CURRY SOUP BASEhappy lamb has recently introduced their new curry soup base and it's definitely a unique flavour with the meats. It's an acquired taste as it's so rich in spices but if you like that mini kick on your meat then check it out!
*
Love how they have 3 locations, the Richmond one is a la carte but still delicious.
*
I highly recommend checking out the Richmond location for their late night happy hour as the meat plates are such a steal!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Aug 18, 2021Previous reviewHOTPOT ALERT. I love hotpot doesn't matter if it's 10000 degrees or -10000 degrees outside it's something I'd never say no to. We also learned after 9pm there's happy hour where plates of lamb is only $2.99 which is a steal! Definitely coming for happy hour late night here one day!
*
Yipin fat cow ($14.99) ~ marbling on this was sooo good! It was nicely sliced and super delicious. I mean who can say no to beef?
*
Flounder fillet ($12.99) ~ if you know me well this is a must at every hotpot place! Super good in hotpot and I love the thick slices of fillet here!
*
Handmade noodles ($6.99) ~ ultra chewy! Comes in 3s and it's nice and delicious. I really liked this with the clear broth!
*
Veggie basket ($10.99) ~ came with a nice variety of veggies which I liked. It was delicious and fresh!
*
Prime short ribs ($15.99) ~ another good option for the beef! This was nice slices and it was tender too!
*
Mutton dumpling ($9.99) ~ meh I wasn't a fan of these as they were lamb dumplings. It didn't have the best flavour but overall the dumpling skin was nice and thick and the meat was juicy. (Not a dish I'd get again).
*
Soy bean milk jug ($8.99) ~ soo
Good with hotpot! Perfect sweetness to balance out the heavy hotpot!
*
Golden chicken noodle ($10.99) ~ this was good too! Lots of peanuts with the chewy noodles the chicken was nicely seasoned and it was good! I'd get this again next time!
*
Also got: Beef tripe half ($6.50), Yan noodles ($7.99), 2X clear broth ($6.99/each), tomato broth ($6.99).
*
8/10 ~ solid place for hotpot I'd come again! Plus they give you melona afterwards as a dessert!
*
7/10 ~ on the cheaper spectrum of my go to recommendation of hotpot! Portions were good and price was decently cheap! They didn't charge us sauce either! Total bill before tip; $133.75.Aug 22, 2020Previous reviewThis newly revised hotpot place is totally different now. From AYCE to a la carte fancy style has changed this place tremendously. Sauce bar ($1.99/person)with disposable gloves provided. The sauce bar is amazingly cheap here compared to various other hotpot places.
*
Wagyu beef set ($39.99) this is a must have, the presentation is great and the beef is tender and nice. Such a variety for this price, even wagyu beef cubes! The beef cooks super nicely and it was definitely tremendously tender and soft.
*
Flounder fillet ($11.99) the fillet were super thin, wish they were thicker but it came with a lot more pieces to make up for its thinness. I like how they added roe eggs on top of it because it adds a nice texture to it, best part it stays on the fish as it cooks in the hotpot!
*
Cuttlefish pasta ($12.99) this comes with 3 sets which I was obsessed with. The pasts was nice and tasted amazing with their clear broth and tomato base duo soup ($15.99) the paste was super bouncy and flavourful it's exactly what I'd look for in a fish paste.
*
Handmade noodle ($5.99) with 3 sets of noodles nice and chewy texture. The thickness is just right, tasted so good with the veggie basket ($11.99) which came with a variety of veggies.
*
Golden beef/lamb plate ($18.99) this was a nice variety the lamb and beef were nicely cut and they were tender and pretty good tasty cuts!
*
bbq lamb leg ($8.99) personally I wasn't a fan, it was dry and wasn't worth the price.
*
House made donut ($4.99) this was huge! 100% recommend it was bigger than my face! Super crispy, and soft. A bit salty but good with the soup!
*
Peach sparkling ($3.50) this was more fizzy than I expected, I don't recommend this unless you love fizzy drinks!
*
Plum juice ($8.99) you get a decent size jug of this! It was nice and strong not diluted! 100% recommend this if you like plum juice!
*
8/10 - id come back I really liked their meat set, and cuttlefish pasta! It's a must try!
*
5/10 - this place is pricy our entire bill was $171.53 before tip! But it was a nice treat! - Oct 22, 2023
Located inside/by Landsdowne Mall. Plenty of parking. It wasn't that busy when I went. This is my second time coming here.
I ordered mussels and different beef platters (this is not AYCE) some vegetables, chicken wings and the clear broth.
The service was good. Sauce area could use some cleaning up. But hey... it's meant to be messy, I guess.
Get the donut...... it's massive.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 303502095Sep 2, 2023
Love the variety of meats, veggies and broth this place offers. Loved the Tomato based soup broth and never thought I would.
Price is quite decent and meats are fresh. We ordered lamb and it tasted fresh without a heavy smell.
Service was great too.
We will be back for sureHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 1, 2023
The Richmond location of Happy Lamb chain of hotpot restaurants. Used to be called Little Sheep. It's located next the the east entrance of Lansdowne Mall. Mid size restaurant, nice decor. They have a variety of tables, some with a stove for each person, and other tables with one or more larger stoves for people to share. We had a reservation on a weekend, and waited a few minutes for our table. Restaurant was mostly full, but there wasn't a line of people waiting.
