Q:
How long is a typical dinner here? We plan to watch a Broadway show at 7pm, but I don't want to be "rushed" in a sense so I am favoring a later reservation after the show rather than a 5pm dinner. Any suggestions?
A:
I think you got it right to reserve after the show and not to rush it before . It's about a 1.5sh hour of dinner but if the restaurant is full (most likely...) it might be longer service . Enjoy .

This was a great place that a friend took me to! The food was outstanding and the Ice cream sandwich was delicious and i could taste the browned butter. Everything tasted like something I've never had before which is something I look forward to (especially for Italian restaurants). The tagliatelle was such a tasty pasta dish. Looking forward to another night out here!

When I came to L'Artusi around a year ago, I really liked it. When I came back yesterday, I loved it!!! My mom was in town for my graduation so I knew I had to take her somewhere special where there is good pasta because she loves Italian food. This did not disappoint! I had made a reservation with a few weeks in advance for 7:30pm on a Wednesday. We arrived on time but had to wait a little bit for our table to be ready. However, the service was incredibly quick and efficient so it made up for the mild delay. Our wait staff was so nice, patient, and on top of everything-- it was very impressive! At the same time, it did not feel like we were being pushed out of the restaurant and could enjoy our meal fully. This time we sat at the top level of the restaurant which I preferred because it was slightly more quiet than the main floor (although still pretty loud). For food I tried:
- House Made Ricotta: this was not on the main menu but instead in the cheeses menu. What a delicious appetizer to share! It came with a nice dollop of this fresh ricotta that was so creamy and thick and decadent. It came drizzled with olive oil and a little bit of flaky sea salt which really elevated it. The dish also came with some crackers that were crispy, thin, and had a hearty nutty taste, along with some sweet but tangy orange marmalade. Delicious! Would get again.
- Roasted Mushrooms: this one blew my mind. It's really hard to describe with words but now I understand why this dish is so hyped. The mushrooms were meaty, juicy, and had just the most divine umami flavor from the pancetta with a spicy kick from the red chilies. This was all balanced by the mild sweetness of ricotta salata and the silky richness of the egg yolk. No joke, one of the best bites I've had in NYC since moving here.
- Tagliatelle Bolognese: very good! The bolognese sauce had generous amounts of meat, and had a surprising homemade taste/ feel without being too oily or heavy. The tagliatelle were slightly overcooked but this is a thinner pasta so definitely hard to get right. My mom loved it! I also really enjoyed it.
- Gnocchi: my boyfriend got the gnocchi with rabbit ragu which were also very good. Similarly, his ragú tasted so fresh, homemade, and nourishing! The gnocchi were good but I definitely had better gnocchi in Italy in terms of texture, these ones felt a little flat but the flavor was good overall.
- Pici Cacio e Pepe: I got the cacio e pepe again since I was obsessed from my first time having it last year. This did not disappoint-- they always manage to strike the perfect al dente consistency for the pasta, as well as a nice uniform distribution of the sauce where the whole dish is perfectly coated in it. This time it felt a little bit more pepper heavy than last time but it somehow still worked very well. Delicious quality. Truly my favorite pasta dish in NYC.
- Brussel Sprouts side: crispy, salty, lemony, delicious! Would definitely get them again.
- Branzino Filet: the branzino was very good although at this point we were a little bit "salted" out because all the other dishes we got were heavily salted so it did not help this was over a bed of olives. However, the bronzino alone was AMAZING! It had the crispiest, most delicate skin, while keeping a super flaky and tender interior.
- Salted Chocolate Cake: perfect for the chocolate lover. This cake was rich, decadent, and not too sweet with a nice hint of salt and sweetness from the caramel. The bourbon gelato complemented the dense cake very well and the caramel popcorn added a fun twist!
- Olive Oil Cake: okay now I also get why everyone talks about this dessert.....definitely my favorite of the night wow. The cake is mildly sweet without being overpowering, with a fluffy consistency that is not bready but maintains a good level of moisture (like pound cake but less dense), and it has this delicious olive oil flavor. The cake with the powdered sugar on top and the creme fraiche was just *chef's kiss*. We personally thought the raisin marmalade was too sweet and honestly not even necessary but it does make for a more aesthetic presentation.
Overall, I had an amazing dinner experience here. I would definitely come back for the delicious dishes I tried (highly recommend the roasted mushrooms, house made ricotta, cacio e pepe, and olive oil cake!) The ambiance is still super lively and loud. Definitely a cool spot to come with a group of friends or impress a family member visiting from out of town. I am already looking forward to returning in the future!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Jun 3, 2023Previous reviewI came to L'Artusi with my boyfriend for dinner on a Friday night at 6:30pm. We had a reservation which we made around 2 weeks before when the reservations were released on Resy. We did not have to wait and were seated at a small table in the first floor as soon as we arrived. My first impression was that the decor was very nice and the space seemed very large/had perfect night energy. There was music playing that was a little too loud for the romantic ambiance I was originally hoping for which was a little disappointing. We were also sandwiched between two tables which had larger groups that were pretty loud with their conversation so I would think twice to plan a first or second date here if you are hoping for a normal conversation volume level (not the case here on Friday nights.) The servers were very nice and patient-- they would check in periodically with us, while also giving us helpful information regarding the menu whenever we inquired. We got two glasses of red wine which were generously sized and very tasty! For food, we ordered and split:
Foccacia: this was pretty average. The flavor was great but the focaccia was too dense and a little dry as opposed to chewy and fluffy. We might not have gotten the best batch since people usually rave about this being one of the best but it was not as good as it's painted to be. If you want bread though, it's probably the only option here and it's still good...just nothing out of this world.
