April 2023 update: I no longer have a trailer at Jacksons hideaway. However, I still come out to visit. Bill and Harlene are like family and they treat their residents that way. Bill manages the park and is a stickler for maintenance, cleanliness and following health and safety requirements. He is constantly looking for ways to improve the RV park.
The park still has an amazing location. There are plenty of places to walk your dog or take a hike. You won't find better weather anywhere from Halloween through about Memorial Day. If you have an off-road vehicle, you can ride to your heart's content on BLM property, just a couple blocks west. The gorgeous Anza Borrego state park is a short drive away on the "S2 Highway."
Jacksons Hideaway has a huge porch with swings and chairs to hang out on and relax. There's a rec room with a TV, satellite and quite a few books and DVDs that have been collected over the years. Those are all free for residents to use. They have washer and dryer's and a full-size shower and bathroom available for residents and overnighters. If you plan on bringing your trailer or motorhome out here, every space has full hook ups with a concrete pad, 50 & 30 amp hook ups, Water, and septic.
You won't find a better deal in terms of price anywhere in the valley. You can either rent one of their nicely maintained, fully outfitted trailers, or bring your own. The pricing on the trailer varies by size. There is a fixed rent for RVs/trailers that need a space. No uplift is charged on the electricity and the rates are less than half of San Diego's electrical rates.
The park is just outside of the small town of Ocotillo, but has very easy access off of interstate 8. Just make sure to take the Frontage road (Evan Hewes Highway) as Google and some other mapping programs might send you down a dirt road, were you could get stuck.
Ocotillo has seen a small burst of business creation. There are at least two places where you can rent off-road vehicles or go on off-road tours. There is a new full service bar that also serves pizza and other food called the "The Great Escape." There is also the "Red Feather" mini market and a café. Breakfast and lunch is served most days. The food is very good. And, of course, the legendary "Lazy Lizard" bar. On the other side of the freeway is a remodeled Chevron gas station that has a well stocked mini market and plenty of clean bathrooms. If you need something for the soul, there are services every Sunday at the "Ocotillo Bible church."Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Jun 12, 2015Previous reviewA great family run RV park with a mixture of trailers, all very clean, that can be rented or spaces for your own rig. Been there 11 years as it's cheaper to keep my rig out there rather than tow it back and forth. Plus, I'm right next to BLM land and can take my toys straight out into the desert. And this is the ONLY park I've been in where the owners will help you if you have a problem with YOUR rig. I love it here.
The Jackson's are just great, honest folk. - Juliana A.CA, CA07Apr 27, 2023
