    About the Business

A pioneer of Australian craft beer, Mountain Goat still operates out of their Richmond brewery. The much-loved staples are available on tap as well as limited editions and brewery-only trials. A range of pizzas, including vegetarian and gluten free, are available in a very casual, fun setting. Join a free brewery tour every Wednesday night at 6.30pm. Some nights food trucks are invited around - keep an eye on the Goat Facebook page for upcoming events. Mountain Goat has been a long-time supporter of live and local music and the local community. They are dedicated to sustainable environmental practices and even have an organic beer available. The staff are rewarded for days they come to work via alternative ways than driving and you can be rewarded too - ride to Goat, show the bar staff your helmet and be thanked with a free pot of your choice. If you really love breweries, you can even hold a function here on Saturdays - weddings are a particular favourite.

A lovely space for craft brew with a great friendly knowledgeable staff.

All the beers are their own and all beers are worth a try plus they have some locally brewed editions that you won't see canned so it's totally worth it to come here and try some new/altered stuff rather than just having draft versions.

They have free brewery tours on Wednesdays 6:30pm, go for a ride!

Mountain Goat is the 1st brewery I have been to in Melbourne. This brewery is Richmond based, and entirely 100% independently owned. And this place left me with high expectations for any other one that I will come across.

Only open on Fridays and Wednesday's, I came here for one of their free brewery tours (6:30pm). Did I mention that they are free? Winning! We arrived early, and found a table. I knew exactly what I was coming here for; beer and pizza; such a beautiful combination. Taking advice from the bar-man, we ordered the pizza that had ham on it.

Now, because the tour was going to be starting soon, we realized that we wouldn't have had enough time to down our drinks and our pizza. The staff were so kind, and delayed putting our pizza into the oven until we finished our tour.

The tour was great! Very informative, you get to learn about their process, and how they go about beer the "goat way". The ham on the pizza was just a tiny bit too salty for my liking, but I won't hold that against them. I'll just self note it to myself to try something different the next time.

This place got crowded as the night progressed. We saw some bicyclists come in, and even saw some families here enjoying their pizza.

Side note: Their Steam Ale- it's organic!

I love this Brewery. Such a great place to hang out and enjoy drinks and pizza with friends.

My favourite pizzas are The Hussey and Fire in the Hole (without black olives, of course).

It's hiding a little in the neighborhood, but still a manageable walk/stumble to and from the train stop. Give the place a try and I'm sure you'll find a beer that you'll enjoy. Note that the hours are limited so plan ahead.

Great beer, great price, great atmosphere. What else could you want. They are only open Wed and Fri nights at 5pm, which is a bummer, but they are mostly a brewery. Get here early because it fills up fast and there is not a ton of seating. It is a little hard to get to unless you work around Richmond. Getting there are 5 on the dot is tricky. Trams from Flinders move at a snail's pace at that time of day and there are no trains nearby. However you arrange your transport, you will be happy once you get there.

They always have pizza on offer, which is pretty good but not great. Bear in mind, though that I am an American, so my pizza judgements might be different than yours. I like pizza that is distinctively pizza, not pizza that is a collection of various toppings supported by mildly soggy flat bread. Don't get me wrong, the pizza at Mountain Goat is above average for this kind of pizza. But, your mileage may vary.

The night I was there Meat Mother was also there serving food (Brisket & Pork sandwiches, wings). The wings were good and people seemed to enjoy the other food as well. I am interested to try the normal Meat Mother spot and try some of their food on their home turf.

The beer is probably the best you can get in Melbourne. The pale ale is good and the night I was there, they had a Japanese Cowboy IPA, which was also distinctive and delicious. The Spring Ale was also surprisingly good.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Mountain Goat beers. Melbourne-made and it was the first craft beer that converted this Melbourne girl into a beer lover. Steam Ale was the first beer I really started drinking for pleasure and opting for over wine and it's remained a bit of a favourite even as my tastes have expanded.

