LOVE Recluse Coffee Bar & Roastery!

Make sure you strive to stop by when they do pop-ups, which is only on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) - they collaborate with other local businesses/bakeries, and their specialty menu gets sold out FAST!

This is a walk-up, and you kind of go in little alley next to the roastery; the staff here are SUPER friendly and welcoming - HEART!

      I tried:
+a cup of hot coffee with oat milk
      +the Cascara Lime Slushy
      +the Ginger Spiced Chai latte

My absolute favorite was the Cascara Lime Slushy - if you're a limeade fan, you need to check this drink out! Super cold, refreshing, and the right amount of tang!

We went a little later, so we missed out on the baked goods, but next time!

There are plenty of street parking in the area.

Check this local roastery out - you won't regret it!

You know this place is "coffee snob friendly" when it's only open for drinks on the weekends for several hours. It's also in the middle of an alley (pretty secluded) in Scott's Addition. My friends and I came at around 11:30 AM and there was a decent length line of eager people waiting to grab coffee and buy beans for the week. I heard there was a partnership with an ice cream truck the weekend before for affogatos, but sadly it wasn't here this past Saturday!

I got my go-to which is a cortado (espresso made with "Ethiopia - Mulish Natural" (tasting notes: raspberry, orange, lime) with oat milk and the espresso was very fruity and juicy! It's definitely a strong espresso flavor that was delicious and impressive. Sadly, not much lingering espresso after taste, but still very tasty!

Because of Yelp recommendations, my friends and I all got a "Black Walnut Maple Latte" each. I requested oat milk for mine (no extra charge, which is fantastic and rare!). It's a bit expensive ($5.50 for a 12 oz latte) but definitely a unique drink that I would buy when I come back. I'm not usually a latte person, but I was impressed by how delicious it was! Overall, it's not super sweet, which is what I prefer. The blend of flavors taste amazing together; I can pick out the subtle fruitiness of the espresso among the black walnut maple syrup. The oat milk also balances the drink well, and the lingering sweet after taste is delicious. There's not a strong espresso after taste, but that's OK because the drink is still amazing without it. I'm super glad I got this drink (my friends enjoyed it, too!). Only caveat is that I should have gotten a regular latte (not iced) since the ice melted pretty quickly, meaning the drink was kind of watery.

I also for a few bag of beans ($16.50-19 for one 10.5 oz bag unless it's a specialty) that I know will be delicious and of amazing quality. I'm not sure if they rotate their beans here but I'm excited to try the variety I got!

Overall, great place and I would recommend this local RVA roaster to any coffee snob in the area!

Recluse is my favorite coffee shop in Richmond. The espresso is incredible, the owners are kind, and their rotating pastries are to die for. What more could you possibly want?

Tip: Get your Sunday morning coffee, and then pick up a bag of beans for the rest of the week!

Cute pop up coffee bar only open two days a week with great ownership. The other days of the week are used for roasting. I ordered the regular coffee as well as a maple latte which was delicious especially with oat milk. Definitely will come back.

Such a fun hidden spot nestled right in Scott's addition! It's tucked right in an alley and had a cute walk-up window where you order. The coffee selection was on the smaller side but the quality was apparent. I tried their maple walnut latte with oat milk and it was creamy and delicious. You can tell these folks pay attention to what flavors pair well together. I do wish there was an option for a larger size as $5+ for such a small latte is a bit steep especially compared to other local coffee spots, but if you want a unique experience with one of a kind flavor options, I'd give it a try!

The cute little walk up alley window!

Jack and Amy are an awesome couple. I love finding places like this. My oldest daughter is one of those people who loves sweet coffee. She's less about coffee and more the stuff in it. Amy was super to direct her in a direction. The latte was one of the best ive ever had. Great folks making great coffee. Give it a try.

Stopped by last Sunday and I'm still floored by the warmth and kindness and shared knowledge (for my curious coffee questions) that Aimee shared with my husband and I. Incredible experience before our drive back home to FL. Quality lattes and espresso. And freshly roasted beans to take home. Definitely will be back next time we are in Richmond!

SUCH GOOD COFFEE!! I try to go as often as possible. I can't wait for them to be able to open up for indoor seating because the interior is adorable. And the owners are absolutely fantastic. They're always so kind and helpful. Please visit ASAP.
