I'm still on my little fish and chips kick and decided to give this place on Auburn a try. It's not exactly right off the 80 freeway, you'll have to drive into town a little. Thank god for GPS! As you get into the "downtown" look for the big clock tower, the fish and chips place is just across the street. Parking looks to be street parking, so you might have to drive around a bit to find parking, especially on a busy weekend.
The shop is pleasant inside and I order a 3 piece fish and chips. It comes out all hot and too hot to handle with my bare hands. After cooling a little I take my first bite. Crisp on the outside and cooked perfect with white fish inside. It could use a little salt, but that's just me.
I liked the food here and the prices are about the same as the rest of the fish and chips places, but it's just not as convenient right off the freeway with a strip mall parking lot, but I guess that's part of the charm of downtown Auburn here. Good place to stop if you want to spend some time wandering around Auburn.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 9, 2024
We stopped by around 4pm on our way to grass valley since we need to charge our electric car and there are fast chargers within walking distance! Huge plus! It was pretty much empty minus one other party. Though the menu has lots of items to choose from, we ordered fish and chips (because how can you not when it's in the restaurants name!) and chowder. The fish was yummy! They have a lightness to them despite being fried. The fries were under seasoned so I used the table salt to give them some help lol. The chowder was average. Not a bad mealJust didn't stand out. The prices are very fair.

Good fish and chips. Probably the best we've had in this area. Moved from the coast, so we were used to going to fish markets on a wharf and eating there. They stood up well to our standards!

Visiting my brother. On way out I did my typical Yelp search and decided to try this place.
Clean with a lot of different decorations. Owner treated me and I ordered fish, scallops and chips. Food came out hot, crispy, not greasy and the right amount of batter. I keep finding cool old places in Auburn. I'll be back to Pelicans Roost!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - L C.San Francisco, CA501542Mar 30, 2024
Excellent fish and chips. Great service. Small family owners place with plenty of seating. Seriously blown away how good the fish and batter were. Big menu and things for non fish eaters too!!

We found this place on Yelp. Not wanting to eat at another fast food place on our way home from the mountains
It's was a gem. A throwback from the fifties, very clean and fun to see all the pictures of how Auburn looked back in the early days. The waitress was the owner, very friendly and attentive. The food came out quick and Hot!! All fried in a light tempura batter. We had cod, shrimp, zucchini and fries.
We would definitely stop in again on our way to and from the mountains. We even met the owners husband the cook! He made delicious food and had an amazing smile.. worth the short detour off 80,Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Josh O.Bothell, WA0115Feb 27, 2024
Ambiance is cozy, but the food was unfortunately a miss for me. Clam chowder was just okay, but the fish and chips were a big disappointment. Fries were almost unseasoned and the fish (cod) was *very* bland. I typically am all about fish & chips but I couldn't finish even half my first.

This place has amazing food! The service was so friendly too which of course is always a plus too. We went in and got their blooming onion & cheese sticks, which were great! no complaints on apps, but we all got either the shrimp & fish plate and a fried shrimp plate and it was some of the best fried fish and prawns we've had in a long time. 5 stars all around, can't wait to go back
