Stellar food and service on both of my visits
Seasonally updated menu means the food is made with excellent ingredients and it shows.
Everything from the bread and butter to the prickly pear cocktail to The house made ice creams are absolutely stellar.
Really enjoyed their malted vanilla ice cream and the parsnip cake.
Had never had knudi before but loved the texture and the flavor of the tomato sauce was outstandingHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Allegra L.New York, NY12376Dec 22, 2023
We just got to Catskills and looked
Up a place to eat for dinner. Came in as a walk in and sat in the tavern. The ambience is adorable. The complimentary bread was so good! My husband shared clam chowder which was very tasty. Generous portions of main entree. We got the pork shank and chicken and both were great. No knife
Needed for the pork shank. Don't skip on dessert: steamed pumpkin cake was tasty.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Annalee S.Philadelphia, PA666959Nov 26, 2023
Best ever, highlight of our trip to the Catskills and we will definitely be back. The vibe of this place is perfect, the exact place you'd love to find up a winding road in the middle of the forest.
We started with the squash soup, hummus and complementary warm bread and butter. All three were delicious.
For entrees we both got the chicken which was perfectly cooked and served with mashed sweet potatoes and perfectly roasted carrots. All the food was fresh and thoughtfully prepared.
For dessert, we went with the pumpkin cake which did not disappoint!
This is a must visit restaurant, thanks Peekamoose!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 29, 2023

I had come across the Peekamoose Restaurant & Tap Room while researching a getaway in the area. From what I could tell, it was THE destination restaurant in that rural area, and from the booked dining room on the evening we visited, I could see that was definitely the case. While the restaurant looked like a basic, yet large, house from the outside, it was like a spacious log cabin inside. The bar area and main dining room were beautiful, and there was also a large balcony for the summer months.
Our gracious server made sure to constantly check in with us, starting from our first few moments where I ordered a Blood Orange Margarita. The tart and potent cocktail included Gran Agave tequila, blood orange puree, Cointreau, and lime. I enjoyed my beverage with slices of the heavenly Onion Bread and chive butter they had provided.
For my main course, I opted for the Oven-Roasted Atlantic Tilefish, which I had been told was resembled a Snapper. It certainly had a similar mild flavor, but was meatier in texture. The fish was cooked perfectly, but could have used a bit more seasoning. The small filet was served with Dark Horse Farm golden beets, dill, and roasted potatoes, all over a celery root puree. My boyfriend had selected the Wood-Grilled Sirloin Steak, which had a flavorful char on it and was laying in a light smoked tomato butter. The meat was plated with roasted, RSK Farm fingerling potatoes and sautéed kale. I tried the kale and thought it could have been cooked more; it was too tough. He also got a side of Mashed Potatoes that he really liked.
The Peekamoose Restaurant & Tap Room was a drive from our hotel and on long, dark, and windy roads, but we thought it had been worth it for such a quality experience.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Mar 30, 2023
During our stay at The Roxbury, the Peekamoose was our final planned meal and I'm glad we closed out our trip here.
The venue itself is spellbinding. We asked our server about the various eye-catching fixtures and décor; she explained that the art pieces were by the owner of Acme Studios in the city. I'm not familiar with the venue, but to my untrained eye, there was plenty of visual stimulation while we awaiting our food and drink.
The surprising highlight of our dinner had to be the steamed parsnip cake dessert, served with a scoop of ice cream. It was described to us as a version of a carrot cake, but J and I both agreed it much more closely resembled a sticky toffee pudding in consistency and decadence. If you find yourself fortunate enough to encounter it on their menu, absolutely order it.
Our main was a bit of a mixed bag. We shared the wood grilled sirloin steak (after also starting with two appetizers). The portion was extremely generous and the kitchen was kind enough to pre-split the dish for us, which we always appreciate. The meat was done to a perfect medium rare, but I found my cut to be a bit unpleasantly gristly. Granted, our overall experience with the ambiance, service, and food was delightful -- this was the sole mild disappointment of my experience.
At the encouragement of our server, we took a stroll through the separate bar area on our way out and found it humming with activity. I would love to come back to dine in that space. The main dining room is grand and stately, but it'd be fun to check out a rowdier version of the Peekamoose another time.
All in all, this was hands down one of the best dinners we enjoyed in the Catskills and it'd make my short list for a repeat meal.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 18, 2023
Very popular restaurant for the area. What a gorgeous place! The décor is amazing and it's huge in there with multiple rooms, high ceilings, and outdoor seating. It looks like it was probably a converted farmhouse. Perfect for a date night, dinner with a larger group, special occasion, etc.
We shared the caramelized onion tart app which was definitely a standout. My fiancé had the mushroom risotto and loved it so much he literally cleaned his plate. It was perfectly portioned, any larger would have been too much. I had the pasta Bolognese which was good but nothing crazy. We shared the blackberry sorbet for dessert and it was perfect! The staff was extremely polite and professional. Even thought I wasn't blown away by my entree, I would still recommend and come back to try others!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 9, 2024Updated review
This time we ate in the main dining room and had a wonderful meal. Only complaint was the duck which arrived cold and wasn't the best. Other entries were perfect including the chopped salad, the Gnudi, wild mushroom risotto, arctic char, scallops and a wonderful steamed pumpkin desert!

