Q:
Does anyone know what the mayo looking dipping sauce is? They give you 4 dipping sauces to start out with. A spicy one, a salty one, a sweet one, but I can't figure out what the yellow/ mayo looking sauce is.
A:
It's similar to the sauce you often get at Japanese hibachi restaurants - sometimes called Yum Yum sauce or a variation. It is pretty good on chicken and vegetables. It is a mayo based sauce with tomato paste, sugar, rice wine vinegar, butter,… more

Iron Age is one of my favorites! I can't get enough of the brisket and the galbi sauce. So delicious!
The Duluth location can take in bigger groups. I've been multiple times and the most recent one was with a group of 7! We were sat quickly, just needed for the whole party to arrive. The ambiance was popping as always, KPOP all over.
$29 per person AYCE is a deal. Come hungry!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Ivan B.Winder, GA625921May 3, 2024
Been a couple times, staff is nice but they seem overworked. Also not a big fan of K-Pop and having it also projected, I feel like the music selection could be switched up a bit.
Stopped going after I came by and the burner kept going out and our server was already overwhelmed with the amount of people. Food is great though! But I can get a calmer, less K-Pop, and more consistent experience at some other local KBBQ joints.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joseph H.Chattanooga, TN693Mar 1, 2024
I came here during a business trip a few weeks back and had a fantastic dinner. A huge part of that was due to my server Egypt. She was very attentive and knowledge about the meats. She took her time serving me and definitely represented this restaurant very well.
I will be returning when I'm in town for business and I will be recommending this location to my colleagues.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 12, 20241 check-in
One of the best places to eat Korean BBQ! It's all you can eat, which is a plus. This place is a hands on DIY bbq but if you need help, the servers are always there! Their side dishes are always refreshing and endless! This place is great for big groups or just one!

Unfortunately things seem to have changed at Iron Age for the worse. I'm not sure what's going on but on a recent visit my husband and I were incredibly disappointed. We came by on a weeknight (February 5, 2024) when things were pretty slow. There was no wait and we got seated immediately and our sauces were already sitting on the table. Unfortunately I'm not sure how long those sauces had been there but it looked like it had been quite a while as there was a visible crust/skin forming on the sauces where they had begun to dry out. We asked for new ones and our server made sure to swap them out. We asked for japchae and steamed egg and were told that they did not have any. When the grill cooktop was placed over the flame, a dark liquid began to seep up from underneath the grate and sizzle right where the food was supposed to be cooked. We brought this to the attention of our server and he was very apologetic and removed the grate and brought us a new one. When he lifted the grate off, we could see underneath that it was absolutely coated in old grease from other prior customers that had not been completely washed off. He brought us a new grate but when he put the new one on the flame, the exact same thing began to happen.... So he brought us a third grate. Well, you can probably guess that the same thing began to happen to the third one. At that point our server had walked away to attend to another table but he must have let his supervisor/manager know we were having issues with the cooktop being dirty because she saw us looking around for our server, and without saying anything to us she walked up, snatched the grate off with her tool, and walked off. A moment later our server reappeared and brought us a fourth cooktop. Honestly we were very put off and disturbed by this experience as the seeping grates were very gross looking and I cannot imagine that they are hygienic. Our fourth one did not do any kind of seepage so we were okay with cooking and eating off that one but 3 in a row was definitely alarming. We did not get sick thankfully but this has for sure put us off of returning to Iron Age for Korean bbq and honestly we probably will not return for a very long time because of this night.

