Wanted to try this place as it looked to be a nice change of pace and it was. We had the Detroit style with pepperoni and hot honey and it was pretty good. Very friendly people too. The crust was pretty crispy and it tasted very good. Pizza in CT is tough with so many good ones but being able to change it up now and then to a different style is good. We'll be back. If anything I'd probably want a little more cheese on mine.
They brought over some cannolis afterward and those were fantastic! It's definitely worth checking out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 25, 2024
This is a new pizza place serving Detroit style, "Hartford Haven Style" and Grandma Style. A restaurant industry pro told me they were worth checking out.
Hartford Pizza Garden is in the old Fiddlehead Cafe space next to Monte Alban in Hartford's West End. There is a decent sized dining room with maroon colored walls and some artistic wall decor. I'm not sure if they have full table service. I ordered a Detroit Style Pizza with sausage and green peppers in advance, and I decided to eat a couple slices there after I was done taking pictures. My pizza was ready when I expected and service was friendly.
My pizza was a well executed Detroit Style. As you likely know, Detroit Style is a thicker pizza cooked in a rectangular pan with raised sides so that the sides get crispy. The sides were fairly crispy and had good color. The undercarriage had a light golden French Fry color. The cheese was well melted. The sausage was unusual in that it was sliced thin to look like pepperoni. This took some getting used to since I'm used to a more traditional sausage crumble, but some people may prefer this. The green peppers were good. I could have used a bit more sauce because the pizza was slightly too salty in terms of flavor balance. You might consider getting a hot honey, which they have. In any event, overall, this was a good pizza and I would return to try more types.

Amazing!!!! We ordered a Detroit style pizza with Pepperoni and Hamburger. The mozerella cheese is the best I have ever had. I can't wait to try the other pizza.

Detroit was great. They admitted it was the first time they made the fig/feta but it was great. Dough was on point, very flavorful we also go the New Haven style. Taco pizza. Ingredients and spices were great. Thicker than New Haven but dough was delicious. The pizza was great. The style just isn't New Haven. Still you should go!!

Came here yesterday afternoon after hearing great reviews from a lot of my clients.. read the menu and was absolutely intrigued about the shepherd's pie Pizza. Greeted warmly by the hostess sat in the front where there was a really funky DJ spinning actual records so cool! realize quickly it was BYOB and was able to grab a beer at the bodega next door! Ordered the shepherd's pie Pizza and was completely underwhelmed and not by the fault of the chef! It was me I was a dummy I blew it what was I thinking..so.... i quickly ordered a slice of the Hartford Detroit style pepperoni and hot honey... now that was DELICIOUS! Now we're talking ! Amazing crust amazing sauce I will be back!! And the owner was so kind and realized I wasn't digging the original pie and took it off the bill!! classy!! Highly recommend this restaurant!!

We have tried two of Pizza Garden's pizzas, both New Haven style. The first, a red pie with green peppers and olives was okay, though the crust was thicker and had a less chewy texture than I usually get with thin crust pizza in other pizzerias in Hartford and New Haven. The second, the white spinach and artichoke pie, was disappointing. It had surprisingly sparse toppings and a very wide crust margin. The crust was also thicker than I'd expect from a thin crust pizza. It was like eating melted feta on a puffy flatbread. There was room for improvement.

You must try the Shepard's Pie Pizza - it is fantastic! I visited the kitchen and watched the chef work - all ingredients are fresh. Dough is formed by hand - crispy and delicious.
