Q:
Do you have the Schweinshaxe? I guess the English name is like pork shank? I didn't find it on the menu on their website
A:
I don't think they do. I know Valter's does. It is about half a mile away on High, and is more authentic in general.
Mark K.Â1 year agoQ:
Do they take reservations?
A:
I believe they are first come first serve. They are a pretty casual place.

An awesome restaurant that takes you back to Germany with amazing food. The Potato salad is some of the best I have had. The Sausage sampler is a must. We wanted to get the stuffed cabbage as well but had no more room. The service was over the top good. They were very attentive. The restaurant's atmosphere took me back to the Germany of the 60's. A time warp of sorts. Go Go Go

Visited for lunch on a Wednesday just after opening. Already busy. GPS took us to the restaurant through small cobblestone streets that were small as alleyways. Very small parking area. Glad we grabbed a spot with our big truck. We are in town for a music festival at Crew Stadium but HAD to visit Schmitz Sausage Haus. Very old world traditional inside with staff in Dirndl or all black. We enjoyed a fine lunch while sharing a 32oz tankard of cider. I was dancing in my seat, I was so happy to there again.
Waitress was attentive. We cashed out and went to the takeout counter to get dessert for later and sausages for the grill while camping at the festival this week.
Choice place for a good Bavarian meal.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 72924May 14, 2024
The food here is so so good, and true authentic German meals. The pretzels are one of my favorite I have ever had because the mustard that comes with was amazing, and I like how they break up the pretzels here so it is easy to share!
The wiener schnitzel was just as good as some that I had in Germany and Austria and genuinely hit the spot! The German potato salad was honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal because this is the first time I have had it served hot other than in Germany and I have been craving it. Our service was fast and helpful as well.
This place is well worth the wait in line and I can't wait to go back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 11, 2024Updated review
I always stop here anytime I'm traveling through for a few decades now. It's a Germantown must for me. I brought my niece and nephew here for their first time today and they loved it. We even brought six cream puffs home to share with others. Dinner times can have a decent wait so use the Yelp app to get in line early. I love the candy store two houses down to shop while you wait. You can't go wrong with whatever you order.
Pass on the pretzel bites as they drop them in the fryer before serving. I just had hopes of a good fresh soft pretzel. But I'm being picky... Seriously you'll be happy with everything.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 23, 2018Previous reviewYou're not going to find a more unique experience. Of course the tourists are abound but still a fun and lively experience. I was by myself and sat at the bar. All my neighbors and bartender were friendly. It fits the whole German village neighborhood feeling. Hated to leave. One of a kind treats and pluses: homemade applesauce, pretzel bites (fried), beer flights, dessert pastries and homemade sausages.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
I have finally scratched eating at this German Village icon off the bucket list. You know a place is popular when they have their own merch.
I was hoping for some guys with accordions (nope), but we did get lederhosen, schnitzel and jumbo cream puffs! The sides were the star of the show and we tried them all. The warm red cabbage is incredible and the spaetzle is buttery and perfectly cooked. The chicken schnitzel was like a hockey puck - way too dry. Service was fantastic.
They also have a deli counter at the entrance where you can purchase sausages or sides to go.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Pretty good German fare and the service was, for the most part, very good. I ordered a sausage sampler, but to be honest, I didn't know what I was eating and nor did the server. They serve applesauce sprinkled with cinnamon and a sweet sort of kraft. The bread is serve hot and buttery, like a warm piece of toast.
The hostess wanted to seat me at the bar, and I said no. A small table would suffice. I also ordered a light German house lager as recommended by the bartender. The food was fresh and good. Very clean and extremely festive. Ticket time was about 10 minutes. German music piped in over the sound system. Heart of German Town. I'd say 3.5 stars: 4 for the food, 4 for cleanliness, 4 for ambience, 3 for service.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

When I was researching where to go in Columbus, OH I was surprised to see there was a "German Village."
Of course upon learning there was a German Village in Columbus I was not surprised to see the go-to place there was called Schmidt's Sausage Haus. Inside everything lived up to its German theme: there was festive music in the air and the entire staff was outfitted in outfits fit for a beir hall.
When one goes to a sausage haus, you have to try all of the sausages. Which also apparently is an option: you can get an "all-you-can-eat" sausage meal there. Instead, I got some Currywusrst and the Old World Sampler.
All of the sausages were perfectly charred from the grill. The Currywurst was so juicy and well-spiced, and the waffle fries were perfect for dipping with the sauce. For me, the winner was the Bahama Mama- the secret seasoning makes all the difference!
If you find yourself in Columbus' German Village, don't think- just go to Schmidt's Sausage Haus.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Seemingly very popular due to how busy they were. I can see why. The Bahama mama sausage was incredible. The spice level was very well balanced and very flavorful. Desserts were out of this world good. I couldn't decide so I ordered like 6 desserts to take with me. They were all delicious. My favorite was probably the coconut cream pie but they were all so good.

Great meal and hospitality! Sat at the bar & was greeted by the bartender Lorenzo. He was very amicable & attentive. Peeked at my neighbor's plate & decided to order the same, Weiner Schnitzel with waffle fries instead of cabbage. It also came with their potato salad which taste like it had sauerkraut mixed in it, not a big fan but I managed to put it down anyway. The Weiner Schnitzel was served with a mushroom gravy & lemon wedges to add a little citrus sprinkle. I finished my meal but had to take dessert for the road. I ordered the Chocolate Peanut Butter crème puff to go, I definitely will be back!
