We believe it shouldn't be hard to find cute and imaginative items for children. We focus on easy to wear, well made clothes that parents and kids both enjoy. We even offer a nice selection of organic clothes as well as several lines of American made clothes. We strive to make sure our toys are non-toxic, fun and promote imagination and learning. Our book selection is our biggest pride and joy; featuring many of our old favorites as well as some new ones. We love our customers and want to make sure your visit is a great one. We'd love to help you find that "special something" and even offer free gift wrapping. We are a small team of gals running this operation.Remember, if there was something in the store you really love - give us a call (503-335-3131) and we'll try our best to make it yours.

This is the best kids shop- they have such a great selection of items, from clothing to books and toys, and something for every age. The level of quality is definitely present in everything they carry and their selection is much more curated and special, with still so much to choose from for all different budgets. The clothing options are so great and I could have spent all day looking at the different books they had. The two women working tonight were equally wonderful in helping me pick out a few gift items, and I would most definitely recommend this shop to anyone shopping for kids items. Happy to spend money here and support a local business!

Oh boy they have the sweetest toys! I wanted to buy everything! I have a 3 month old so I'll be back often. I managed to leave with only 4 small toys, but still spent almost $70. So it's pricey but the products are mostly local, handcrafted, or natural materials. You get what you pay for.

This place is cute. Have a nice selection of toys and clothing. It's your typical cute little independent Portland toy shop. Nothing super special about it. I do love that it's woman-owned.
But really...they need to up their babyproofing game. I witnessed a young toddler fall and bang her temple against the corner of one of their shelves. The toddler was not running around like an unruly child. The toddler had a whole family of grandparents and parents (and I think an uncle) who were actually paying attention to her. I happened to be close to her as well but unfortunately wasn't close enough to grab her when she fell and banged her face (maybe it was her head...temple to be exact?) on the corner of one of their bottom shelves.
The child was simply walking with one of those pull toys and tripped.
The little one was wailing in distress, tears galore... and the family looked frightened. Even I was frightened I didn't even know the kid.
The person at the counter while the child was wailing in pain asked, "Is she okay?"
Come on now...the child was WAILING. Clearly not okay. That was a hard, very unpleasant fall that could've taken her eye out had she had worse luck.
The mother asked if they had ice and the answer was a quick, "No we don't."
I don't know. It just seemed kind of harsh. There was no apology. Maybe an apology would be admitting fault. Liability? Dunno.
But if they're worried about liability, they should probably babyproof their bottom shelves at least. Or modify the shelves so that the corners aren't so sharp.
Hope they make this change and actually address this issue. Let's see if they choose safety over style. Babyproofing isn't pretty...but injuries aren't pretty either.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Beth E.Portland, OR01Oct 8, 2021
By FAR the best toy store in Portland. I make a trip here every time we come to Portland to visit my family. I'm a born and raised Oregonian and proud of this little store with so many colorful treasures!

Considering that overnight, everyone around me is having babies, I like having a local neighborhood children's store option. Decent selection of items for various ages, but it's been hard for me to find good baby gifts here. I was looking for cute clothes not made in China and was disappointed in the selection. I had to go elsewhere to find a gift.

I have a son that was born locally and whenever his grandmother comes to visit from out of town she always comes into the store wanting to buy him something. We always walk out disappointed.
We always love the idea of supporting local businesses but this one seems to exclude itself from the common people by only having exclusive toys and over priced items. Which is fine for those who do not want to go to the big toy stores and want something different.
Most times we have been in, the staff always seem to be chatting to themselves and not giving the customers much attention.
My view is toys stores should be fun and you should come out with something every time you go in.
The upside is that you can go to petit Provence next-door for a pastry before or after.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry you feel like we don't offer products for "the common people". We have been in business in the neighborhood for over 13 years and really strive to offer fun, unique and well made products for all budgets. We have a large selection of products (from pull-back toys to art supplies to games and lots in between!) that are under $10. We have a play area by our book section with a variety of toys for children to play with, and also have lots of demo toys through out the shop to make the experience fun for kids as well as adults. We train our staff to be helpful and attentive so I'm disappointed to hear you did not experience that and will be addressing it with them. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you stop by again soon.

Found this adorable shop while we were exploring the neighborhood in the Alberta Arts District. The staff was friendly and helpful. I ended up getting this really cute and unique Moulin Roty wooden musical box! I'll be back next time I'm in Portland!

Such a sweet little kids store. There is a large number of books, lots of toys and a respectable selection of clothing & shoes. While it is certainly not as large as my favorite shop on the west side it is most certainly worth a visit. They also gift wrap. I'll be back.

I really like this store. Albeit my kids are now too old for most of the merchandise, whenever I need a present for a wee family or friend's child, this is one of the two stores I like to hit. They have beautiful, cute clothes, funky toys and always a great selection.
The owner / salesperson is super friendly and helpful.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - S. D.Portland, OR0217154Jun 30, 2007
Grasshopper is a charming boutique featuring a creative selection of children's books, toys, clothing and games. The store is bright, spacious and airy with displays that are well thought out and very easy to navigate.
If you're at a loss for an idea for a special gift for a small child or baby, the staff is very helpful and filled with creative ideas that are fun to wrap up and give so your present will be the life of the party.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
