    • Q:

After the new ownership, things certainly changed. Have they gone back to the excellent food and service they were known for?

      A:

Probably not. We were die hards for Oakland Grill for many years. This business was sold back then and the new owners actually told me they weren't going to change anything, but we know how that went. One slice in an order of toast, really? I'm sure… more

I've been coming to this place for at least 7 years and IMO they don't miss! They've changed management and switched up the menu a bit, but likely they didn't change anything about the breakfast, which is what I usually come for anyway. It's quality diner food at a decent price for the Bay Area and they're extremely consistent.

      I love it here.

Had to run into Oakland for a few hours, decided to stop for breakfast at this recommended establishment, the Oakland Grill. A few blocks from Jack London Square, the Oakland Grill is right in the middle of the downtown industrial food markets.

The service was mid, considering there were only two people in there besides me. I asked for a glass of water two times, got up and went to the counter after 20 minutes to ask for a glass of water and still didn't receive it. It wasn't until my food came and I asked once again for a glass of water and it finally came. 30 minutes later.

The food was mid. The scrambled eggs didn't have any flavor, but they were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were good, had a touch crema that was also good. The sausage patties were not homemade, but they were ok. The ambiance of the restaurant was old school, probably a popular place way back in the days. Unfortunately, this place fell short on customer service satisfaction and food followed behind.

Street Parking but, it's not hard to find. Restaurant located on the street corner, looks like an industrial area, but it's busy with dogs & people walking around every & of course it's probably because of Down Town Square
Super friendly service as soon as you walk in. Service with a smile & a great attitude, will keep you going back not only for the service but the food was really tasty w/there own yummy flavors. Wait for a party of 5 was no longer then 10mins (YAY) for a sat after noon.
They have upstairs seating, outside seating (minimal) & a lot of room inside & it gets pretty packed & stays busy.
Got seated & waited longer then we'd liked, but we looked down & our server was also the greeter & person taking payment, so we were patient until he came to take our order. Does not disappoint because service for the food was also pretty fast considering them being hella busy.
Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu, if we are ever in town.

After a few years away, I recently revisited the Oakland Grill, having moved out of the area. My journey took me back while spending time at Jack London Square, and I chose to stop by around 1:30 PM, post the usual weekend rush. Despite its considerable seating capacity, the place tends to be bustling during weekends, but we found the timing perfect for our visit. It appears the Grill has undergone some updates since my last visit, with a refreshed, clean, and interior catching my eye. Although creating my own omelette wasn't listed as an option on the menu, the accommodating staff made it happen for me. The food exceeded my memories of it, and the service was commendable.

It's a pretty good lil' local breakfast eatery here in Oakland. The waitress who I always have the good fortune of encountering has been there EIGHTEEN (!!!) years, and her dedication shows. They're one of the few spots that knows how to make my order perfectly, taking only a head nod as a description. They're also one of the few spots who understand what "well done" means in the realm of omelettes--perfectly browned without that pesky, weird runniness some breakfast spots (that shall not be named) are all about.

You may or may not have had the delicious Homemade Café in Berkeley (and I am not tryna plug one breakfast spot in my review of another breakfast spot, but I'm just a breakfast-y person and am doing this all for your benefit), but if you have you know about their sour cream and salsa accompaniment to their breakfast potatoes. While they may not offer fresh salsa, Oakland Grill definitely offers that dollop of sour cream for your 'taters on the side. Coupled with the extra avo I had in my omelette and the table-side Tapatío, it was a straight party, folks.

If you're in the area, it's definitely a worthwhile stop for some breakfast staples.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I've come here twice now and both times the customer service was on point, and honestly made the food taste a bit better as the atmosphere and experience itself was enjoyable.
Both times I've visited this restaurant, I ordered a crab omelette. I loved how the omelette came with real crab rather than the regular imitation crab. The crab was succulent and extremely flavorful. I ordered other things on the menu as well that were just okay in my opinion. I will definitely come back for the crab omelette alone and would recommend it to others. I don't believe another restaurant in Oakland can pull off a crab omelette quite like the grill.

First time in Oakland, after reading "elite yelper" John's saga on this place we decided to go and see for ourselves. Where John bounces back and forth from raving about this place and hating this place, we found ourselves pretty much in the middle. First thought is they're bumping all the early 2000s r&b and I'm here for it. Food was mixed, fries were decent but nothing to write home about, bacon was mixed, the one who loves bacon did not enjoy it cause it was bland but the one who hates bacon actually kinda liked it. French toast was simple, classic, good, Cesar salad with chicken was meh, dressing was just drizzled on top not mixed in and personally I don't want to toss my own salad so to speak. I do love a good mini croton though and the chicken on it was *chefs kiss*, and final last note, John your right, eggs were lukewarm.

Cool old school diner in Jack London Square next to the produce warehouses. I've been for breakfast a while back and never got around to writing a review but it was good. Yesterday I went for a burger and it was probably the best burger I've ever had. It was the Oakland Grill Burger and includes an egg, (didn't think I would like it, my son made me try and I LOVED it) avocado, fried onions, swiss cheese and chipotle mayo. This burger took several napkins..... so messy, but OMG so good.
The service was slow, but it was busy lunch time they seemed short handed. Parking can be sketchy over there. I parked on the street adjacent in front of a produce market. More eyes and business going on. Nothing fancy here, just good food!
