New chef? Curious whether anyone knows if they got a new chef fairly recently. I was enjoying the food a lot this year but the last time I went in July 2022 the beef kabob was completely different.

Came in for lunch. Reception/Server was very accommodating.... Gave us a free hummus & pita AND gave us the "to go" lunch price even though we were dining in.
Food was excellent. A nearby table was eating a meat dish and it smelled great.
They have belly dancing on Fri and Sat. Will have to come back.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 2, 2024
Seems to be a work in progress which is OK, avant gard is a great description. Hostess/waitress/bartender (Wendy) was very welcoming and kind, explaining the dishes as we're not familiar with.
Appetizer had many good unique flavors...tart, savory and fresh. Bread was hot.
Dumplings were very good and filling.
Lamb dish was excellent. Hot, flavorful and plenty. Lots of rice to complement and the salad had some wonderful surprises.
Ambiance...reminded me of a south Asian multipurpose restaurant with white tablecloths.
Short story, we'll be back. The uniqueness of the dishes more than justifies the prices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jamil P.Los Angeles, CA773511Apr 20, 2024
By Far Worst Possible restaurant to dine at. Don't waste your time or energy. I have been to several afghan restaurants myself being afghan, and this was a horrific experience. We came into an empty dining room. Not a soul. We asked if we could dine in and the very kind waiter said yes of course and welcomed us to sit anywhere. Besides his hospitality everything else was a disaster. We ordered Ashak that my wife was craving and regretted it for days. Cold stale and no flavor. All the food we ordered was missing any type of flavor. No energy put into this overpriced menu. The owners should be ashamed for charging the prices they do for the horrible quality they provide. Shameful business practice. People come to enjoy a nice meal and they pay for nothing. Food took over 45 minutes to come and after it did, we were never checked on again. We felt so unwelcome and like we shouldn't have been there. This place needs to be shut down and the building needs to be torn down to cleanse the property of this cursed business. We tried explaining our frustration but got nowhere. They didn't care about our feedback charged me and were glad we were leaving.
Whoever the owner is please know this feedback should open your eyes make you understand the customers are truly important and hopefully there will be major changes. I would like to see my afghan community supported and do well but the experience me, my wife' and my father experienced was just disrespectful.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Agustin A.Lakewood, CA2158Feb 15, 2024
I have mixed feelings about this place.
Is it a restaurant or a club?
The venue was clean and neatly kept. The tables and chairs were dressed like you might see at weddings or special events. There was a distinct little wet bar.
I didn't see any hookahs though.
I had never eaten here and have no idea If they are a chain. The hostess was very pleasant. There were two other small groups eating when we walked in. The music leaned on ethnic rhythms and fit the ambiance at the hands of a DJ.
That's where it was a little odd.
It was just a bit too loud for a comfortable dinner, but my wife and I were enjoying our own company. As the other patrons left, the music changed to more hip-hop and included some "F"-bombs in the music. Granted, there were no kids around, but I thought this was a classier restaurant. Could have been a one off for them but again...was my first time there.
I guess I should have considered that it is a hookah lounge and grille as stated in the name. Huh.
Anyway, music aside, the food was tasty. We ordered Samosas for an appetizer, a chicken plate and a beef plate for the meal. We enjoyed the food. Their side salad that came with the plates was simple and delicious.
Anyway, all was good until the bill came. There was a $20 charge for "DJ cover".
I wasn't going to have an argument over this...maybe I missed the fine print somewhere...but this is my reason for not coming back.
Good luck.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Marsha W.Encinitas, CA8213772May 6, 2024
Sitting traffic out we craved a gyros. I remembered this place that used to be pretty casual. They have done a remodel and it looks like a fancy event space. We had the baba ghanoush (11.99)and it was warm and fresh and the MOST delicious I have ever had. Really 10 stars. The Gyro meat was tender and delicious also. Very friendly service. Clean bathrooms. Dinner prices were high. 25-40. Gyros with fries $18 we left full and happy.

This place replaced Alborz, a Persian restaurant that was here before. It still holds events with DJs and parties too on weekends.
Alborz always had great vegetarian options. When this place was open I wasn't sure whether they did too. But the menu now makes clear that Gheimeh and another stew can be made vegetarian. It's about $22, but my gheimeh (lentils and preserved lemons in a yummy sauce, with delicious saffron rice and salad) was quite good. And the portion was big enough to split over two meals. Glad to know that this is here! If you're planning to dine in on a weekend, just make sure that it's a regular evening and not a party.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Bashir F.Riverside, CA0385Mar 28, 2024

I was performing there with a dance group so I invited my family and friends out to watch me. Their service was good about ordering food and receiving food. I got the boneless chicken and it was delicious. However, there were 2 waiters who took our orders and their system was seperate for some reason, making my dad have to pay 2 different times, they never brought us a printed receipt so we knew what we were actually paying for. Also, The one guy waiter didn't even know what the saffron salad included so I can order it...I asked for gingerale and the girl said it's only for mixed drinks or alcohol not for regular drinking...didn't know what that meant.
The service was a bit weird for a nice class restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Daniel R.Solana Beach, CA03Apr 12, 2024
Deserted. No music, as advertised . That's all I have to say about . Having to add more fluff makes we want to never do another review