The brewery itself is in Richmond and open to the public for brewery tours, beer and pizza on Wednesday and Fridays, then private functions on Saturdays. If you're a beer fan or even a bit of a curious novice, get in early to catch one of their passionate brewery tours. They pack a ton of information into tour and it's not too long so you can get stuck into the beer drinking sooner rather than later.

The bar has all their regulars on tap, as well as featuring any new or limited edition beers. Great for trying something new every time.

I wasn't expecting much from the pizzas at the brewery, the beer being enough to bring people in droves...BUT it's actually really good! They rock a good range of toppings and they're all fresh and delicious. The pulled pork pizza was inhaled the quickest. Great match for their refreshing, highly sessionable beers.

Plenty of large tables around the place for groups, couches for closer chats - an all-round awesome spot for a catch up over beers. I would advise coming as early as possible though, as it does fill up fast and can get pretty noisy in the large open warehouse space. Not one for a quiet bevvy, but it's loads of fun and not so packed in that you can't move.

Good for: groups, beer geeks, beer novices, pizza, brewery tours, functions, casual bar hangouts.

Ever felt like having a beer after work within a brewery? Well if it's wednesday or friday here is your chance. On top of that they throw in a free brewery tour on wednesday at 6:30.

... and they make reasonable pizza as well

Mountain Goat changed the way I think about beer. I went on the brewery tour here a couple of years back and now I won't go near mass-produced lagers or preservative-laden piss.

They operate the tours on Wednesday afternoons (6.30pm) and they will open your eyes to a new way of being. The bar here is also open for tastings on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm. You have to do a full tasting here. You may be familiar with the two main beers they produce and sell through decent local pubs, but they have several others on offer here and some of them are simply incredible.

From time to time, they'll put one of their 'special' beers out as a limited-edition 'rare breed' longneck. The latest one was a coffee IPA and is pretty close to the best beer I've ever tasted.

Mountain Goat make their beer local and source most ingredients as local a possible. If you love beer and live 'round here, you gotta get down there. Period.

Let me start by saying ive been drinking mountain goat beer for a LONG time. It pains me to say that I only just visited their brewery. This should have happened a long time ago. But lets move on.

I visited the brewery during good beer week, for the launch of their Abbey Collaby III. I got there pretty early as I had heard it gets pretty busy. As I was walking along the street, I smelt the malt and hops steaming out of the vents and I knew I was going to love it here. Smells like beer! I walked into the brewery and first thing I could see were the fermenters in the brewhouse. Shiny tanks of silver containing delicious delicious beer. There were couches, tables, chairs and the place had such a nice atmosphere. The bar itself was quite large and had on display a tonne of beer boxes along top of the bar. It looked really good. There is a large open area which was lit by pretty fairly lights and the place was just really nice. It was warm, toasty and smelt like beer brewing.

I had a taste of a few of the beers on offer, which I hadn't had before and it pained me that I had to leave to go to another venue. The serve pizza which looks pretty delicious and suffice to say I will without a doubt be back. Really awesome space.

Even though Mountain Goat Brewery is a little bit out of the way, it still very popular when they open up the "Goat Bar" on Friday nights!

The space has a great atmosphere among the brewery machinery, with cool installations made out of slab boxes and fairy lights strewn throughout. They stock, of course, the well-loved Mountain Goat beers with their greatest hits on tap. There are also gourmet pizzas available for the peckish, an ideal beer food.

Get in quick if you're in a group, because the tables get snagged quickly.

I don't even know what to say...

Delicious beer? PERFECT $8 pizza? Friendly staff? Uber cool interior (complete with cafe lights, grungy couches, and plenty of gas heaters)? Mouth-watering grazing plate (including the most complex and delicious aged cheddar I've ever had the pleasure to consume)? Check, check, check, check, aaaaand check.

Oh-so-cool, great value for money, delicious food all-round. I heard these guys host wedding receptions... hmmmm...
