After much talk about its longevity I had to experience dining myself. Unfortunately this venue missed the beat several times: cold meatballs, cold "special of the day" lasagna, and the carnivore pizza was doughie. Spoke to manager when I was about to leave and nothing was done. Very disappointing. Much better places in Wynwood to check out and spend time on.

I use to love coming here in 2020 but recently when I visited I wasn't impressed by the quality of the food. I ordered a carpaccio and it didn't even come with a side of bread.

I recently had a chance to eat here after I took a tour of the Wynwood street art. It is located right on the corner of 2nd Ave and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Because it is August, we decided to dine inside.
The menu is not that extensive, they did offer specials. The items on the menu are Italian staples, and it was easy to choose something that I was familiar with. My server was pretty knowledgeable, and even after we requested to make some changes to one of the specials, he was very kind enough to request it for us. For my meal, I ordered the Caprese salad and calamari. My partner ordered a special of grilled swordfish steak and pesto pasta. Both meals came out quickly and were very good. I especially enjoyed the zucchini and the spicy red sauce served with my calamari. For dessert I decided on the churro donut, and my partner had the caramel gelato. The caramel gelato had nuts in it which was a little different and the caramel flavor was not that strong. The churro donut and a vanilla ice cream was perfectly fine. As always, you need to expect Miami prices when you die now in Miami and popular sections. Although the meal was a little on the expensive side, it was one of the meals that we really enjoyed while in Miami.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 2, 2022Updated review
The first hip restaurant in Wynwood, Joey's is getting a much deserved upgrade. I stopped by for dinner during night 2 of Basel 2022 and it was packed back to how it was during it's beginning. Heck, there were even a few chefs from other Wynwood spots dining there.
I managed to get a seat at the bar, and started with a well blended, flavored and smooth pineapple mojito #becauserum (Hey it makes art easier to interpret :) My dinner was another favorite - chicken Parmesan. Picture a serving of Al dente pasta with both marinara sauce and fresh tomatoes and a well seasoned chicken breast occupying major plate real estate. The aforementioned chicken breast has a light spread of cheese but heavy on the marinara how I love. Add a dash of red pepper flakes and you'll enjoy a filling and rich platter. Leave some space for their desserts though. The strawberry gelato garnished with a flower was refreshing but my eyes caught a bombolini with fresh berries I need to try next time.
Enjoy the music, maybe chat with a fellow bar patron, then close off with an aperitif - perhaps a classic amaretto sour on the rocks. Now you're talking!Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0Dec 3, 2018Previous reviewAfter around 8 years, I think it's time to drop some stars on Joey's. I appreciate the fact they were essentially the first hip restaurant in Wynwood, but I think that with age they are getting a little long in the tooth. For one, they charge an 18% automatic tip even on single diners. You read enough of my reviews and you know that's a MAJOR pet peeve of mine!
I stopped by in the afternoon for a bite after my first round of Baseling and liked the fact they now have an open terrace where I could enjoy my dinner in the perfect Miami "winter" afternoon. The bread service was still as good as I remembered with crispy baguette and balsamic vinegar. So far so good, until my meatball appetizer arrived.
You see, the sauce the meatballs were served in wasn't the same hearty sauce but what looked like regular tomato sauce from the generic aisle at the supermarket. To their credit, the meatballs themselves were still juicy. But the sauce helps make or break the dish. My old favorite dolce piccante pizza also didn't seem the same, as the crust seemed greasier and the figs smaller. I also didn't taste as much heat as it used to have.
Come on Joey's, please bring it back to your roots!Jan 24, 2010Previous reviewI had previously just submitted a quick tip, as the Dolce e Piccante pizza was the extents of my Joey's experience. After a dinner with a friend, I can certainly say this is still the case.
We started off with the Bruschetta Caprese appetizer. The bread was the perfect crunch, but couldn't taste the tomatoes as it appeared they went a little overboard on the cheese. She ordered the Spaghetti Pomodoro and loved it. (I tried some of it and will say the tomatoes tasted and looked fresh; this simple staple of Itali-American cuisine was well prepared.)
The coup de grace came with the headliner. The crust was light, and had the powdery, almost soda cracker taste I look for in pizza crust. Honey was visibly sprinkled on the crust and with each bite we could both taste the flavor mix of spicy and sweet. The sweets were enough that I didn't actually go for dessert! We did order coffee, though my capuccino appeared to have just frothed milk instead of whipped cream.
Besides the coffee, the only other downer was that now they charge $3 for the formerly free valet parking. Still and all, Joey's remains as one of my favorite design district restaurants. - 270170617Dec 28, 2022
My family and I stopped at Joey's after exploring the Wynwood walls area. We figured it would be good for the group since the menu ranged from pizza, to burgers, to pasta, and seafood. We started with the charcuterie board to share, which was a good mix of bread, meats, cheeses, tomatoes and peppers.
I went with the pepperoni special, which was topped with goat cheese and so good! They have happy hour starting at 3. I got the mezcal flamingo and loved it. Our server, Edgar was also great!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 19, 2022
We came for lunch Saturday and were starving, so didn't get a picture of everything. Overall the restaurant is nice, has great service and good food. Took a star off bc the chairs were a bit uncomfortable and for how I felt a few hours after the meal.
Pricing is a bit high, but the food is good. We had octopus, meatballs, pear fiocchi, chicken parmigiana, seafood pasta and a few other dishes. Everything was delicious and made us happy. I think maybe we ate too much or the pear fiocchi was a bit heavy. Other then that everyone left and felt satisfied.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 15180463Oct 7, 2022
A group of us went out to Wynwood and had so much fun at Joey's!
We split a giant pitcher of Strawberry Sangria, and each ordered something different. The overall consensus: pretty good, but want to try different things next time we come. Example: I ordered pasta, but was drooling over my friend's pizza!
The service was average, the people were extremely nice. We sat in their outdoor patio, which has lots of fans for the Miami heat.
Located just around the corner from Wynwood Walls, paid parking close by - definitely a nice little stop for Italian while in WynwoodHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
