When craving for some light flavor vegetarian dish, always come here to buy a box of it. You can pick up to 4 different side dish. I feel healthy lol

Most of the time we order stir fried vermicelli, sweet and sour / salted pepper fish, salted pepper pork ( some times tastes bitter, not sure if too much tenderizer used? ), marinated pork belly with bean curd knots, tofu with minced pork, smoked chicken leg, walnut shrimp...Etc Side dish seaweed, bamboo shoot, tofu skin , gluten meat are tasty too! Order a box of side dish ( they allow you to mix few types of side cold dish in a big Togo box), go home and cook a pot of porridge and your meal is served.
Not recommend chicken dish as it has the heavy flavor of chicken nasty taste, we are used to eat organic chicken. - Apr 30, 20241 check-in
New China Foods has been here for a while. It is located in the strip mall next to Lion's Market and Shing's Hair Studio.
It has a steam table of prepared hot foods. They have a couple of freezers to pick up some frozen dumplings, etc. Also, a refrigerator that has cold smoked meats (beef shank, pig's tongue, beef tendon, etc), soy milk, tofu pudding, and other things.
The service is friendly and helpful.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 11416534460Dec 28, 2023
Not bad for to-go items. The pork intestines were too fatty for our liking though. The frozen pork buns aren't as good as other places. We also tried other cooked items like beancurd, pork skin in jelly, pork belly, and garlic pickled seaweed. These were good.

Love this place. Total hole in the wall but the food always tastes good and people (picky family members, friends) reliably eat it. No Unpleasant salt or msg hangover either (no matter how much you eat- trust me as an overindulg-er). In addition to the hot deli, they make food to order- we love a fried tofu dish with meat sauce, as well as the Taiwanese rice vermicelli dish!
Not a sit down to eat place. They sell a bunch of cook your own foods as well- the dumplings aren't the most fresh, and the fresh tofu is hit or miss - but when it's a hit, it's really good.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Yiwen M.San Jose, CA0216Dec 28, 2023
Looks like food court greasy food. But surprisingly the food tastes so good. Not too salty, remind me the dishes my grandma made. Yummy my yummy. Price is reasonable. My new favorite place. I shall try the frozen food next time.

*****Customer Experience During the COVID-19 Pandemic*****
Situated next to the Milpitas Lion Supermarket, New China Foods offers a wide array of freshly made soy products, smoked and braised meats, and cook to order food. They used to have a sit-down restaurant in San Ramon a decade or so ago and it was my family's go-to takeout spot. These days, they are left with this one and another location in Union City.
I came here on 08/22/2020 to get some takeout after running a few errands in the area. I walked in at around 4:30 pm and the staff was already busy fielding takeout orders. Some COVID-19 safety measures were implemented (social distancing, plexiglass shields etc). For the most part, customers did their best to respect every other's space. Staff members wore gloves and masks, but I did observe a couple of them wore them improperly. After a quick perusing of their menu, I ordered the following:
- #69 Sautéed Fish Fillet
- #54 Green Onion Beef
- #31 Sautéed Pork with Bamboo Shoots
- A small container of spicy pig's ear
The total was a little over $35 and I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I decided to go pick up some Chinese BBQ a few shops down. By the time I returned, my order was ready.
The sautéed fish fillet dish was okay. Pieces of white fish fillet were stir fried with bamboos shoots, carrots, celeries, and straw mushrooms. The fish was soft in texture and mild in taste. The assorted vegetables gave the dish a bit of crunch.
Green onion beef was made with both green and white onions and thinly sliced beef that was marinated prior. The beef was tender and delicious. The taste of the onions was really evident.
The pork with bamboo shoots dish was good. It was seasoned well. I love bamboo shoots so this was perfect for me.
If you like pig's ear, you have to try their version. They cut the ears into thick strips and marinated them with spicy chili oil and carrots (they used to put sliced garlic too). The textural contrast was funky in a good way and the spiciness wasn't overwhelming.
If you're not a Mandarin speaker, I'd suggest you get a to-go menu and figure out what you want before entering. That way, it will minimize your time being inside. The food here is not gourmet, but is what I call functional - quick, cheap, delicious, and lots of it. 4 solid stars.

For about $6.50 (tax included), you can get a lunch combo that has a main entree and two side dishes. The main entree is made fresh and you can ask them to make it more spicy if you want to. The side dishes include many tofu dishes, Chinese seaweed salad (they call it simmered seaweed), pigs ear etc. It is served with rice. They also have various noodle and chow fun dishes available.
For those of you who like soy milk, they make it fresh there and it's only $1.50 a pint! It's much better than the ones you get at your local supermarket. - Tony H.San Jose, CA02926Dec 23, 2021
I have known this place for years because I shop at Lion Supermarket next door from time to time but never really went inside to check it out. Since a new Planet Fitness gym opened in McCarthy Ranch, I have stopped in here to get lunch after the gym.
The bento box is a great option when you're in a hurry because there are prepared items ready on a buffet style steam table. Although the hot items aren't very hot after an hour or two of being made. The residual heat from the steam rice keeps them slightly warm. If you bring it home you can reheat it but I eat it as is. I'd reheat the soup though. During opening and lunch hour is when the soup will be hot because they put it in the to-go container in advance to speed things up.
They have a balance of cold and hot items, vegetarian and non-veg to choose from. Some days the trays have hot food in them, some days it's empty from the lunch hour (I come around 2pm) but I'm able to pick other items available. Pictures I have included show the food items I'll get if available.
There are many dishes to order from the kitchen if you don't like what you see on the steam table. I'll do that if I'm feeding my family but the bento box is perfect for myself.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Theresa H.San Jose, CA0121Apr 2, 2023
Bought a pork chop bento box and I can't believe they gave dry old and burnt uneatable meat to customer. Will never get this again!

This is the neighborhood hole in the wall cheap eats. I used to come here when I lived a block away. It was always between this place and the porridge place for my $8-10 lunch Chinese bento
Surprise the prices really have not changed compare to others. I stopped by this place after picking up my curbside cold food. Now, u guys understand why I stated the negatives of curbside with respect to Chinese dishes. Same price more food and hot... How can you compare. So I only buy non Asian stuff from curbside.
Back to this place. They got the cheapest smoked chicken and bento. It's cook to order. Mongolian beef with 2 sides or the smoked chicken and tons of other Chinese bento combination. If I want more variety then it's the porridge place. If I want chicken I come here
Today got me some cold noodles as it was 100F and the smoked giant drumsticks looks so delicious I got a couple of those chopped
End up with 2 orders of cold noodles $9ea and 2 drumsticks $4ea. Total damage with tax was 28.30.
Damn couldn't even finish one order of the cold noodles in one sitting. It's going to be lunch and dinner for one order... Talk about cost per servings savings
They also got smoked half duck for $13. Pork feet, liver, etc. All the Chinese stewed classics... Really have to come back....Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