Roasted Beets: this was a pretty refreshing app that is perfect for summer. It came with flavorful purple and golden roasted beets, as well as a bed of this goat cheese spread that was very good. Liked the mix of textures and flavors. Felt very bright and light.
Wagyu Carpaccio: really cute presentation! The quality of the beef was very nice, it really melts in your mouth. To me the flavor was nothing out of the ordinary--it was very mild although it did have some nice crunch from the rye crisps they put on top, just not much more dimension besides that. It's good to experience once but I am not sure it's worth the money to order this multiple times.
Rigatoni: this dish was delicious!! After trying my first bite I understood the hype around this place. Perfectly al dente, probably one of the highest quality pasta I have had in NYC. The rabbit ragú was also very flavorful without being too salty, had generous amounts of meat, and had a little spicy kick to it from the chilis. Very good! Would definitely order again.
Cacio e Pepe: for me this was the star of the show. I will say this is my first time ever trying cacio e pepe so I might have no reliable gauge of what is good, but this dish was fantastic. The pasta was chewy and cooked al dente, it was coated in a delicate layer of olive oil, pecorino, and Parmesan, with little hints of pepper. I am not sure what olive oil they use but it was exceptional, very earthy and bright, and it is complemented well by the savory cheeses and mild pepper spice. Would come back exclusively for this!
We skipped dessert here because the place was very loud and we wanted a little more quiet ambiance to end our night, however, they seem to have pretty good options like the olive oil cake and chocolate cake which I hope to try one day.
Overall, had a good experience. Even though the apps were pretty average, the pasta dishes were truly exceptional and if I could do it again, I would just focus my appetite on those and order more pastas. The ambiance is very lively (even to a point of being a little too loud) and cute so it's perfect for a group dinner with friends or a date if you do not mind a loud environment. I think it's worth trying at least once for sure so I would definitely recommend it if you can get a reservation! Will likely come back in the future during lunch for more amazing pastas... especially the heavenly cacio e pepe :') - May 12, 2024
Had this place bookmarked for a while and finally had the chance to try it! Made a Resy reservation a day before for brunch with no issues. We ordered the Bucatini and the Bucatini Nero with a side order of crispy potatoes. My husband loved the Bucatini Nero and complimented on the flavors and pairing with the crab meat. My Bucatini was just okay; nothing to rave about. I did love their crispy potatoes because they were very crispy but soft on the inside.
A heads up, the seating is very tight between groups so you could hear the other tables conversations haha.
Overall, a decent place for Italian pasta but not sure if it's worth the hype.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 5, 2024
Reservation: they open resy two weeks beforehand at 9am and was very difficult to get a spot. When we arrived at 5pm, there was a huge line waiting to be put on the waitlist (so would def recommend getting a resy beforehand)
Food: few items really stood out
1. Wagyu carpaccio 5/5- fave of the night
2. Hanger steak 4.5/5- pleasantly surprised by how tender the steak is. I'm usually disappointed by the steaks at Italian restaurants, and this is definitely one of the best ones I've had (I'm not into carbs, but I was told by others that the potatoes were really good)
3. Roasted mushroom 4/5 flavorful
4. Tagliatelle 3.5/5- my least fave of the evening. Biggest regret was not ordering the bucatini nero and now I have to come back
5. Olive oil cake- MUST GET. SO FREAKING GOOD
Ambiance- bustling, lively ambiance with an open kitchen and counters.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - May 5, 2024Updated review
Came here again the other night and sat at the bar. The staff is so friendly and the food is so good!
I got the gnocchi with rabbit ragu and it was delicious. Plenty of meat sauce and rabbit, and the gnocchi was so delicious. Perfectly soft and chewy!
The bar is also so comfortable and such a nice vibe!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0May 26, 2023Previous reviewI had a very nice lunch at L'Artusi. I sat upstairs and loved how the natural light flooded in through the skylight. The staff was pretty nice too but the tables are very close together.
Roasted Mushrooms: 11/10
GET THESE MUSHROOMS. I don't even love mushrooms but these are insane. The mushrooms are so juicy and flavorful with all the spices. The egg and cheese are such a lovely addition too. This dish is so well done all the flavors work so well together. This what is driving the 5 stars.
Spaghetti: 9/10
This spaghetti was very delicious and was a very unique flavor. It was light with the spices and cheese but very filling. I thought the portion size was fair. I liked the crunchy breadcrumbs in contrast to the soft chewy noodles. The noodles were perfectly cooked and even throughout the meal the breadcrumbs remained crunchy. In the end, one issue I had with the pasta is it got extremely oily.
