Stepping into Matsuhisa, the hype and ambiance whispered promises of an extraordinary sushi experience. Unfortunately, those promises fell short of reality.
While the staff was friendly and attentive, the food itself proved underwhelming. The sushi lacked the delicate precision and freshness I expect at this price point. Some pieces were overly chewy, others oddly bland. Even the signature dishes didn't quite live up to their reputation, feeling more ordinary than innovative.
The overall experience felt somewhat disjointed. While elements were individually fine, they didn't coalesce into a harmonious dining experience. The high price tag only amplified the disappointment.
Matsuhisa Beverly Hills holds an undeniable reputation, but in my case, it failed to deliver on its culinary promises. Perhaps it was an off night, but ultimately, the experience fell short of the expectations set by both price and prestige.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jeremy E.Oakland, CA132323May 8, 2024
Deeeeee-licious! Took my friend out to an appreciation dinner and he said, "it was the BEST sushi I've EVER HAD" so looks like I showed the right amount of gratitude. Everything was soooo fresh! Service was friendly, helpful and advised us during our entire experience. The Yuzu Margaritas were suspiciously addicting...so good we stayed just a little past close.
Matsuhisa won't let you down and best believe you will not leave with a frown .Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1868011890Mar 11, 2024
If you can afford to eat here, you need to come enjoy the excellent sushi and cooked dishes here. An unassuming restaurant considering it's Beverly Hills, with fast (though brusque) service and a very diverse menu. The elevated Japanese food you would get at Nobu (same owner) but in a much less pretentious space.
Every bite was super high quality from the perfectly crisped crispy rice and spicy tuna (best version of this dish I've ever had), the baked crab hand roll (ugly presentation but very tasty), nicely grilled A5 wagyu (get it with NO SAUCE, the miso did not work and I am so glad I asked for it on the side even if the server was skeptical, lol), yummy black miso cod, buttery uni donburi ($$$$$), and rock shrimp tempura that was a big hit.
I would recommend skipping the tempura as it is no better than your neighborhood Japanese spot and there are more fun things to try on the menu. The oysters are also a skip.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emil S.Los Angeles, CA129237Feb 18, 2024
The original NOBU restaurant.
What an incredible place.
EXTREMELY PRICY but the food is very flavorful.
My wife who I love more than anyone except my 2 sons G-D bless them, loves this place but oddly not for the sushi.
My wife doesn't even like sushi
I think the price for food is outrageously expensive but these are the things that are incredible.
Artichoke salad incredible
Spinach salad(same as artichoke but just with spinach)
Spicy tuna crispy rice is great but make sure they put the tuna on the rice.
Spicy miso soup is good. It's salt water with tofu and seaweed.
The eggplant miso is very under rated.
We get the corn tempura and my wife being picky, was very skeptical about this one but it was AMAZING. so we get 2 of these so we don't have to share.
The beef tepanyaki on a mushroom medley is amazing as well.
If your server is a tall Asian woman, you are lucky. She's great but the only problem with this place is sometimes they might rush you to get out so they can have a faster turn over.
I think that the service is quicker because people like being served quicker so I'm not opposed to quicker service. I actually prefer it because I can eat and get out asap
The restaurant inside is actually a very nice authentic feel to a sushi restaurant. It's a little cramped in there which makes it all the more fun.
I truly enjoyed this place and will continue to go back even though it cost one of my paychecks of 2 weeks of work.

Ugh, lord knows how much I love this place and crave their food. The fish is always so fresh and delicious. Everything is prepared beautifully, cut evenly and thin to perfection and the sauces are yummy. I love coming here, I love the menu and the staff is always so kind. One of the waiters once recommend the bento box for dessert and I was so confused what was going to come out and when I saw this beautiful chocolate lava cake I almost passed out. It was DELICIOUS. I wish the restaurant interior and outdoor seating was nicer especially for the price we're paying but regardless good sushi is worth it.

Why was this place so packed for a Thursday night ? Maybe because this is the OG spot or Nobu and what created the Nobu brand and culinary powerhouse.
This is the first original Nobu restaurant and the taste and flavors of the food prove it right. I always love sitting at the sushi bar when going out for sushi but they have both an inside and outdoors seating.
I started off with the red snapper and the chef was quick to remind me "no sauce" cause it would just kill the delicious butter taste of salt and snapper mixed into one melting in your mouth.
I followed that up with an uni shooter and half shell of oysters. Delicious. I continued with some rice crispy tuna twist, where they serve the rice on a stick and give you the side of tuna to put on top yourself. I finished that off with a seared tuna sushi and a crab hand roll. I washed all of this down with the matsuhisa martini which I was not a fan of, but hey, when in Rome. Gotta try the new stuff when you can.
All of it was delicious! This place clearly has a lot of regulars, obviously based on how busy they were and the chefs familiarity with their guests. It's a must try and you can't go wrong with any of the food they have on their extensive (and I mean extensive) diverse menu.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 3, 2023
chef Nobu Matsuhisa's first restaurant in Beverly Hills, Matsuhisa. We did the Omakase tasting (the $250 pp option comes with higher quality food items than the $200 option). The food was delicious and service was on par! The hosts were super helpful and kind while the servers were very attentive. The restaurant isn't loud and there's a side patio too.
The omakase tasting included several sashimi and sushi options, wagyu A5 beef with truffle butter, grilled toro, miso soup, caviar taco, and dessert. It was all delicious!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Nov 5, 2023
Came here for dinner by a referral. I've never even heard about this place or even seen it and I've been in this area for quite some time. Dinner was amazing
First - it was really busy and packed here. We had a reservation and waited about 10 min to be seated. So MAKE RESERVATIONS
second - they have indoor and outdoor dining. We were seated outdoor and it was still great
Third - the food was amazing! We ordered a lot of sushi and drinks and they were all delicious
Fourth - the servers and wait staff was on top of their game. Very accommodating and attentive. Made the experience smooth!
Definitely adding this place to my list of top sushi spotsHelpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Gabriela V.Placentia, CA64528May 11, 2024
Service was ok, not super attentive. We were seated in the outside which didn't feel as luxurious but that's ok. I personally didn't love that all sushi comes with wasabi but that's my own preference. The fish was very fresh, very good generous pieces. Drinks were also very good.

Nobu dishes and quality with a more lowkey ambiance. Photos are from takeout but have enjoyed going in-person as well a couple times and it never disappoints ! I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. It's casual. The food is excellent and consistent, always fresh. Takeout order: 2 squid pasta, 1 yellowtail scallion roll, 1 tuna asparagus roll, and 1 daily special roll :-)

Space is definitely limited and very busy. Had a very great menu and they are quick with getting food out but for some reason drinks took a long time to get. Had a variety of different dishes but my favorite was the black cod. Perfect cooked and delicious! Would consider trying again if im close by but wouldn't go out of my way. They have valet parking but also gets full and the street parking is also tough.