For starters the mixed green salad was simply a container of supermarket mixed greens, no extras and a skimpy amount of good tasting dressing. The roasted beets were properly cooked but without extra character and the squash soup was fine if you like a fennel/anise flavor.
Main dishes were a mixed bag too. The wild mushroom risotto was nice risotto but the scarcity of mushrooms made the $30 dollar price a mystery. The vegetable casserole was presented poorly with only a beige color, mainly beans and bland spaghetti squash. The trout was delicious but small and served alone for a hefty price.
The ordering online was okay and the pick up was through a small take out window -- it all fit in one bag because the portions are small. I'm glad there is decent food in the area but it is lacking delight at a price too high for what is being served to go. - Jacob S.Brooklyn, NY5256Apr 13, 2024
Great experience (food and ambiance). Service was solid. Could tell the ingredients were all local

Absolutely wonderful experience at the Peekamoose. The waitress was kind and very attentive. She made suggestions on the food and let us sample a few drinks before we made our final decision. The drink selection was of mostly local selections, which was great. I got the burger which was farm fresh, bun made in house, other toppings were delightful. My fiancé got the chicken dish and she was blown away by how fresh it was. The atmosphere consisted of a deep earthy feel, similar to an old ski lodge, I'm talking this place was sweet!!!! Lots of wood, blended right into the theme of the mountains. I have to just touch on the deserts, all incredible, all homemade. We got the steamed parsnip cake, with salted caramel, and whipped cream. This will always be one of our spots again when we are visiting the Catskills. Thank you for such a great evening.

OMG! I have a dear friend who owns a small business in this area who absolutely raves about this restaurant so as you can imagine as I blew past this place in the morning on my way to my hike several miles away I just HAD to make my way back for dinner after my hike.
Gordon Ramsay would be so proud of this restaurant keeping their menus super simple and one page rather than providing an 8 page menu of frozen food. In my experience restaurants that do the one page menus almost always master those few dishes to absolute perfection and Peekamoose is no different.
This place is massive in size so they have ample seating even if you arrived with a large group. The ambience feels upscale but you most certainly can come with your family or disheveled as I had arrived after my long day of hiking in the woods. I was worried I'd be turned away because the place looked so nice I thought for sure I was underdressed but nope, I got seated without judgement.
The menu is a one pager and while I've consumed plenty of steak meals in the past I expected my steak presentation to come out super simple and fairly plain so I order a side order of fries. Not only did my steak come out with an absolutely beautiful presentation, it actually had small potatoes with them. So I didn't need the extra side of fries but ate what I could. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection with a stunningly amazing seer. I expected my steak to have some fat to it which I dislike but there was zero fat on my steak so that only amplified my joy as I licked the plate clean. Nothing is better than enjoying a fat free steak, well not "fat free" but no fat. You know what I mean. :o)
I think keeping the menu simple paid off because my meal was crafted to utter perfection!! My mouth was having a screaming orgasm, that's how amazing my meal was! Service and meal was 5 stars top notch! If I'm ever in the area again for some Catskill peaks I'll certainly consider stopping in again. The quality of the food is worth the price of admission!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
