The Scolari's over on Lemmon Drive with my go to place. When my kids were little, I just was very familiar with it. I never tried the grocery store across the street (smith's). When the Walmart superstore opened up near, Scolari's close down. I was lost for a bit. I do see that smiths had better deals for a large family, but I was just so used to Scolari's. Also I lived in a small town at the coast in California and all of the little towns had Scolari's.
I am amazed at how rundown this place is. I understand economics. Probably they don't make enough profit to keep this place up, but it's just sad that I remember the Scolari's on lemon. Parking lot and front of the store need a lot of work.
That being said, I had to go shopping after an eye appointment and pyramid Highway was closed off. So I went the back way to Lemmon Valley and stopped at the Scolari's. The service was friendly, they had a good sale on some beef and pork. Nothing to complain about the quality of the food or the service or the people.
Overall a pleasant visit.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Terri D.Sun Valley, NV264Nov 3, 2023
It's a true neighborhood grocery store. If you are looking for a super-market vibe and selection, you won't find it here. But, it's jammed packed with a lot of things you won't find anywhere else. They cater to the customers that they have and their community. It's my go to and I appreciate the people who know what customer service means.

This place needs a three. I have been going here for years and I still see the some of the same staff form over ten years ago. The staff there are very nice.
The unfortunate thing about this place is it is one of the few stores left in the Reno area:-(. I am just hoping that it stays open. The parking lot is great for parking in but watch out for any pot holes or dirt near the main road. Not sure if this is the stores parking lot area or not.
Scolari's is the only place I can find a specific ice cream. I know there area others out there close to the same but nothing like this particular one.
I recommend everyone needs to change me here to try the Sunnyvale brand of death by chocolate. Let's just say I did not care for chocolate until I tried this. So if you a chocolate lover this right up your ally!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Judith M.Sparks, NV24Dec 19, 2020
I've been using Scolari's for 20+ years and they always have the most pleasant employee's and good meat. I always buy my meat from them because it's great quality. Their produce is always fresh as well and I can usually find what I need.

I hate to say this but, this place is a dump. The Scolari's do nothing to update their properties. They never have. I shop here regularly to support local employees and to help keep the location open. We need a large grocery out here in the valley. I wish Raleys would have taken on this location when they bought the markets. My guess, it's so run down that a remodel would be cost prohibitive. This place has such potential. With a huge "dilapidated " parking lot, they could be doing all sorts of "pop up" stores, tent sales, barbecue, etc... But, they are in no way involved in community. I will continue to support solely for the dedicated employees they have.

The main reason to come to this store is because I only live near and I'm without a vehicle.
I don't think they have a clue that their store is is sitting in the middle of below poverty income. Why such high prices?? Why gouge the low income people who struggle?? There's a reason why this is one of I think two Scolari's that's not closing down or selling out, because #1 such big profit from gouging, #2 you pay your employees very little, #3 your the only local grocer that the locals can get to.
I really do like the friendly staff members.
I hope you would do more by giving back to them and us the public. I know your not beautifying or updating/upgrading the looks of the store either.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brooke W.Reno, NV1411Feb 15, 2021
my boyfriend went to scolaris to get a gallon of milk and the associate named Kelly (i believe she was an older lady) had told my boyfriend he didn't pay for it, after he had paid for the milk she told him he needed to repay ($10) for a GALLON OF MILK, mind you he had a receipt for the milk, he walks away with the milk and she comes up behind him and yanks the milk out of his hand & when he requested a manager she said no. worst employee ever.

I hate to say it but unfortunately Scolari's seems to be a dyeing breed. This is one of the only ones left that hasn't closed or announced that it is closing yet. People don't seem to mind driving a bit further to wally world or winco to save a few bucks.
I would probably never make this my go to grocery store but I personally wouldn't mind stopping in more often if the place didn't feel so dingy. Most of the cashiers are young and act like it, which is another thing that discourages me from grabbing an item I need on the way thru the valley.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Doug R.Sun Valley, NV18141Feb 19, 2016
The staff here is always friendly and helpfull.
But the prices are high and it is an obviously old (clean, but old) facility.
Don't expect a mega-mart type selection, as the facility is also somewhat small for a suburban grocery store.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Since my family moved to Sun Valley twenty years ago, this place has been the most convenient place to stop and quickly grab groceries. After becoming a financially independent adult, I've realized how overpriced things are here, even with the "discounts." I would honestly rather go to Walmart to buy food, and I really dislike Walmart.
Most of the employees are friendly, with the exception of a few who have worked there for as long as I can remember. Its always a guessing game of whether or not the cashier will smile and ask how you are. They make it a little more than obvious that they just want to get you out of the store as soon as possible, but then again, I never want to hang around there longer than I have to anyway.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information
