My husband and I took our Daughter to dinner here, she picked Skadi out to eat. It's a small city restaurant. It's an upscale restaurant, one of the best in Mammoth. We ordered two appetizers with our entree. It's near the Village so it's close to shops , restaurants etc
The food was outstanding, definitely recommend dining here. We had great service while we dined.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angela B.San Diego, CA65133146Feb 17, 2024
We didn't have reservations here planned but managed to get in at the last minute from calling the restaurant a couple times during our time in Mammoth. It seems to be a Scandinavian themed restaurant based on some of the menu items. The bread knife they provided during the bread service was a wooden knife hand carved by the head chef himself.
The food here was really outstanding. My husband wanted to try one of the more exotic appetizers so we opted for one that had shaved deer heart on a cracker topped with a sweet jam. He ordered the duck breast and I opted for a very simple dish, chicken breast but it came topped over porcini mushroom and spinach risotto with Parmesan sea foam. I've never had chicken breast that tender and flavorful and the risotto mix was so rich and delicious! The whole experience was very delightful! We will be back the next time we are in town!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 4, 2023
Make sure to make reservations in advance! I saw at least three parties get turned away because they couldn't accommodate them. Reservations are made by texting them but be assured it's legit.
It's so nice to have a unique fine dining option in Mammoth. The restaurant is a small, cozy venue with a ski lodge vibe. We grabbed a table, which was quieter and more private, but next time I think I'll try the counter view to see the kitchen action.
The food was well presented and very flavorful overall. Starting with apps, we tried the gravlax, which was on the smaller portion but tasted nice. The ahi tuna tartare is basically like sushi in a shareable form with a bunch of furikake on top but still really nice.
For mains, we had scallops and the venison medallions. The scallops were made perfectly, while the venison is good if you like gamier meats but it's still relatively tender for a lean meat.
The best dish or surprise in my opinion was actually the dessert. We wanted something lighter to end the meal so went with the gateau financier with lychee sorbet and this was so tasty. We shared this dish but I could honestly eat the whole thing on my own. It's super unique with hints of fresh fruit and the pineapple with mint was such a nice touch.
Overall, I highly recommend this place if you want to change up the pace with something a little more upscale yet approachable.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 1 - Mar 13, 2024
Learned about this place on Reddit and it was touted as "The best dining in the Sierras" so of course I had to try. It requires a reservation via text and was unable to reserve a table two weeks prior our trip to Mammoth so I didn't expect that we'd even get to try, but as the old adage says, "You never know if you don't try". So as we just unboarded chair 13 my wife says, "Use your charisma and get us a reservation." So i try to muster as much charisma in my fingers and fire off a text asking if they have anything within the next two days and to my surprise they said they're able to seat us at the "Throne" table for dinner which seats us side-by-side. It's properly named the "Throne" table because it allows us a view of the entire main dining area and kitchen, which is quite appropriate for the royalty that we are. Since I consider this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I wanted to try some of the uncommon offerings so we ordered the smoked duck heart as a starter. For our mains I ordered the duck breast and my wife ordered the chicken breast. I would have ordered the chicken but I thought that sounded too basic and didn't want to blow this opportunity, but to my surprise I enjoyed the chicken more than the duck. My wife claims that was the best chicken she's ever had. We finished with the lemon panna cotta. I think my absolute favorite though was the butter they offered with the bread. I want to know what kind of fat they use for the butter because it was so decadent. I think i rubbed it on every other part of my meal just so it wouldn't go to waste. I'm glad that I know Skadi exists and will attempt to get a reservation every time we're up in the Sierras.

My friends have been raving about Skadi, and I could not agree more. Now I understand why they always have to stop into Skadi. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the ambience is very welcoming like eating a home cooked meal, and the staff is absolutely the best! Chef Ian was definitely the cherry on top! He is such a pleasure to speak with, and his passion for eating great food and serving amazing food is just an absolutely pleasure. I loved everything I tried and left with a huge smile on my face and a happy belly. Can't go wrong here! Just make sure to make reservations!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Skadi this evening, and it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. Skadi is truly a gem, and its fusion of flavors and impeccable presentation left me in awe.
