My family has come here several times over the last 10 years so we decided to make the trek for a Friday Thanksgiving meal. It was always very good and a kind of experience due to the farm aesthetic and ambiance. Post-pandemic we've all observed the price increases and cut backs so it was expected they would do so. They did. But there's no place around like this that I've heard of or been to.
We drove from the Baltimore-area to come here and probably won't again due to the changes but it's definitely worth a visit for those who haven't been here before. They have a country store and bed-and-breakfast. The actual restaurant used to be a horse barn and they have hot apple cider provided for free while you wait. And generally you will wait because it's very popular, for good reason. There is a train that rides around the perimeter of the main room that is nice, especially for kids.
The food is family style which means everyone shares and it's all you can eat which is nice. It's a preset menu which includes house salad, spiced peaches, vegetables, stewed apples, corn fritters, beverage & dessert. One of their big draws is the salad dressing which is this sweet homemade bacon dressing that comes with the salads. A family favorite also is their crab imperial but it was just okay this time around. The brisket was a bit tough. Most everything else was good, notably the spiced peaches and broccoli with cheese. They have a nice dessert selection though the servings were small. Bread pudding came about the size of a brownie. The angel food cake with berries looked really good and was about twice the size.
All in all, this is worth a trip to eat in an old style farmhouse with lots of character and things to see. They have old household items scattered around. Plus it's near Gettysburg which is scenic in its own way. Ski Liberty is fairly close too. Great for the kids ($15 for ages 6-12) but maybe check out their menu for upcoming dates of meals you want to try and you may find a great new place to come. However, if it's holiday eating you want, be sure to schedule a year in advance or you miss out which speaks for itself of this loved and cherished restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Athony H.Columbia, MD01Mar 25, 2024
We stayed at Hickory Ridge Farm March 22-23. We absolutely can't recommend this B&B more. The accommodations were immaculate, the service was 5 Star.
We were fortunate enough to stay in the country suite. Incredible it was like staying in a museum.
Dining was as incredible also, with a family style dinner that was delicious, my favorite was the chicken and broccoli and cheese. but everything was great.
Mari Lyn and the whole Heritage Farm team was absolutely fantastic.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Catherin G.Keymar, MD051Sep 26, 2023

Food is over priced for what you get. Very disappointed. Went with my family and children and everyone felt the same as me. We have no intention on ever returning. I do love the idea and service was ok. We did have to wait a while for refills so will not recommend.

This place was beautiful. I definitely understand why reservations are recommended. Food was out of this world! I'm a picky eater too but WOW . I definitely would eat here again.

This place is pretty special. It's on beautiful grounds and the restaurant is super cozy. I love the family style meal. The food was delicious. If you're a picky eater be sure to check out the fixed menu before you go. I went with my two children. Staff were kind and attentive. Between the scrumptious food and welcoming staff it felt like going back to my mama's house. Looking forward to going back.

The food here is mediocre at best. The only one of the several items we were served that could be described as "good" were the corn fritters.
The vegetables (carrots & green beans) tasted like they came directly out of cans. The turkey & ham were pretty much tasteless.
The ambience was very nice. But if the food at a restaurant is this bad, the review doesn't rise above a single star.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dave A.Greencastle, PA3827Jan 9, 2021
We have been here in the past and while it's a nice experience and atmosphere it's becoming extremely lack luster.
Tonight's was Chicken and biscuit which was a biscuit with gravy and two morsels of chicken. Is this meant to be a filler item?
This place is supposed to be family style but traditional chicken and biscuit is stacked and covered with gravy copious amounts of chicken.
The crab imperial is always the highlight for our family
but a family of 6 will find themselves rationing any of the good stuff so that everyone gets a taste and then waiting for the waitress to bring more. Use some deductive reasoning and save the micro portion family platters for parties of two and offer larger parties a bit more to get started. The crab imperial is also very filler heavy.
Overall really the food is somewhat bland and lacks any motivating qualities for wanting to go back. A little seasoning and variety goes along way.
Worth a visit? Perhaps once but this is not a place that I would recommend for a repeat visit if you are expecting to be wowed. Until the check comes that is...
If I had to sum it up, consider this Boston Market food with some decent crab imperial in a nice remodeled bars atmosphere with a novel toy train circling you as you "enjoy" the average food.
Read the review, people comment on the atmosphere which is quaint but doesn't make a complete dining experience. For $27 a person, you would be better off stopping at a nearby diner for takeout and stopping at one of the many nearby barns and asking the farm if you can have a picnic in the barn.
Up your game if you want to charge $27/person and charge extra for soda.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