In fact, they only brought brisket back on to the menu within the last year- before that, there were a few years where it wasn't even an option.
The building is very large. Seriously, I think they are capable of seating several hundred people at once. The decor and lighting is very "nightclub" and there is a bar area but there is no dancefloor or anything like that. There are big screens throughout projecting korean pop music. Sometimes you will have to share a table or high top with another party depending on the size of your group. If your party is big enough, you'll get more than one cooking grill as well. They let you order max. 2 meats at a time per cooktop and some things take longer to cook from others.
They provide you with unlimited simple banchan and will serve you a smaller portion of some things at the outset and will give you a bigger portion if you ask for a refill. For instance they serve you 4 slices of pink radish to begin with, and my friend is a big fan so when we ask for a refill they give us probably 15 pieces. The salad is pretty nice (a little kick!) but for the most part nothing that they serve is too spicy. They don't offer lettuce wraps off the bat but I am pretty sure they have them if you ask.
There are no vegetarian options on the menu (very limited pescatarian) therefore I would not recommend this to people with dietary restrictions. There are more chicken and beef options than most places which is why this is my favorite, since I don't eat pork. If you order brisket, they swap out your cooking grate, so I would recommend brisket either at the beginning or the end of the meal. The tteokbokki (on the menu as spicy rice cakes) are my absolute favorite side and they're also not spicy at all so don't let that scare you.
Service is friendly and attentive, but I have only ever been later in the evening on the weekend.
Lines and waits are extensive- I recommend adding yourself to the waitlist through the Yelp app before you leave your house if you are planning to go on a peak night, since that is the system that they use for waitlists. - Nov 29, 2023
Came here as a party of 2 on a Friday night and was seated promptly. Standard Korean bbq fare with all of the fixings. Our waitress was attentive and our food was fresh. Cool place to come with a group as they have booth style seating, music playing and music videos on the tvs throughout.
We didn't eat much but the food was plentiful.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 5, 2024
I enjoyed the food choices here and the meat was very fresh. Not sure why this place has such a low score. Super chill and laid back place to get your KBBQ grub on. Staff super friendly and the drinks were very delicious.

I knew about the reputation Iron Age had all along, but when a few of my friends decided to catch up over Korean barbecue we decided to go there. Big mistake.
We ordered a few dishes, primarily marinated with the exception of the brisket.
The grill kept shutting off despite many attempts by the waiters and manager to turn it back on. We did manage to get it to work eventually.
Meat was consistently tough and for some reason they left the bones on the bulgogi.
Banchan was mid- had to ask for kimchi to be served.
You can do better, especially in Duluth. I get that it is an approachable restaurant. But after eating elsewhere you will notice the stark contrast.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 3 - Jun 23, 2023
Man I love Korean Steak Houses! So I came here with my kids before checking out the Japanese Life Store close by. We've eating at Korean Steak houses and this one got right in. We got there in time for lunch ($23 pp) deal, all you eat off of the specific menu (see pics).
The small plates of food in general I would give a 7/10. The plates ranged from cold to warm items. I was expecting the rice hotter and also the rice cakes but they were on the colder side of warm.
We were 1 of 5 parties there at that time and had to wait almost 20 minutes to be seated. Once seated the waiter asked if it was our first time and then began explaining Iron Age. Choose 2 proteins and I will take another protein order once you all are almost done with the second.
We choose the nerf bulgogi and lemon chicken. The waiter fired up the grill, took our drink orders (2 Sprites and a water) and left. Came back almost 5 minutes later with drinks and left again. We didn't see him again for 10 minutes. When he came back I asked, "do we cook the food or is he cooking the food (ALL KOREAN STEAK HOUSES ARE DIFFERENT)?" He said we cook it but he will come back and help. I threw all the beef in the grill. I noticed it wasn't cooking the same so called the waiter over, he then instructed that the grill has a hot/ cold side, etc. so I needed up cooking the beef then the chicken. We all enjoyed our food (I'm a great cook .
CONS:
The restaurant has a Restaurant Health Score of 81. The waiter never mentions not cooking beef and poultry (I DID NOT). On my out the patrons increased and I saw ppl with raw chicken next to almost cooked beef.
We barely saw our waiter, never got our drinks refilled, when he came back I was done cooking.
Overall: the food was good, I enjoyed the ambience and decor. My family and I had a good family experience.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
