Referred to as a staple of Israeli cuisine, kubeh, similar to dumplings, has been around the middle east for years and served in a variety of forms, from fried or boiled to baked or raw. Chef Melanie Shurka brings her experience cooking kubeh to a restaurant of the same name at Kubeh in New York, NY, to provide unique and delicious middle eastern food for many to enjoy. When developing the recipes, Chef Shurka spent her time in many different restaurants and homes where Israeli cooking was prominent. She learned the tips and tricks that have been passed down from generation to generation and takes great pride in giving her customers a taste of middle eastern food that is genuine and finely crafted. Each piece of kubeh is rolled by hand delicately and filled with the finest and freshest ingredients available. The meat comes from small family farms that treat their animals humanely and are both 100 percent antibiotic and hormone free. Round like a meatball, they are commonly filled with lamb, beef, or vegetables and complimented by rich broths including beet, swiss chard, and tomato. As a comfort food with a fresh appeal, the selection of kubeh offered includes Syrian lamb and fish, Iraqi vegetable, and Kurish Siske. In addition, they have a variety of middle eastern cuisine including mezes, spreads, and main dishes like Persian Lime Chicken and Jerusalem Cous Cous. If you are searching for a unique and authentic place to take family and friends, visit Kubeh...

A winner. Everything is fresh, wholesome. Vegetarian and meat, great choices for both. Unusual menus, 6 types of humus, an amazing eggplant appetizer with tahini and pomegranate with delicious vinaigrette.,Could be a nice date night or just all occasion dining. Decor inside is very pretty, sidewalk dinning was closed st lunch but looked very nice. I forgot to mention the super friendly greeting we received snd the excellent service. A great place!

Best service I've had in a while! We sat outdoors with my dog and the server brought out a water bowl and even asked if my dog would like some "t-r-e-a-t-s"!! This was so thoughtful, knowing how crazy dogs can get with certain words lol.
We had the muhamara, warm cauliflower and grilled eggplant to share. My husband had the shawarma pita and I got the middle eastern breakfast.
Food was amazing and service was very attentive and friendly. Can't wait to go back to try the kibbeh next time!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Lovely brunch spot. We walked right in! The layout is great, you don't feel cramped and it has some amazing natural light.
Food was yummy. I am a huge cauliflower fan and this one really hit the spot. The French toast was not too sweet and was also really delicious. I could definitely see coming back either for a small brunch or even for a larger group.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Amazing food and friendly service. The space is very open and light.
I got the shakshuka for brunch. I came with a party of 3 and we were seated right away on a Sunday at noon. The dish was perfectly seasoned and the beef added a nice dimension. Would come here again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Always love it here and this dinner was no exception! I went with my roommate on a Sunday for a lowkey birthday dinner. I always love the muhammara and the rest of the food was great. The server even helped my roommate secretly order a birthday dessert for me. It's always so cute inside too! Definitely recommend.

I came here for brunch and it was even better than dinner! The mallawach and haloumi plate were both stellar. The servers were the sweetest and even bright treats for my friend's little dog. The heated covered outdoor dining was perfect and we so appreciate being able to dine safely in 2024 as COVID continues to rage.
There is a large well-equipped wheelchair accessible restroom inside.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Dec 26, 2023Previous reviewFantastic Israeli-Middle Eastern spot that offers a glimpse into the underrepresented mizrahi Jewish cuisine.
We were drawn in by their month-long Hanukkah prix menu ($45) and it did not disappoint! To start, we were given crispy latkes with labneh and spiced apple sauce. For my entree, I chose beef Kubeh, which is an Israeli-Kurdish soup dish with meat-filled dumplings. To finish off, we were given two delicious sufganniyot (Hanukkah donuts), one filled with raspberry jam and the other with Nutella.
The restaurant has excellent heated outdoor dining options and are happy to accommodate the need to sit outside in winter months. As a COVID safe person, I felt totally comfortable and the heat lamp was strong enough for me to take my coat off in mid 40s weather.
Service is excellent and everything is wheelchair accessible. Not aware of bathroom as I didn't go in. The wheelchair accessible entrance is on 11th Street. - Mar 17, 2024
Outstanding lunch yesterday at Kubeh. I had the chicken shawarma with lemony arugula and onion salad. Highly seasoned with a zingy herby green tahini, mango spicy amba sauce. I got their warm pita to go with it. Washed it down with a nice chagachinno mushroom coffee. I got dessert to go: semolina ricotta cake with a lemony glaze. Everything was fresh and delicious. I loved the bar window seat. I'll be back

Came for restaurant week and was not blown away. I felt like all the dishes needed much more flavor. The kubeh had a texture that wasn't my favorite - very dense - but that is probably personal preference. The inside was very cute and the staff was nice.

Thank you for taking the time to review, Sandra. I'm sorry to hear we didn't fully hit the mark. We hope you'll give us another chance to wow you!

Wow this was the best middle Eastern food I've had at a restaurant. I wish I had a chance to meet the owner because I have so much respect for the multitude of levels her dishes had. I had one dish that could be tasted in 5 different ways with the variety of sauce combinations available on the plate alone. The prices to me were well below what they deserved to be. Whenever I go back to New York I will definitely be back here. It also hit close to home for me because my Sita used to make kibeh and it was a joy trying an elevated version of what she used to make from the pistachio baklava to the kibeh itself. So happy this place exists.

Had a great meal for restaurant week! My favorite was the spread samples! The deal on wine was great as well. My biggest disappointment was the temperature. For whatever reason they insist on keeping the air conditioning on and then in the bathroom the air is somehow even colder. It is below freezing outside and yet this restaurant insists on keeping the air on... An elderly couple asked them to turn it off and they said they couldn't & moved their table. They ate in their winter clothing and I soon understood why.
Will be back but maybe in the summer when AC is appropriate.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for the review Tamara! We were having some unfortunate issues with our heater on that night, the air was not coming out warm, and we greatly apologize. It will be cozier on you next visit! Hope to see you again soon.

I have fond memories of restaurant week and have always looked forward to it to try new restaurants. However through the years, i find it's no longer value for money but decided to give it another chance and found Kubeh . They were participating and has a good selection on the menu for RW and the price is quite reasonable!
With minimal expectation , I was surprised on the upside . I entered from the 6th avenue entrance and was welcomed by helpful hosts . I like the speakeasy vibe ( not sure if it's intentional or just the layout of the restaurant). I walked through the bar into the restaurant which was beautifully decorated and felt that was transformed elsewhere .
Food was good ( thanks for the salmon appetizer recommendation, it was the best Dish I had that evening ). We tasted all the food each person ordered including the eggplant , fish , chicken shawarma, schnitzel. Our server was nice , helpful , attentive . The wine pairing was a good call , the wines were carefully chosen.
I like the ambiance and would go back with a larger group of friends which is what it's perfect for . It's closed to the subway and to bars , in the event people want to go for drinks post ( or pre )dinnerHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
