blew a tire on the way back from a church retreat in Tennessee, we are very close to home on the side of the highway with 18 people not a lot of room. we called for a state trooper at 1:30 waited on the side of the road because our spar did not fit so we had to get another. we sat there till 2:40 and no one showed up to put up flares or anything. We left around 3 still no officer. what a joke

Apparently the people who live 2 apartments down from me can't pay their electric bill. Their solution? Use a generator and put it INSIDE at night when it's still running.
Luckily, my other neighbor has some brains and heard it and called up about it. The troopers were kind enough to come over and test my apartment and explain what happened and check our carbon monoxide levels thoroughly which, as it turned out, were definitely not good. They were so cute and friendly as they sat down and chatted with us after they had the fire department come in and blow out the place with a fan to get our place back to normal. Awesome service and they stayed until everything was copasetic before they said goodnight.
Usually every time I've imagined hunky officers and their fire department buddies coming into my place at 11 at night things have ended a little differently, though.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Lisa S.Brattleboro, VT302024Sep 22, 2015Updated review
We asked the state police if we could leave our car in their virtually empty lot in a visitors space none the less because it's raining & our wipers stopped working. They were rude & nasty. They told us to keep going & drive the car like that.
Looser! We still have a 4 hour trip to go & he couldn't even be bothered to help us locate the nearest hotel .... What a shlep.....Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0May 16, 2015Previous reviewWe asked the state police if we could leave our car in their virtually empty lot in a visitors space none the less because it's raining & our wipers stopped working. During last weekend's snow storm/blizzard I was extremely depressed over the fact that the NJ Turnpike was not plowed and salted as I made my way north. I was driving overnight and hoped to get to 18W by 1am.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't make it to the exit until 4am. I took 80W and prayed that the exit would be clear enough for me to take the off-ramp exit. Again, luck wasn't on my side and I was stranded. There was a big rig at the the top of the ramp that was stuck in the snow.
I didn't want to spend the rest of the night sleeping on the off-ramp so I made a call to the local police. The dispatcher assured me that he would contact the State Troopers regarding the situation.
20 minutes later 2 cruisers showed up followed by a tow truck and a snow plow. AMAZING!!!!! The truck was pulled out in 10 minutes and I was home in 5. I couldn't believe how quickly they responded. I was truly amazed.
Thank you so much...Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Glenn H.Port Murray, NJ0202Jul 24, 2018
I drove a truck for over 28 years & every experience I encountered a State Trooper, was positive. The same thing in my personal vehicles too. I feel much safer knowing that we have such competent police officers. I, truly, thank them for their service.

While I am glad to hear that others have had a positive experience with the NJ State Police, my experience has been quite different.
I was stopped by (TPR S.L. Perez #7522) yesterday.
It was clear that she is a rookie and has not dealt with the public- that or she is on a major power trip to compensate for lack of job experience.
She did not tell me why she was stopping me, she began attacking me and asking me where I was going and where I was coming from.
I asked her politely why I was being pulled over and she looked at me as though I was crazy and said, "you are driving on a suspended license."
I live between the West Coast and NJ and received 1 $35 parking ticket before Christmas that I forgot to pay prior to the holidays.
I have a completely clean record aside from this 1 ticket.
She informed me that my car would be towed and that my license was suspended.
I asked her if my friend who lives 10 minutes away could come and drive my car for me so that it would not be towed. She refused and stated that she did not want to wait. However, we wound up waiting 30 minutes for the tow and the tow driver told me that she had repeatedly called him asking where he was.
I became very frustrated as she repeatedly attacked me stating that I have a NJ license (when I don't) according to her computer . Rookie mistake.
Her colleague came over and informed me that she had overlooked a commonly known fact that parking tickets for out of state drivers create a NJ drivers license #.
For a $35 parking ticket, I paid $675 to get my car out of the tow in Bernardsville, then go to the DMV in Hazlet and pay for the tow in Somerset. I understand that I should have paid the ticket but this "professional" was inhumane, lacked empathy and represented the WORST of the NJ state police.
TPR SL Perez (#7522)- I seriously hope that you receive retraining regarding serving the community and what it means to be a professional.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - L T.Old Bridge Township, NJ318598Jun 9, 2013
I know that police get alot of comments, but I have to say Kudos to this one officer who assisted me when my car broke down on the turnpike. He even checked my battery vs. Saying license registration and insurance!! I am positive there are many others too. Maybe they can work on reducing the $150 tow charge to go 3 miles. Lol.
