My new favorite Italian spot!! Authentic, freshly made, and amazing service by 2 of the nicest ladies ever . Extremely jovial, down to earth, and made us feel like we were regulars.
Checked on us from time to time but not overbearing, made sure we had what we needed and super laid back. Never made us feel rushed.
I had Linguine with clams in red sauce. Fresh pasta. Fresh clams. Amazing flavor. My other half had the pork chop. Juicy, fresh, and delicious! For dessert we split the pistachio stuffed croissant; also made fresh to order.
The place isn't too big nor too small; perfect size. A bit in the intimate side. Played the best music too.
Definitely going back xo. See you soon!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paul C.Alexandria, NJ36131Mar 10, 2023
Old School Authenticity
We stopped in midweek and were thrilled with the feel of this this place. It reminded me of the restaurants of my youth, filled with locals who wandered the tables chatting with old friends. The menu was as comfortable as the surroundings. Parking was easy, they have a locked lot across the street. Give Luigi's a shot, you will not be disappointed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joe M.Toms River, NJ04Mar 17, 2024

I brought a date to the north end of Newark where I grew up boasting about my Italian heritage and a small restaurant "gem" Luigi's Albeit it was more than 5 years since I had been back to the neighborhood. I was so embarrassed by the food quality.
I had known the restaurant for homemade specialties. My date was in the mood for pasta and ordered the ravioli they were tough and dry and the sauce was tart under cooked. When I asked I found none of the pasta is homemade anymore. Really the worse frozen ravioli I had tasted.
I had the chicken savioe. Disappointing as well. The chicken was not tender and was in a thick brown sauce bitter nothing like stretch's chicken Savoy from the Belmont tavern
The food quality has changed greatly sorry to say I can't recommend what was once a home made food experience
Did I mention our pitcher of water had a big dead fly in it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Alexander c.Manhattan, New York, NY046Mar 31, 2023
It's hard not to notice that you're business has flies all over water jars from the 90s also, the water fountain is attracting bugs and flies. If you look on the front window seal, there's flies everywhere and dead on the floor. That is the most disgusting thing you can have in a restaurant here's a video and pictures.

From what I've eaten here it has been good. I don't think it's anything special that I can remember, but it has been a while. I do know that everything is à la carte. If you order a dinner, that's all you get. No salad or bread at least in the to go delivery. in the restaurant, I think you may get some bread with the olive oil. I can also say their prices are higher than most other Italian restaurants that I frequent. And those other Italian restaurants do give you a salad and bread with your delivery order dinner.

I love Italian food and so does my husband. He wanted pasta and it was Friday, which means I wasn't cooking lol
I've been searching for genuine Italian food close by. By golly, I found what I was looking for! True, authentic Italian cuisine. It's BYOB which we wish we had known earlier, but, we were saved by a near by liquor store.
We started with calamari, which was fresh and delicious. Not that frozen stuff other place push out. A huge difference in quality and taste was present. They served us a pitcher of ice and glasses for our wine. Fresh french bread with a high quality olive oil for dipping. The oil was so tasty I wanted to drink it!
My husband ordered chicken parmigiana and I ordered chicken francese. On the menu, they only had veal francese but had no issue making mine chicken. I just can't do veal. It does state on the menu if you don't see it, ask for it. I love that they encourage that. The ladies were attentive. This place was small, dark and cozy. Not really romantic, but genuine and authentic in its vibe.
Hubby's chicken parm was amazing. The portion was huge (3 cutlets) and my chicken francese was equally portioned as well. We were told we couldn't order fettuccine as a side which was disappointing, but, we could do linguine which is only slightly thinner. Okay, fine, we settled. The red sauce was chunky, well, seasoned. My meal was good not great. I can make chicken francese myself and I'm an excellent cook, so I'm a tough critic.
For dessert we had a pistachio copra and a nutella tasting tort I forgot the name of. Caramel cappuccino and an espresso to top it off. The pistachio copra was delicious and the tort was good but just one note. The drinks were made well and were comforting. I picked Luigis out of 5 other restaurants I had in mind. I don't regret it, we will be back.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Matt S.Montclair, NJ0202Feb 11, 2023Updated review
It's tough to beat this place ....I shy away from the sauces and go with the specials like veal cutlet with Bruschetta or Cod Fish Luigi's which is the sliced potato and hot peppers. Any dishes with the "Luigi" potato and hot cherry pepper is amazing. They have amazing salads like the house and string bean. A few doors down from Bellemont Tavern and love that Luigi's is BYOB
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 1, 2022Previous reviewLove this Italian restaurant and I highly recommend the Specials and in particular the Luigi or hot pepper and sliced potatoes with Pork Cutlets or Cod....the house salad is delicious and so are most of the desserts.
Oct 22, 2019Previous reviewI had to weigh in with another 5 star for Luigi's following last weekends delicious meal. We had a special arugula and avocado salad. Followed by Veal Milanese topped with Bruschetta and an excellent Broccoli Rabe with grilled chicken. The portions are generous, the waitresses make you feel at home and it's BYOB. I actually prefer Luigi's over neighbor Bellmont Tavern but both restaurants are worth trying.
Oct 3, 2019Previous reviewLuigi's is one of our very favorite family Italian restaurants. It's right on Bloomfield Ave so just a couple minutes off GSP. The dishes are hearty and waitresses like Antonia Marie are really great. We love the bruschetta and calamari as appetizers. For entrees any of the pastas are excellent and I always love the hot peppers and potatoes served with pork chop or sometimes with a special fish dish like Whiting. All of the specials are always good. It is a BYOB restaurant and not too fancy. It's a locals place for Belleville and two stores down from the Bellmont Tavern.
