Ruby's and Roses is a must stop in the downtown Pleasanton area. It draws your eyes when driving down the street with its beautiful decorations. There are many photo opportunities and is a great restaurant to celebrate special occasions.
I had a reservation on a Friday evening and I was seated immediately. Our server was attentive and gave great recommendations for the drinks and plates offered.
The sweet nest was a delicious cocktail for those that enjoy sweeter drinks. The pineapple string candy was an eye catching garnish and was also tasty!
I ordered the crispy calamari, Parmesan truffle frites, and the lobster roll, which is a newer item. The crispy calamari was tasty but a bit on the spicier side and the plate was a bit overpowered by the red bell peppers. The truffle fries were good and I especially liked the aioli it came with for dipping. The fries portions were a bit small so I recommend getting multiple orders if you're with a larger group. The lobster roll's garlic aioli in the bun was delicious but the lobster meat was very chewy which made it harder to enjoy. The portion also appeared small although I did feel full after finishing it. It might not be the right plate for those looking for a larger plate. I appreciated that they offered a gluten free dessert option!
Overall, Ruby's and Roses is a beautiful restaurant that I absolutely recommend visiting!Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - 66180May 19, 2024
3 Stars to enjoy the ambiance and drinks, BUT not the most enjoyable first experience here. Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday.
Issues we encountered:
-We were seated at the only high top table near the bar, and the chairs were all very wobbly, felt very cheap, and unsafe.
-My friend, the birthday girl, ordered the Lemon Chicken Piccata, and the chicken came undercooked. They took it back and brought her out a new dish, but, the rest of the table was done eating so she had a couple bites and just decided to take it home. Was a little disappointed that they didn't even comp her a meal or a drink. I've been to enough high class restaurants where they'd do something for the inconvenience.
-Portions were a bit small
-Lastly, the bill. 1/2 the group put down cash, and 2 of us put cards. I, being the sober pregnant one with waitress experience, counted the cash twice, so I knew what should have been placed on the last card. When I got my card back, it was $20 more than what should have been added. At this point, I know I couldn't argue this because there's no way to prove how much cash was given at this point. So, paid the extra $20, but honestly it felt very shady given they already added 20% gratuity so they were getting full tip already.
Positives:
-Friendly staff
-We were checked on by our waiter & Manager a few times
-Nice decor, great for you "influencers" which I did see many having photo shoots in front of the roses backdrop.
-Good drinks, from what I heard from the group, I had a mocktail and it was good as well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Earlene C.East Bay, CA12410653615May 10, 2024
Come for the drinks and lovely ambiance! That's all. 5 stars for drinks.
The food was a miss for us, but in good company Ruby & Roses is a tres chic place to catch up and be out!
It was a Mommy day out and the 2 round of drinks we had during our visit made our day out oh so fun.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2084951852Apr 28, 20241 check-in
Hubby and I came here for date night on a Saturday night. I would recommend making a reservation. They ask for a credit card to hold the reservation online.
We sat outdoors and the ambiance was super nice. They also have heaters outside. The sun was starting to go down and they turned on the lights. When it's dark, I imagine it's even nicer. They had a cute carriage adorned w/flowers which made a nice photo op. It took quite a bit to get someone to bring us water which was a bit surprising considering the servers were out in full force attending the tables near us. So it felt like we were ignored for a bit but eventually we were brought water.
Our server Antonio was fantastic. He checked on us frequently and always asked us how everything was. We even had a chat w/him in Spanish. I think we got lucky w/the timing of our arrival, because just as about we were finishing w/dinner, a large party arrived inside that he was taking care of (we didn't know) which meant we would've seen less of him. We will certainly ask to be seated in his section the next time we come :)
DRINKS:
-Ruby Sangria (5/5)
-Timeless Old Fashioned (5/5) - the presentation was beautiful! How cool that it comes in a smokey box.
-Woodford Reserve (5/5) - Hubby asked Antonio if they could make a highball and delivered.
FOOD:
- Bone Marrow Carne Asada (4/5) - The meat amount was generous. I do wish though that it would've came as 2 pieces of bone marrow vs just the 1. I think normally when we've ordered bone marrow at other restaurants, it's 2 pieces. But perhaps here it's only the 1 b/c they top it with meat. W/that much meat, maybe a little more bread would be nice to complete the ratio.
-Mongolian Spiced Wings (5/5) - the dipping sauce was good and the wings were so tasty! def need an extra napkin
- Filet Wellington (5/5) - yummy but portion was a tad small.
-Chimichurri Lamb chops (5/5) - I was unsure how I wanted the lollipops cooked. Antonio recommended they be medium cooked so I went w/his recommendation. They were SO good! I've had lollipops at other places where they're over charred on the outside, it's just not pleasant to eat and hardly get any meat off of them. These were perfect. The pearl couscous was a nice compliment.
Overall a really nice spot for date night or special occasion. Service was great.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - May 12, 2024
Such a cute dinner spot! Lots of flowers and cute places to take photos. Indoor and outdoor are both clean and beautiful. Service was GREAT. They seated us quickly with our reservation and our waiter Tony was great! He had good advice on the popular dishes and what they offered and which cocktails were absolutely divine. The food came out fresh and was very delicious and cooked perfectly. I highly recommended this restaurant 10/10.

When I tell you this place is top tier!!! I haven't had service like this in years.
The staff were very friendly, our server was exceptional. During our lunch we dropped a knife. Before she could pick it up someone was at our table to provide a new one.
The food was superb and came out hot and delicious. They were super accommodating to any allergies.
Definitely a cute date spot or a place to come and have dinner with friends. The outside is set up for IG worthy pics.
I will definitely be backHelpful 3Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 8, 20241 check-in
Come for the beautiful decor and bar, be aware of the spotty service and food. I can't say I'd be back.
We came at 5:30 pm on a Sunday and the restaurant was over half empty.
We ordered Brussels sprouts, fries, short rib noodles, seafood pasta, and lamb.
Brussels sprouts: burnt and cooked on the same charred grill as their burgers and still not crispy. 2/5
Fries: the tiniest ever for $12 but the first one was good! Our second order was completely soggy. 3/5
Short rib noodles: 3/5. Cute presentation but it was regular ramen noodles and soy sauce.
Blackened salmon: 4/5 just so small
Seafood pasta: 5/5 so good! But we asked that they hold on the chili peppers for this and the short rib noodle dish. The waitress said the menu was wrong, it's my spicy, but she'd ask anyway.
They were both loaded with peppers so minus 1 star for service.
The waitress kindly brought two cakes for our bday people which was so nice!
Now here's where it gets super weird. We get our check and it's for the wrong table. The waitress says she had given ours to the other table but assured us that ours was $40 more and they already paid it, so we got lucky. We get to pay the smaller one.
She tells us she paid the difference from her own pocket.
Super confused and debating how much extra we should pay and whether we even have cash on us, the waitress brings our correct receipt to prove we're coming out ahead - but we're NOT. It was $6 difference but our check had a $19 item we never ordered....
She takes the receipt back so we can't look at it closely and all the red flags are extra clear.
I don't think anyone can be so bad at math. I think she lied so that we wouldn't flip out, but didn't want to actually correct the issue. Yet added a lie on top that she paid it out of pocket so that we'd tip an extra $40?
Not cool. Not coming back.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 4 - 7449902773Apr 5, 2024
Came here for drinks And dessert. I had the yuzu martini and we had the lava cake for dessert.
So so cocktail - average. Need a bit more aromatic and more nuanced flavor
The lava cake was a bit dry. If you get it, ask them to serve on a bigger plate without making a mess.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
