are the blueberry muffins and cookie bars WOW AMAZING! They tasted so fresh and flavors were on point. I freaking love this place and can't wait to come back more regularly. I never knew a souplantation existed here.. super old looking but it is the same yummy souplantation I love!
Came here to grab lunch since I was craving salad and when you crave salad... souplantation is the best place to go for salad! From pre made salads to making your own salad.. this is the place.
This is a super small location so I'm not sure how it works when it's super busy. The layout is very tight and interesting. Looks very small compared to other souplantation locations I have visited.
Customer service is good. Seating is ok. If you come during non-rush hour, you'll be fine.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Mar 7, 2018
My first job was at Souplantation when I turned 16, but I only worked there for about a month LOL. I remember coming there once in a while back then, but it's been a really long time since I've eaten at one of their locations!
I came to check out their 40th anniversary, which lasted for four days last weekend. It was a family-fun celebration featuring balloon artists, face painting, and photo ops with Sweetie the Tomato. However, when I got here, only Sweetie the Tomato was there- no face painting or balloon artists. Maybe the other activities were available at certain times? I was encouraged to spin the wheel and won a small prize though.
Afterwards, we went inside to dine. You first grab a plate or two and fill it up with their salads. There are two lines featuring the same thing, which makes it a smoother process. Then you pay for your meal and grab the necessary utensils before being seated.
Since it's a buffet, they constantly have more food available when something runs out. There were 3 different types of pastas, muffins, lots flatbread, and plenty of soups to try. I was disappointed that the pastas and flatbread didn't have any meat options though. The only meat I could find were some bacon bits LOL.
For dessert, they had a special cake for the 40th anniversary, but it was just okay. I did like the frozen yogurt they had, which came with a variety of toppings and mini cake cones! On their website, it states that they change up their menu each month, but also keep customers' favorites items as well. I like that they offer healthy food options, but the food didn't fill me up, so I was still hungry afterwards.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - 1021205111117Jul 17, 2017
I came here for dinner with a friend and my daughter. As we got here, parking was small but we managed to park in a space.
This location seems smaller than what I'm used to. There were tables way in the back but managed to find the higher tables in the middle.
As you walk in, it starts at the salad bar which you can only get once. The other stuff such as soups, cheese bread, baked potato, muffins, etc. is all you can eat. They charge for drinks separately. I managed to get a mix on my salad with no dressing because I had lots of toppings to make it flavorful. I sampled cheese bread, Mac and cheese, chicken and rice soup, and a blueberry and poppy seed muffin, not pictured, and all were delicious. To drink I got the strawberry lemonade which I had three glasses of. I was so thirsty on this warm day. So refreshing. The plain lemonade was tart, and my daughter didn't care for it but she loved the muffins, Mac and cheese, cheese bread and her salad she created.
The guy immediately cleared off our table once he saw we were almost done. Great job of being efficient. Definitely a good place if you like salads and soups.Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 18Oh no 0 - Oct 12, 2019
Just yesterday 10/11/19, I was so excited to go to Souplantation for soup. Everything was business as usual: salad bar, chicken noodle soup and a baked potato. Oh & a lil ice cream cone for dessert.
However, I did notice something tasted weird with the chicken in the chicken noodle soup. I didn't pay heed to it at the time... I had two small servings of it. Dinner was fine and I left to have Friday fun.
The morning now was a disaster. I rolled in bed as my stomach was in pain. I had the runs and vomited in the morning. Something wasn't right. And it was probably the chicken in the soup or whatever else it was since Souplantation was my last meal.
Anyway, I think I'll steer clear of Souplantation for awhile. This was not a pleasant way to start the weekend...Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

I love buffets and I love souplantation. Souplantation specializes in soups and plants.
The salads are pretty fresh and tasty. Soup are very appetizing and has a great variety. They have some staple soups like chicken noodle soup and clam chowder, but they come out with seasonal favorites like cream of mushroom and such throughout the year. The salad is the same. Caesar is there year-round and they have different ones throughout the year.
They do have 3 types of pasta, usually mac and cheese, spaghetti and a penne pasta.
They serve stuffed baked potatoes, various muffins, garlic bread and pizza bread, fruits, pudding and ice cream. The bread used to be super good way back then like years ago... but nowadays it's not as good in my opinion. It's not as flavorful and not baked long enough.
They always have coupons, so make sure you sign up for their emails! Nowadays, it's running $8.99 lunch and $10.99 dinner. There's like no difference between lunch and dinner items. Only one I recognize is like a hot dessert they serve - chocolate lava cake.
Check this place out! Fast service, delicious food at an affordable price.
Parking is the worst part.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 28, 2019
I had been craving a good, hearty soup so what better place to go to than Souplantation! I enjoy coming here for their wide variety of seasonal soups and great value for healthier options. This is actually one of the only places I will eat a salad since I can customize it exactly how I like it. They also have freshly made pasta, pizza, and other baked goods that I just can't get enough of. Don't forget to check online for coupons since they typically offer 20% off!

This is the best Souplantation I've been to in San Diego! Everything is always fully stocked and very clean inside. We end up eating late dinners and this is the first one I've gone to where they keep everything stocked until closing. Everyone who works there works really hard and always have smiles on their faces.
Also, I don't know how this is possible but their Clam Chowder has WAY more clams than any other Souplantation I've been to.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 30, 2016
I have to say I was very pleased with the lunch I enjoyed at this Souplantation. Also, I believe it's one of the first that opened in San Diego.
I mostly came in for some of their terrific wide noodle freshly made chicken soup which did not disappoint. Also, since I was here, I certainly helped myself to some of their salads, flat breads, and baked regular potatoes and sweet potatoes.
The chicken had a very nice broth with a very good chicken flavor and good seasoning but easy on the sodium. The shredded chunks of chicken were large and tender and the wide pasta noodles were perfect. I added some chopped scallions and a dab of host sauce and it was all over. I think I had four serving of the same soup and I would do it all over again.
Both the regular baked and sweet potato were good, but they were a little over done. I did dress them up a bit. They were quite soft indeed. The smoked turkey and was good. The almonds and cranberries were a nice addition. They margarita flat bread was nice. I liked that it was thin so not to overfill me. Oh yes, I tried this dark sliced oat bread which was fantastic.
The ladies busing the tables were all very nice and the girl at the counter where you pay, certainly took her time but was friendly.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0