Squid Ink Linguine Nero Pasta: 8.5/10
Very delicious if you like seafood pasta! I really enjoyed the squid ink noodles. They were also cooked very well. There is a good amount of seafood in this pasta, which is appreciated.
Olive Oil Cake: 8.5/10
I had heard a lot about this cake, so I was eager to try it. It is really good, but I don't think I'd order it again. I would recommend sharing it because it is so rich and should be eaten with all the accompaniment.
The cake was surprisingly not that moist given that it has oil in it. I did love everything on the plate together. It is one INSANE bite: the olive oil cake, vanilla whipped cream with salt, and sweet raisins with honey. The combination of sweet and savory is delectable but confusing for the brain. The whipped cream is amazing and the raisins are too.
I would happily come here again for a special occasion! - May 2, 20242 check-ins
I've been to L'Artusi for dinner twice and have had overall good experiences! The food is excellent; everything I've tried has been exemplary. The ambiance inside is very nice, but I've also sat outside and it's still a comfortable experience.
You can't go wrong with the cacio e pepe, both times I've tried it the pasta was cooked perfectly and it had just the right amount of pepper and cheese. However, it doesn't hold a candle to the Pici Nero. The chili, big pieces of crab meat, and tomatoes give the dish so much flavor. It's such a unique dish!
The tuna crudo is great if you like spice! The chili packs a punch. We also tried the roasted mushrooms (perfect size to share as a side).
This is a spot that you can't skip dessert at! The olive oil cake is the perfect texture and the raisin sauce and creme make it even better. We also loved the chocolate chip cinnamon cookies (served warm and are seriously the best chocolate chip cookie I've had in ages).
Only reason this isn't 5-stars is that when I dined here earlier this week our waiter was super unfriendly. Still, I'd dine here again in the future.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2024
Came here for brunch on a Saturday at 1pm and it was incredible! There is a decent amount of outdoor seating but we sat inside and it was beautiful and airy.
We started with the L'artusi vodka gimlet and it was a bit on the stronger side but still very refreshing. To start, we ordered the focaccia which I wish was a little warmer and would not necessarily recommend but was still good. The lemon ricotta pancakes were phenomenal and fluffy - an absolute must get! The wagyu tartare was also delicious and would recommend. We also got the roasted mushrooms which was great and went super well with the egg on top.
For our main items, we got the carbonara which had plenty of bacon bits and was delicious and the spaghetti which I preferred between the two and was the perfect amount of spicy and al dente. We also got the burger which was so juicy and came with potatoes which were nice and crispy.
For dessert, we got the olive oil cake which on its own was a bit dry but mixed in with everything was incredible. We also got the chocolate chip cinnamon cookies and those were warm and comforting.
Service was great and would come back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 6, 2024
Great cocktails, great vibes, food was spectacular!
This restaurant has been on my list for forever and it didn't disappoint. Loved everything we ordered from the roasted chicken to the bolognese. Our server was always attentive.
Would definitely recommend!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 5, 2024
Such a good place!! Enjoyed their cocktail, aptly named meet cute for my first visit at L'Artusi. The ricotta cheese with crackers was very good and sweet especially with the jam accompaniment. Loved the fig & pear appetizer which was cut into thirds. The tuna appetizer was also amazing, especially loved the crispy farro which enhanced the texture! The spaghetti blew my mind - never had a spaghetti like it before as it was a creamy white sauce rather than the traditional red tomato. Finally, had to try their olive oil cake which was delicious!! Did not care too much for the side of candied raisins.
Enjoyed the ambiance of the bustling restaurant on another rainy day! The service was also very attentive as well.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 27, 2024
I was finally able to nab a table at a decent time at L'Artusi, and for my anniversary no less! Both of us are bucatini lovers, so we tried both the classic red bucatini and the squid ink bucatini with crab. They were both perfectly al dente and had great combinations of flavors. The wines we tried were both great too. L'Artusi staff were kind enough to also give us a free gelato with a candle for our anniversary, but we also got another dessert on the side. We got a super dense chocolate cake with bourbon gelato and caramel popcorn. It was delicious but definitely on the dry side. However, perhaps that was on purpose as it went really well with the milky soft gelato. The meal overall was absolutely delectable.
Our table was outdoor, which was a mistake on my part as I meant to get an indoor reservation. However, the outdoor area is quite comfortable and covered. There are plenty of heat lamps as well keeping it warm - we even turned the ones around us down because they were working too well. It was actually nice to eat outside at 5pm as golden hour kicked in. Service was super fast as well.
Overall, L'Artusi lives up to the hype. Definitely snag a reso if you can and go check it out.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Emelia H.East Bronx, NY83410May 18, 2024
Service and food here is very good! I also had crispy potatoes as an appetizer that was very flavorful and came with a good sauce pairing. The candles and music help with the whole vibe of this restaurant which was nice. Would come back one day!
