We had a layover in Detroit for 3 hours and only available for a quick fix. We found PizzaPapalis Of Greektown on Yelp by accident. The reviews were great and we were eager to have deep dish pizza.

We visited at the time for late lunch so there were not many customers. The decor is outmoded in old school style but cozy. The staff was friendly and served us really quicksince we were super hungry.

We had a bowl of house salad and a deep dish pizza. The food was pretty decent with reasonable price especially the pizza, delicious and memorable. The salad was not really good and the portion was small.

We LOVE pizza. I mean, a lot. This was a very reasonably priced deep dish pizza pie. We had pepperoni, sausage and mushroom and the toppings were plentiful. We ordered a small, but that was so much pizza we only managed to eat half of it! The leftovers were even good a couple days later. We also had breadsticks - as if we were worried there wasn't going to be enough with just the pizza They were good, but a bit on the dry side. I don't know that I would pick them again.

Our bartender was great, I am sorry I cannot remember her name! She took great care of us - even though we are Patriots fans

      Delicious deep dish pizza!
Breadsticks with queso. Sure, it's an odd condiment for Italian style breadsticks - but it works!

I can understand why this place is so popular and if I liked deep dish pizza, I'd probably return.

Atmosphere: this establishment gets VERY packed so don't come when you're on a time crunch. It's a very large restaurant with ample seating both upstairs and downstairs. The service is "okay".

Food: On a packed day, which seems to be regularly, the pizza takes about 45min to cook. You get a LOT of pizza in the smallest sizes so don't overdo it. The pizza was good but I've had better. The minestrone soup was solid and the breadsticks weren't very good.

Was in Detroit for a few hours. eEveryone I know told me i had to get a deep dish pizza. I was not disappointed, this place is good. The pie was piping hot and delicious. It's not something I'm use to but it was different and enjoyable.

I haven't been to this place in years but I'm glad I stopped in tonight after a concert at Ford Field. This is one of the places that doesn't close at 11pm in Greektown so it's a good post concert, play, game or opera dining experience.

Back in the day we would get the deep dish pizzas from here on a regular basis and I'm happy to report that after all those years this place has not gone down in quality.

Instead of trying our old family order my guest and I decided to switch things up and try the spinach special, deep dish style, with mushrooms (you can add mushrooms to this pizza for no extra charge).

Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. She informed us that a deep dish would be a 45 min wait and without flinching we were like #bringonthewait. (When you've been dancing for hours at a concert and are hungry you just don't care about wait times). We waited in our comfy wooden booth on the right side of the establishment and people watched at the bar and passers by on the street through the window.

The wait seemed like a bit longer than 45min but the pizza was well worth it. We ordered a small deep dish and as you can see from the photos they don't skimp on the cheese I pulled out a slice and even though my arm was fully extended the cheese string didn't break.
The sauce was better than I remember it and you could really taste the basil in it, which I liked.

We were here on a Sat night so they included the 18% gratuity in the bill so there was no need to bust out the calculator.

All said our pizza pop in at Pizza Popalis (say that 10 times fast) came in at $22.36
It was a lot of pizza for two people so when I stop by next time I'll be sure to have more people in my party when ordering a pizza.

Was looking for something different and a calzone really sounded good. Was walking distance from my hotel so off I went.

Came in and was seated was weird as I found out later that the guy downstairs pawned me off to the upstairs area. It was just a weird situation but no matter. Service was ok during my time here.

Again, was looking forward to a good calzone. Started with a quick salad that was good. My calzone came out and it was a little lackluster. I had to ask for marinara as it wasn't provided when it originally came out. The calzone was ok. I was a little let down at how it came out.

I had high hopes based on the reviews.

My friends and I decided to rush down to have lunch here during our lunch break from work. We were not aware that the day we went was also the weekend of the Detroit Auto Show. Parking was a pain... but anyways. We made a pre-order via phone and went with a large order of the deep dish pizza Meat Eaters Deluxe. After arriving, we were promptly seated and hung out for ~55 minutes for the pizza to cook. We had no problem waiting since a deep dish pizza should take that much time to cook anyways. It was just our fault for utilizing a 1 hour lunch break, when we forgot to calculate in 55 minutes of pizza cooking time.

So pizza comes out, nice and hot, packed with cheese and delicious sausage, pepperoni, ham and all the good meats. The crush was also flaky, light, and crispy. I loved every bite of it without burning my mouth many times as I shoved down 2.5 slices, then ran out to the car and sped back to work, only to have an upset stomach for the evening.

All in all, great place for deep dish pizza. Deliciously packed and awesome crust. Nice staff, fair price. Will be back again, but when I'm not in a rush. :)

This place is the best! While I'm not from Detroit, anytime I'm in town I will ALWAYS come to Pizza Papalis. The deep-dish pizza is the best I've ever had... and I've tried a few. The facilities were nice. Staff was very accommodating, professional and friendly. I can't wait to return and try something new. #yummy

This place is a classic in Detroit, just like the deep dish pizza, which has been the same since 1986, but wait something has changed. I was recently invited to try something new at PizzaPapalis. Detroit Style pizza. It's pizza, no twisting my arm to try it, honestly I didn't know the term Detroit Style pizza, but that was going to change. It's located in the heart of Greektown, I went on a Thursday and with no games parking was quick and easy.
The event was held at the bar which was clean and had a nice atmosphere. In the middle of the room laid out on the counter was the Detroit Style pizza , bbq chicken , Greektown and hmmm, oops I forgot the name, anyway it had pepperoni and peppers. I may have forgotten the name, but the flavors, I remember those. The dough was thick but also very light. This is not Chicago pizza, this is lighter and has that deep dish crust. It was pointed out to me the cell structure of this dough is larger, thats what gives it the lightness. It also takes 4 days to make the dough. The tomato's, yeah selected from a special area in Italy. It was a great tasting hand crafted pizza. So I will absolutely be going back to try this pizza again. I love my food pictures and it was a little tough with 20 people in the room all standing around these 3 pizzas to just whip out the camera and start taking joe angle pictures, lol. So I'll be back with some better shots and another taste.

Who doesn't love this place?!?! This place is a staple to go to when people visit Detroit. Thin crust pizza to thick crust pizza. Amazing food and a full bar. This location is right in the middle of Greektown and has 2 floors. So it has plenty of room for parties and events.
We came here after a wedding rehearsal and had the room upstairs. They did a family style thing were they had a bunch of different pizzas out. It was so good!
Would recommend this place to everyone who come to Detroit.