There are sauce bars at both the front and the back of the restaurant. The back sauce bar also had two dessert tray and a fruit tray with two types of fruit. In terms of appetizers/snacks at the sauce bar, they had edamame and black cloud fungi, so pretty limited selection there.
Unlike some other Happy Lamb locations, this one doesn't have an all-you-can-eat option, so it's a la cart. Didn't look into the menu in depth but most of the items you'd expect are there. Particularly they have a good number of lamb and beef cuts. We tried the "lamb brain meat" which is thick sliced lamb served on a board that supposedly comes from near the brain. Tasted pretty good. We got the non-spicy broth which was good, although you would need to add some water to drink it since the broth is salty. No complaints on the lamb, beef, seafood and shrimp paste we ordered. We also ordered their fried dough. For $9, it's pretty expensive for a fried dough, but that thing is gigantic, has a super crispy skin, and will fill up your stomach if the hotpot didn't quite do the job.
Our bill was $135 for 3 people. Overall tasted good, comparable to something like Haidilao. Probably a little cheaper than HDL, in exchange for less service, although Happy Lamb also has a robot for carrying trays. We were definitely full, especially thanks to the fried dough. They give a 10% discount for cash payment, so make sure you have some cash on hand. They have some good happy hour (before or after normal dinner hour) deals, which we didn't take advantage of.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - May 16, 2023
This place was superb .such efficient , attentive and quick service . The hotpot providing a were wonderful . Bill for 4 people will generally run you about $120. But a great experience . The robot tray server is a hoot

Our amazing friends treated us to hot pot today and we absolutely loved everything about it!
The meat was fresh and their broth was excellent! A tad too salty but that's what hot pot broth is usually is at these types of hot pot restaurants. We had a little bit of lamb and beef, some lamb skewers, lots of tofu, meatballs and fresh noodles.
The condiment/sauce station was packed with a wide selection and I loved that they had Edamame beans! They had fruits and some dessert. I had no room for free ice cream afterwards but an enjoyable mean and a very vibrant environment!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - C. H.Burnaby, Canada40217718408Apr 6, 2023
We stopped by for the happy hour beef and lamb promotion ($3.99/plate after 8 pm). Service was underwhelming. Some of the servers would avoid looking at our direction when we needed assistance.
The broth and food selection was good. I enjoyed the sauce bar as well. You get a popsicle for dessert before you leave. If you want value, the this is an okay option. However, do not expect much service.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 163831269Jun 14, 2022
We came on a Saturday for dinner. We had made reservations for 7pm but were asked to wait. We didn't wait for too long but were told that the next available table was for the individual hotpot section and not the shared section (what is the point of making reservations if this is by next available table).
Tip: when you make reservations specify what kind of table you want or they will force you to go to the single hotpot tables (higher price as you need to order individual hot pots but shorter wait time)
On to the food.
We ordered the hot soup, tomato soup and clear broth. All were not bad. The hot soup isn't very hot so if you want it hotter don't order medium spice. The tomato soup had strong and sour tomato flavours.
The lamb skewers were pretty delicious and we can see why they are a popular item. Very tender and well seasoned. Would recommend ordering medium spicy (not too spicy).
Don't get the australian lamb and beef plate. For the meats, I would recommend getting the yipin fat cow. It gives you the most bang for your buck. The flavour is better than the beef short rib.
We also got the shrimp paste and the ball platter. Both worth getting as they taste like freshly made balls. Very bouncy and delicious
The handmade noodles are also worth getting as they are fresh noodles. They soak up the broth well and great for finishing your dinner.
Overall the service is mediocre but the food is okay. The price can get quite steep if you aren't careful about ordering. Would recommend you get the yipin fat cow, handmade noodles, shrimp paste, ball platter. For the soup base would recommend medium to hot spicy soup. I actually came for the cat robot but only got a glimpse of it once (it usually comes with your first order so get your pictures in then).Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 13, 2022
Great deal for hotpot if you come during their happy hour! At least for now, from 1:30-4, you can get 32% off all food orders. I don't know how long they'll have this promotion around for, so check with them if you're not sure.
My group of 4 came for a late lunch at 2:30, and because of the happy hour, it was super packed even then. Definitely make reservations before coming!
You can either choose to share a pot (whole or split) among your group or do individual pots. We chose to do individual as everyone wanted a different broth. I went with the original clear broth and liked it (though it started tasting a bit too bitter and salty near the end...), but I tried the tomato broth and liked that as well. All broths are $8.99.
We ordered a ton of meat and veggies to share. Everything was very fresh and presentation was good. Your orders are served by a cute little robot that comes right up to your table. My personal favorites were the wagyu beef ($25.99), the shrimp paste ($14.99), the mixed mushrooms ($10.99), and the handmade noodles ($5.98).
The sauce bar is all DIY with plenty of options, including a leek sauce that I've never seen before at any other restaurant. In addition, you can help yourself to free unlimited servings of fruit (it was orange slices and honeydew on the day we came), edamame, black woodear fungus, and some other desserts. They do charge $2 pp for the dessert/sauce bar, but I thought it was worth it.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Wayne T.Los Angeles, CA652114Nov 10, 2023
The attitude of the telephone receptionist is very unfriendly; so much so that she convinces me not to dine there. The management should find a more friendly person to answer the phone.
