Sonic Soccer

Great customer service. Would definitely consider enrolling if it wasn't for timing conflicts.

My daughter was enrolled in a session a few seasons ago at Sonic Soccer when she was 3.

The coaches for the session kept on changing, and were apathetic and just generally seemed bored and not interested in coaching.

The first coach taught the first few sessions, and he taught 3 year olds like one would teach high schoolers. He did not know how to interact with children, and so the children never really bonded with him or responded well. He was not inspiring or exciting. Then halfway through the season, he just disappeared.

Two other coaches came and subbed, and they were worse. They could not have looked more bored. They would set up drills for the children, and then not even watch them - but just chat with each other. There was a lot of dead time because they didn't even notice that the children had completed their drills.....so a lot of people just standing around. The children lost interest and just started playing with each other or wandering off the field.

At some point in the season, Coach Sonic himself came and subbed, and those sessions were great. He excited the children, and made them really want to play. He connected with them, and made soccer fun. But him coming to coach was inconsistent and sporadic. I think maybe out of all the sessions he came twice. Then it was back to the boring coaches who could care less.

After that, I pulled my daughter out of this one and joined another group that has really amazing coaches all the way around, who inspire the kids and really know how to interact with them and get them excited about soccer.

In summary, I think Coach Sonic is great, but they need to work on hiring better other coaches - or provide some training to them that include how to work with children.

Sonic Soccer is a great organization that focuses on developing kids soccer skills through the importance of fundamentals. The coaches create a great learning environment with positive attitudes, skills of their own, and focus on each individual child. Ranging in ages 3-10 years old, each class is centered on the skills for each age appropriate ability level. The owner, Coach Sonic and his gregarious team of coaches knows all of their kids names, and is eager to help with each students development. Growing up locally, and starting his soccer career here in Brooklyn, he has started up a wonderful organization to inspire the next generation of urban soccer players.

This is our son's first season with Sonic Soccer and we love it. The coaches really focus on developing the fundamental skills of soccer. Even with a small team, the coaches make each practice a lot of fun! Our 4.5 year old is loving it and is already, only after 3 classes, learning the importance of passing and working with his teammates. I really recommend Sonic Soccer!

My 7 year old son has done 2 summers with Sonic's Sports Academy and LOVES it. Both years he did 2 two-week sessions. The counselors are fantastic, the instruction is great but even more importantly, the camp is really, really fun.
