It is ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS that a company as large as this does not have a customer service where you can talk to a real person. When you call their "customer service" number you get a recording directing you to their website. I went that route the first time, when I was having trouble with a NEW radio. The gal that responded to my email was of no help...and did not seem to care to solve the problem. She just sent me a new radio...where I experienced the SAME problem that I wrote to her about the first time. It's so damn frustrating that I cannot talk to a real person and they want me to go back and forth with emails. I live in a small town of 600 ...where there are primarily mobile homes....Right smack in the middle of tornado alley. I have my 93 year old mother living with me. We have had 3 tornados within the last 10 years that went through and around us within a 5 mile radius. One of them whizzed past within a half a mile away. I have wasted my money on this company for the last time. I had their radio for 10 years and it worked great. Then one day it stopped working. The new one I bought would not pick up frequencies unless I walked it out to the middle of the lot 50 feet from the house. I have tried outdoor antennas, (purchased from midland) and numerous other things to get this radio to pick up frequencies. The replacement new one they sent, did the same thing. Looking for advice from them is useless. They do not care! I swear to you, I have advised my children that if I and my mother lose our lives to a tornado in the middle of the night, they are to sue Midland, letting this review be my testimony. Meanwhile, I am looking for a new company to purchase an alert radio from. Midland absolutely sucks!

      First to Review

Living in the northern end of what is known as "Tornado Alley," having a weather alert radio is an absolute must. Just last year, a swarm of deadly twisters struck Southern Lower Michigan, and nearby Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Many people were caught off-guard as the tornadoes struck after dark when they were sleeping. Those who had weather alert radios were very happy they had one to blast them out of bed at night, so we could have precious life-saving minutes to take shelter in the safest parts of our homes.

I have owned weather radios from various manufacturers for many years. I have used receivers made by Midland, Realistic, Regency, and Uniden. Of all of these brands, I have found that the ones manufactured by Midland work the best. Moreover, the newer radio receivers use SAME decoding technology, which allows you to set-up your unit so it will receive only the alerts for your area or county. This is great if you don't want to be awakened at 3:00 a.m. for a weather warning in a county far away from where you live.

There are over 1,000 NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio stations across the United States that transmit weather information 24/7, 365 days a year. Likewise, there is a similar network in Canada. These stations can activate specially designed weather alert radios to warn you of not only severe weather, but other emergencies in your area, such as chemical spills, and tsunami warnings.

I award Midland Consumer Radio five-stars all the way for their top quality products.

After purchasing two sets of great walkie-talkies I found out that the rechargeable battery packs were defective. They never even took a charge from day one and the company would not replace them without a receipt. It's a shame that the customer service is not better in this regard because their radios are usually great. Unfortunately I think this is the last Midland radio product I'll buy due to defective parts and the poor return policy.
