Established in 1989. il·mee | \ēl mē \ : superb flavor | Two brave immigrants, far from their homeland, took a chance and opened an authentic Korean restaurant in Marietta, Georgia in 1989. It was modest and wholesome--it was like mom's home cooking. It is home. Flavors and traditions passed down through generations are honored here. Eat well.

Soups/stews were full of flavor. Tasted really authentic and definitely filled the Korean food craving we had. Sides were really fresh and service was very quick and friendly. Definitely feels like a hole in the wall place that services delicious food. Menu is a bit limited but that goes to show that they know what they're doing.
Will have to come back here for sure.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 6, 20241 check-in
I ate at this restaurant last Wednesday. Walked in around 6 pm and only one table was taken. By the time we finished, the place was packed around 8 pm.
Service initially was a bit slow, but was worth it. The fresh side dishes were quite delicious especially the radish kimchi and regular cabbage kimchi. I ordered the spicy beef intestine stew and it was enough for two or three people. The broth, noodles, and vegetables in it were tasty, but the beef intestine was meh...
Overall, enjoyed eating there with some old friends I haven't seen in a few years.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 101442552Jan 16, 2024
If you haven't discovered this hidden gem, then you're missing out. Located in a not so conventional area on Cobb Pkwy (literally surrounded by business, a law firm and warehouse), is Il Mee. This place has been here for a long time and their food can attest to this. We came early for dinner and was seated right away to a very empty restaurant. The servers are older Korean ladies and they were both very sweet. I ordered the kimchi jiggae. Our banchan were served with our entrees (other places serve banchan first, kind of like how they serve bread at steakhouses). Tonight's banchan included two different kinds of cucumber, fish cake, kimchi, potatoes, bean sprouts, radish. Our favorites were the kimchi and fish cake. My soup was so good and tasty. I don't know if it was the kimchi but it just elevated the soup flavor. It had tons of pork pieces though I wish it had more tofu pieces. This was served with rice as well.
Overall, such a great place to go to if you're in the area and don't want to drive to Buford Hwy or Gwinnett for authentic Korean fares.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 267300370Jan 2, 2024
Simple no fuss great food and great service.
A cozy little place that serves wholesome Korean food is how I would describe Il Mee. I have had the pleasure of visiting multiple times and the food has been consistently good.
Even though the restaurant is always packed, the service has never changed. We were always seated immediately and the food came out within a few minutes. I always order the spicy seafood tofu soup and it is hearty and delicious.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 42120436Dec 2, 2023
Wow! I mean wow. If you're in the mood for some amazing Korean food, please look no further. Typically all the heavy hitters when it comes to Asian food are on Buford highway. This gem is located in the Kennesaw/Marietta area. This isn't a Korean BBQ spot so don't expect that.
But it is an exception restaurant. One thing that caught my eye was the seating. They had a section of the restaurant that had traditional seating at a table and they also had floor seating which I thought was cool and authentic.
But you're not here to read about the restaurants floor plan. The food?!? AMAZING! We ordered the scallion pancake, spicy pork, and the bulgogi. All were amazing. The seafood in the scallion pancake tasted so fresh. The bulgogi was seasoned amazingly and unbelievably tender. The Spicy Pork...sensational.
Do yourself a favor and eat here whenever you get the chance.

We had our first experience here tonight. We've been looking for a good Korean place that wasn't all you can eat. This hit the spot! The beef and pork portions were huge! Both were delicious. They have chair seats and also floor seats. It's a small place but we had good service. A group low key had a fight while we were there and the whole place basically was just listening to them so dinner and a show lol. But the food was amazing so we'll be back!

We love this authentic place! It was my mistake to not call ahead and find out they were busy! Saturday night at 8pm- packed, with people waiting.
We hadn't been in a few years, and just remembered it was authentic and yummy the last time.
These two older Korean ladies were busting their butts, running around, doing it all: greeting, wiping tables, bussing tables, taking orders, bringing food and waters out, etc. They were literally running from table to table-- intense haha. Hard workers!
The right side has traditional Korean style table seating, low to the ground, "Indian style" on pillows, with no back support. A raised section, and you take off your shoes to go up there. It's authentic and fun, but for people not used to it, or w back problems, or just older haha, it's rough lol. It was so busy, that that was the only table open, so we tried, but let them know that we wanted to switch tables when one opened. After a few minutes, one opened and we switched to a normal table. But many Korean people seemed to have no problem sitting up there.
It took a minute to get waters, and a menu, but we understood. We were craving the popular Korean staples:
*Jap Chae-- sweet potato glass noodles, stir fried with shredded veggies and beef (carrots, cabbage, zucchini, green onion, etc). Was pretty good. Felt like it was missing a little bit of something- some kind of flavor im used to in it, but couldn't pin point it.. like a hint of sweetness/ sesame oil maybe missing? No biggie, and was still good.
*Bi Bim Bap (hope I spelled that right!) -- traditionally a clay pot of steamed white rice, covered in 6-8 sections of toppings, that consist of many pickled veggies, other veggies, beef, a spicy sauce, and a runny fried egg in the middle. You mix it all together and can eat it that way, or add more sauce, or add in the many pickled veggie options that also come along with every meal. It was pretty good, but not the best one I've had. It also had fresh lettuce in it, which im not used to.
*egg seafood scallion pancake appetizer (forgot the name), which was good and flavorful, but thicker and softer than I'm used to. I'm used to a tad thinner and a little crispy, but it was still so good, and everyone does things differently.
It had a great dipping sauce with it.
*We also ordered the triangle egg roll appetizer, which I've never tried with Korean food, and it was great! Our favorite of them all- great flavors and textures. Was filled with meat and veggies and great dipping sauce. I forgot what kind of meat was inside. My son loved them- and he's so picky!
Everything was made super fresh! You could tell.
This place was the spot to be for Koreans, and everyone else! Lots of Korean being spoken, which made me miss my diverse home (Bay Area), and always hearing so many languages all day. It had a great atmosphere, a packed, full house, young college kids, friends, families w kids, a bit of everyone. They had many options, and lots of sizzling soups and platters of meat, and hot plates going by, to cook some dishes at your table. Lots more to try.
The sweet lady apologized at the end for being so busy. We felt bad it was only her and one other lady running the whole dang show. They must've been short on people. They did good! We boxed up leftovers to go. We spent about $50 for those 4 items and tip, I believe. We'll be back!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - 07539Jun 1, 2023
First time eating here. I've know about it for years and sorry it has taken me so long to visit.
Don't let the outside fool you. Inside is very neat and clean. The two women that seem to run the place are very attentive.
The food is as authentic as it can get! Even have Korean beers and ice cream pops. We will definitely be back for more. Delicious!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 17, 2023
Great place to eat for lunch. Price is very affordable for what you get. They have lunch and dinner menu. Even their lunch menu comes with banchan and it was all really good. I was tempted to ask for more but I ordered the bim bim bop and that filled me up! Very authentic Korean food made by Korean older ladies. My rule of thumb on how you can tell when a place is good is when they have their own people eating the native cuisine being served. From the outside this place looks like a hole in the wall partly because they have cheap faded signage out front, but when you go inside, it's not as bad looking. Still a hole in the wall though. They even have the floor seating if you want to eat true Korean style. Over all the food, price, and portion is why I gave it high stars
