Staff is super friendly and will go above and beyond for you to make sure you get what you need!
Some of the complaints I've been reading are more corporate issues. Don't ding this wonderful team at Michael's!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - DeAnn W.Poynette, WI6615Nov 12, 2022

...messy...to the point of unsafe. Poor customer service, specifically management. Thankfully Hobby Lobby is next door.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Will B.Jacksonville, FL8641Nov 27, 2022
The customer service at this store is nonexistent. The cashiers have no idea what they're doing and they ended up charging me $25 more than what I should've been charged. I had to physically get the buy one get two free sign and show it to the employee so they would honor it instead of trying to charge me for two and give me one! I guess equity counts more than quality good job America.

Today is July 21, 2019 and I went in to pick up my custom framing to find 2 ahead of me and 1 worker. I asked if she could call someone to handle a pickup. Lady arrives trying to handle online pickups. She asked the lady to my left and she replied no. I explained I have a pickup - she asked for my ID. Thought that was weird but whatever.
SHE couldn't find it. Family rang. My cell I answered. Asked when I ordered it. I couldn't recall saying this I proffered that I was called today. She said no one calls. Well, they Called me. I let my family go. She says THANK. YOU.
I meant those periods after Thank and You.
I went on to ignore that tone explaining it's custom framing and it nwas ordered over 2 weeks ago. She said 2 weeks ago, we'd get rid of it. Ma'am not when I've prepaid and chose my custom framing.
It clicks now. Ohhhh, you said you have an online order so I was looking there.
Yall, I said I have an order. At any rate, it was the kick to stay focused on the west location or try hobby lobby then the local options.
So busy getting aeay, I forgot to go to penzeys east.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 4, 2019Previous reviewWent back today without realizing I've written a review to tell myself never shop here again.
Man, I couldn't recall why I was so fixated on going all the way to Michaels west. Now I see why. I paid for custom framing via dry mount/mat and not 1 coupon could be applied. Tf. I was hurt she didn't ask if I had any coupons to prompt me. Oh well. Believe it or not, several people were in today getting custom framing and I expected July 4th to be empty.
Either way, I'll pick up my paid order and only go to the west location. Today was convenient but no more. Floating frame 11×14 = $27, 11×20 & 16×20 = $29 geez Louise what's with the price jump and many frames were so picked over.Oct 25, 2012Previous reviewLarge Location.
One helpful employee... I think she was a manager.
As I waited for her a male employee passed me up FOUR (4) times.
As I looked for adhesive hearts to decorate the pumpkin. This is on the right hand side of the store. Then got directions to go to the Left hand side of the store for Iron on Letters (yes, they still sell such. I'm not old - yet, lol)
I noticed the same lanky, white male employee near me.
I went back to exchange the hearts for bigger hearts and whom do I see?
The same male employee. But, alas - I didn't know he was an employee at the time. Thought he was a shopper, too. Maybe he's trying to get my attention so he can flirt with me but my sorority sister is going on and on and on and on via this cell call that I'm getting elated the battery is dying. Not that I don't like her but I misplaced my earbuds and I don't know how people hold a phone to their heads as it hurts me. I think I need to see a Chiro and add more massage therapy time to correct my cell phone askewed neck problem.
See I rambled off there... You thought it was pointless, hugh? Nope because as long as it took me to write this and go off on a tangent... I LOOK UP AND THERE HE IS AGAIN! ummm, is he following me?
I haven't been followed, that I remember (as I'm sure it's happened other times but I never notice things like that. I could care less to label anything racial) since I was in 4th grade and my mother made me put back the jeans so we could leave Beall Lady because the man was following us expecting us to steal because apparently old black ladies and a nine or ten year old does just that.
Zip back to this Monday night issue and BAM: he finally asks if he could help me. I had no bag, no handcarts, no nothing. Why? because when I wnat to run in and out and ONLY GET THE 2-3 THINGS I SAID I WOULD THEN I DON'T GRAB ANYTHING EXTRA TO HELP ME SPEND MORE. I got 2 shirts, 1 pkg of iron on letters, two feathers for my 'fit, 1 pkg of Halloween stickers and the hearts. What is it about me that says: watch her she may steal?
Notice people I had no purse, no coat, nothing but those items; my phone upside my head and the wallet.
Then, as I checked out - boo yah~ he's at the register across from me checking out something small.
I reviewed this and maybe he wanted to flirt but didn't know how. I'm bothered he had no obvious signs of clothing to say he works at Michael's. Maybe Michael's has hired an undercover shopper to catch Christmas thieves. Maybe he doesn't see my kind often or at all, but as I reviewed this and talked it over with my mentor at our HH meeting - it appears that I was being followed.
If you've ever been to Michael's this is a big store. Big enough that he could have stayed busy without ever appearing on every aisle I perused. I don't know what's what but I do know - I won't return. I'll go to Michael's West. It is my highest hope for all things dear: he wasn't following me for any other reason but to hear our Acinine Sorority Phone Call. =) - Jon M.Milwaukee, WI657Aug 29, 2022
They have one part time person in the framing department that shows up for 3.5 hours a day?? Does anybody want to work anymore?? 6 weeks to get my stuff framed this place is a joke. Never recommending this place.

Michaels is my go to store for drawing and art supplies. I often use there 40% coupons religiously, without fail you'll see me there every sunday buy something.
This store can be very dangerous though. With everthing they have I've tried to convince myself that I can probably knit or scrapbook. Without fail a can't do neither.
This place has something for everyone or if you're not in the crafting mood just browse their dollar section.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Stacey L.Madison, WI208011853265Jun 28, 2016
In general I am a fan of the Michaels chain, but I prefer the westside location. Comparatively, this one seems a bit darker, more worn, and I swear the layout has changed at least a couple of different times in a few years.
Things are usually well-stocked and the staff is generally friendly. Sales are omnipresent and you can pretty much always find a coupon that will knock of at least 25%, and more often 40. Whether I'm crafting or shopping for party supplies for work, there's always something I didn't know I needed.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Sallie Jo C.Madison, WI145189239Nov 22, 2015
I pop in here on occasion because they have a lot of craft and holiday supplies. I don't do a ton of crafting, but they seem to have what I need when I need it, for the most part. I have also used their framing service, which is good and the staff are knowledgeable. Overall, the pricing is on the high side and service is very much lacking due to not having enough staff. For example, today they had 3 of 6 registers open and a HUGE line. I counted more than 40 people in the line. The people at the registers were very nice and accommodating. I felt badly for them, but was unhappy with management for not doing a better job staffing the store.

I usually find something here no matter what I need.
I'm most often looking for frames or prints, but also brushes, wire, flowers, seasonal decorations, storage, odds and ends, items for the porch.
This week I immediately found what I was looking for, on sale. A few days later they'd sold out, but I found something else I liked and got help from an attentive young lady who helped me avoid buying the wrong frame.
Now I know an easy way to distinguish between brands and will call about frame color before I get the next one.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Beth P.Princeton, WI01Jun 2, 2018
I shop at Michaels online frequently and in general am very happy with the merchandise I have purchased. This was my first time shopping at the east Madison location and I will not be back. I asked an associate for clarification about the "buy online and pick up in store" program. She was condescending and acted as if she had never heard such a stupid question before in her life. The woman at checkout was very distracted and needed prompting to complete my transaction. Overall, the store is nice and well stocked but the staff took any of the enjoyment of shopping in store out of the experience. I will probably shop online or at Wisconsin Craft Market from here on out.
