Huge improvement today. Food court ambience. Carry your own tray. Tipping is really optional. Tuesday order 11:22 AM, received by 11:28 AM. I am convinced that it's a hit or miss here, depending on who's working the kitchen. Previous visits were much longer in wait time. Delicious classic Szechuan spicy w/sliced beef noodle soup. Super spicy or overly spicy. Very hot in temperature, but tasty ingredients are full here. It's a real spicy kicker during cold weather days. Only this Szechuan item stands out of all the three times I've visited. 4/5 rating for the Szechuan spicy bowl noodles. I just realized that the customizable options weren't as good tasting as their regular standard/recommended options. The vegetable cut ups were much larger in portion and size now. Prior, customizable options had very little vegetables and meats. Definitely huge improvement since my last visits. At least my order was done within 6 minutes now, much better than waiting more than 20-30 minutes during dine-in. Definitely be selective here. Menu can use some modifications too. This visit was more ideal after opening hour.

I arrived at the opening hour, 11:00 AM sharp Thursday, but they haven't opened or started up on time yet. By 11:10 AM, I was able to scan code and placed order online as the first customer. Mobile tablets/screens not powered on yet, but customers were looking around. Was checking on my order at front counter since I planned to dine-in today around 11:20 AM and finally got my order by 11:25 AM.
Ordered the Szechuan Green Peppercorns Soup Base with Yunnan Noodles. Added Beef, Mussels, Shrimp, Chinese Cabbage, Corn, and King Oyster Mushrooms. Total came out to $19.73 before taxes and tips, so final bill $23.93 (gave them 10% tips, but not required for food court items). Not sure where the thinly slices of beef comes from. It didn't taste like regular beef that most people are familiar with and meat portion wasn't much. Soup base and noodles were excellent. Great huge portions and flavors were more on the extremely mah-lat spicier side. Best to have a drink/beverage on the side. Shrimp unpeeled pieces were much larger in size than expected. Tasted great. Mussels surprised me. I was expecting shell on the mussels, but mussels were all without shells. Still tasted good/no sand. Chinese cabbage was thinly cut, mushrooms were thinly cut, and so was the corn on a cob thinly sliced. Looks like a lot for the super bowl size, but it's really not much. Noodles & soup were definitely over portions.
Not bad of a Yunnan Chinese hot pot noodle bowl place in the perfect food court environment, but I still have a 50%feeling about it. Lots of staff members working. Good people. Accepts credit cards. There are many better options here, but you can still give them a try. This place should work on delivering much faster foods for order, so customers don't have to wait over 10-15 minutes. By the way, I was not impressed when I saw the plastic spoon with the wooden disposable chopsticks. Soup was served very boiling hot, so it's not really a great idea to serve it with generic plastic spoon for dining in. Just my own opinion. Ok for takeouts, but not great for dining inside.
Overall, they're ok if you come hungry. I want to try the pickled soup base or tomato soup base next time. Portion size isn't huge. It's just the soup and noodle quantity that makes it very fulfilling for sure. Everything is thinly sliced. If they changed the bowl design/bowl type//bowl size, maybe food will present itself better. Most importantly, if they served better quality meats, that may be a bonus for them, but I'll understand that it's not easy to do business these days without cutting costs. It's a very convenient spot. - Oct 1, 2023
Yet more options or choices for a hot pot style soup place! My first time to try and it was a good experience. Price is decent and the soup tasted good (maybe a bit on the saltier side for mine, but that's okay, can ways add more water to dilute it out). Like that you can customize (pick-n-choose) your own add-ons or ingredients into your personalized bowl.

Love their rice noodles! Full of flavor and a good deal. Enough for 2 people to share one bowl.

If you want to eat watery instant ramen powder broth with frozen ingredients try Qingshi. I was so disappointed with the broth. The other ingredients are pretty much what you can get from 99 Ranch.
You'd be better off making your own Hot pot instead of what you get here. It will be a fraction of the price that tastes far better.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charmaine D.Portland, OR264265215Mar 13, 2022
This happens very very rarely. I went against all the 3 Yelp reviews and tried this yesterday because I had a large hankering for malatang and the closest one to me is Wild Ginger (Alameda, it's amazing).
Malatang establishments are a (hopefully) gradually increasing genre of food offering in the Bay Area so I'm determined to taste, support, and review.
Ordering: the lady who greeted me directed me to the self-order kiosk. There is English & Chinese menu available. The paper menu also helps. Wait time was approximately 15 min.
Portions: epic! I'm sorry, but portion size was the main complaint of prior reviews and I got so much it was enough for two meals!
Taste: authentic and delicious!! The fried tofu was delicious! Beef slices were thin and fatty. Loved the dried bean curd. The soft boiled egg is not runny (vs ramen eggs), but it has the golden yolk color.
Conclusion: I'm definitely hitting this again. Little Dipper right next door is $35+ for AYCE, and can really add up for groups. Here, I get what I would have ordered anyway, and still leave full for significantly less.
*IF I was super super hungry and wanted the AYCE I would do that instead, so this is not a replacement for that (just to be clear).Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Wenshy L.Grimmer, Fremont, CA722Mar 27, 2022
I love the place so much. The food is my taste, and the amount of food is huge. There are many choices in the soup base. My favorite is kimchi and pork tripe soup base. They also have the rice noodle soup which comes with some vegetables meat and yunnan rice noodle. The Szechuan spicy beef rice noodle is so good but really spicy loll. If you don't like soup, they also have the str-fried hot pot. Next time I will try that one.
Love it and will try more different tastesHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1