When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor was elegant and contemporary, creating the perfect ambiance for a memorable dining experience. The staff was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, providing exceptional service throughout the evening.
I was fortunate enough to secure a seat at the chef's counter, and it truly enhanced my dining experience. From this vantage point, I had the best view of the bustling kitchen, where the skilled chefs orchestrated their culinary magic. The cozy atmosphere of the counter added an extra layer of intimacy and excitement to the evening, allowing me to witness the meticulous craftsmanship behind each dish.
Let's talk about the food. Oh, the food! Every dish I tried was a masterpiece of culinary artistry. To start, I ordered the Sashimi of Japanese Hamachi with Green Tea Soba Noodles. The freshness of the fish was unparalleled, and the delicate flavors of the hamachi perfectly complemented the earthy notes of the green tea soba noodles. It was a delightful combination that awakened my taste buds.
Next, I savored the Canadian Duck Breast with Arctic Lingonberries, Juniper & Aquavit. The duck was cooked to perfection, boasting a crispy skin and tender, succulent meat. The tangy sweetness of the lingonberries added a burst of flavor, while the juniper and aquavit infused the dish with a unique Nordic twist. Each bite was a delightful symphony of tastes that left me craving for more.
Finally, I indulged in the Classic Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée for dessert. The dessert was flawlessly executed, with a perfectly caramelized sugar crust that cracked satisfyingly under my spoon. The velvety smooth vanilla custard beneath was rich, creamy, and heavenly. It was the ideal ending to a magnificent meal.
Chef Ian's attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the dining experience. From the artfully presented dishes to the exceptional flavor combinations, it is evident that the chefs here are true masters of their craft. The menu was thoughtfully curated, offering a variety of options to suit every palate.
Skadi is a culinary haven that surpasses expectations. The restaurant's dedication to culinary excellence, combined with its impeccable service and inviting ambiance, creates a dining experience that is second to none. I can't wait to return and explore more of their enticing menu.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2858617448Jan 17, 2024
I'm super happy that my husband booked this restaurant. It's probably the best meal I've had in a long time. Every single dish is well designed and executed, I can tell chef put a lot of efforts and study behind. We ordered 3 appetizers which are deer heart, mushroom crepe and today's special, which is like a gelatin mixed with duck, goose and pheasant, it's like a Russian-style ham I had before. Deer heart is the most impressive dish, the 4 layers are perfectly designed together to balance all the flavors in one bite. Mushroom crepe is super umami with the mushroom paste, slices and sauces all together. Jarlsberg cheese is so well to be the layers for mushrooms. Duck breasts are perfectly cooked, I love the German sauerkraut and raspberry sauce to garnish with it. The Swiss - German style dumplings are perfect to be the side. The dessert - Skadi's Chocolate Tastings, OMG, it's such a star to end the meal. All the chocolate desserts on that plate need to be treated seriously, because every single bite is so flavorful. There are so many things going on once you put it in your mouth. I can write a whole article about the foods here. But what you can do is just to book a reservation and come to try it out by yourself.

Quite a different concept for Mammoth, but very well thought out. Their wine list was carefully crafted and included many European wines. Their food is creative so don't be afraid to try some new things. We got a salmon appetizer and a mushroom crepe to begin with. Both were so delicious. I also ordered a creamy mushroom soup that was to die for. For mains, my husband got the duck. At first he was disappointed about the portion size, but it was so rich and flavorful that it filled him up. I got the steak and it was cooked perfectly. For the pescatarians, they had two fish options-salmon and scallops. I would love to see a vegetarian based dish created by the chef. I bet if chef created a vegetarian dish it would be out of this world!!! Service was good for fine dining and the chef walked around to all the tables to be personable with every one. The actual restaurant itself is tucked away near the Village. I think it was an old garage that they converted into a restaurant. The artwork and photos on the wall were interesting too! I think this place is worth trying if you'd like a break from the bar food that most of mammoth offers.
