There is no permanent collection here at the Schirn, which is great because you pretty much never know what you're going to get. Two big exhibits when I visited.
First off, the mirror in the outside lobby was very cool. I liked the infinity reflections which made for a great selfie and some fun images. Neat!
"Diorama" was thought provoking and different. It was neat think "Hey, I've seen this before" because the Mark Dion exhibit was also going on at the Boston Contemporary Art Museum that I saw last month.
The second exhibit was "Glanz Und Elend" (Splendor and Misery in the Weimar Republic). Political and social tensions during the years after the First World War. A little shocking, a little depressing, a lot interesting.
All told, well worth the admission. I'm glad I made this one of my art stops in Frankfurt!Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Mar 27, 2017
I hadn't heard of this place until I arrived in Frankfurt and was trying to find my way from the Romerplatz to the Dom by passing through the subway station and seeing advertisements proclaiming Kunst fur Alles all over the stairwell. Anyway, since I had a bit of time to kill, and this place was open late on one of the nights that I was here I decided to go and check it out. It seems to be more of an exhibition space than a gallery with permanent exhibits, and there were three exhibitions that I could see, and I decided to go for the comic exhibition, which was actually pretty cool. One of the great things about these galleries is that there is always something different on, and they also tend to be a little out of the ordinary, so the revisiting value tends to be pretty high.

One of the main art institutions in Frankfurt showcasing diverse exhibitions from a certain artist or labeled under a certain topic. Since it's an exhibition hall and not a museum, it shows artworks for a certain period of time without actually owning artworks.
The building is located in the city center and has been built during the 80's but still looks contemporary and modern because of its simple and minimalistic design. Descriptions of artworks and even the toilet signs are printed on white walls so they look like typographic art.
Exhibitions are well organized and range from mid-century paintings to contemporary installation arts and photography. It may be difficult to get to see an interesting exhibition while visiting the city but city residents can always choose to see what they are interested in.
Entrance fees are moderate with rebates for groups, students and seniors. Car parking during the day is difficult because of its central location but always possible at the Dom/Römer garage.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Thomas T.Frankfurt, Germany10115119Sep 29, 2016
How to review an art exhibition hall? Simple!
Permanent exhibition? No. No collection. No stock. So all is changing often and they have to beg for any item to be exposed here. And this is performed in an outstanding way. Many fabulous exhibitions have been composed over the years with item that have not been released before or never been relinquished to third parties. On my Top list: Miro, infinite jest, German PoP Art,
Great architecture. Superfriendly staff over many years. Cost free lockers. Superclean and pleasant appearance.
It is definitely a highlight in the German art scene and can compete world wide.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Riccardo B.Trieste, Italy164312Apr 1, 2016
Every time we visit Frankfurt we have to go to the Schirn! Everytime we go it's enjoyable. This time there was the Mirò Exhibition. It was well curated even if not the best i've seen.
Anyway, if you have the chance go here! And if you don't have the chance, create it because it definitely worth it.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Lulu_r…)Frankfurt, Germany86217May 10, 2011
Came to see the Surreale Dinge exhibition. Despite having a well curated exhibition once you entered the space, the stairs leading to it were a mistake. Trying to emulate the style of the surrealists without the skill or execution to pull it off made a mockery of the style. A good exhibition stands alone without the need to make a half hearted attempt to jazz it up.
Otherwise a very good museum with lockable cloakrooms for which there is no need to queue. I look forward to coming back for more exhibitions and getting a more favourable impression.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
