Q:
Is this place kids friendly?
A:
Yes, but it's a little loud for young kids, the food itself can be kid friendly, but it's a rather busy and loud hot spot. I would say yes for sure in the afternoon before prime dining hours
Darran W.1 year ago 2 people found this helpfulQ:
What time does dinner service begin?
A:
They told me 3pm. So that's when I made the reservation for, but don't suggest that as they sat us in the downstairs area without the view. Instead of upstairs with the good view. Make later if possible.

came here for my husband's birthday dinner. we were both starving and quite excited at the prospect of a great meal. the restaurant seemed pretty dark. No ambient lighting, just kind of dark. no big deal. They started us off with some complementary proseco which was very nice. We ordered a few starters and I ordered a dirty martini which was very good. The starters were meh. the Italian chopped salad was very vinegary. the crab and avocado parfait was pretty bland. the worst part was the prosciutto and mozzarella - the mozzarella was fizzy. which means it was off. the server didn't come to check on us for a long long time. when the person clearing the plates came and asked if he can clear we asked him to tell the server that the mozzarella was off. The server came and and apologized and took it away and and said he would strike it off our bill. main was nice. steak. fries. side of mushrooms. We picked tiramisu for dessert. it was ok, not bad. it came to the table with a candle. pretty unceremonious. the bill came and it was over $300 and the expired mozzarella dish was not taken off the bill. The server said he 'had six things going on on so' and only then struck it off. all in all disappointing for such a well to do establishment. we chose it because it was a special occasion and it was very underwhelming. pity.

Love this place and would highly recommend! Came here for brunch and both the view and food were amazing.
We had the charred octopus, spicy rigatoni, and the 7-year aged acquerello risotto - and loved every single dish! We also had a cappuccino & a melon spritz as drinks which are both delicious.
We came on a Sunday and were lucky enough to get the window seat with the river view. The service was impeccable since we walked into the restaurant and our server was particularly friendly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 26, 2024
Came here with a group as a celebratory event. The decor is very nice and you get a so-so view of the city depending on where you're sitting. Positives:
Our waiter was very friendly, attentive, and personable.
The focaccia bread was excellent. Warm with a nice ricotta butter and balsamic sauce.
The cacio e pepe was rich, creamy, and cheesy.
The beet salad was amazing - hearty, juicy, and fresh.
Negatives:
The main courses were very underwhelming. My salmon was dry and tasteless. Vegetables tasted unseasoned.
The filet mignon was cooked nicely but bland.
The dressing on the asparagus tasted like mayonnaise and didn't go well together.
The chicken parmagiana had an off flavor that was very unappealing.
The potato puree was nothing special and was similar to regular mashed potatoes.
For a restaurant of this caliber, you'd think they would know how to create unique recipes with delicious food.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2Business owner information

First time visit for birthday celebration. My expectations were high based on so many recommendations.
Service was great. We had Elizabeth and she made the experience really enjoyable.
We had several dishes and notably the NY Strip was good, and the potatoes were excellent!
Overall, go for the views which are spectacular on a clear day. If you can request a table by the window definitely go for it!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

I recommend a reservation but there are sometimes open tables in the bar area that are first come first serve. This restaurant is beautiful and the service is always spectacular.
Every dish is cooked to perfection and wonderfully seasoned, you cannot go wrong with any of the dishes. The drinks are always exactly what you need after a long day. A cappuccino or an old fashion, you will not be disappointed. Do yourself a favor and try the apple and pumpkin buddino for dessert and thank me later.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Wow. Couldn't have been a more spectacular night. Gibsons is the cream of the crop, we decided to give Gibsons Italia a spin and we were blown away. Attentive and caring staff from start to finish. The menu is somewhat extensive and we were indecisive, our waiter helped us find a few selections that we must try. We opted for more of the Italian experience over steaks.
Bourbon selection was fantastic - I opted for a pour of their Weller 107 barrel pick, which was ridiculously good.
Apps we tried:
-Arancini were delicious but not sure if I'd order again as we had so much to eat and the other apps were the best
-Focaccia bread and ricotta is a must order.
-Meatballs were some of the best I've ever had. Also a must order. Very hearty and zesty.
Mains:
-Chicken Parmesan - huge cut of chicken, we split this and ordered 2 separate pastas. I believe this also came with a small side of the spicy rigatoni which was to die for.
-Spaghettini & meatballs - usually I don't order this but after having the meatballs appetizer I had to have more. The pasta was so good and is comparable to the feel of pasta you might get in Italy.
-Cacio E Pepe - my wife ordered this, looked great. She also complimented that the pasta was premium quality and handmade.
Overall a fantastic night. The layout of the restaurant is amazing with fantastic views over the river. Gibsons Italia is a must visit for anyone who comes to Chicago.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alexandra Y.Chicago, IL811695May 15, 2024
Amazing!! This place has multiple floors for dining. The second floor has the bar and some tables and the third floor is the main restaurant floor. The views anywhere you sit are amazing, especially at sunset. Waiter was very nice and attentive. It was a little bit loud on the second floor for a Tuesday night. The foccaccia was delicious, so fluffy and came with whipped ricotta. The meatballs had good flavor but were a little dry. The spicy rigatonni was so good and spicier than you would think for an Italian restaurant but was the perfect level of spice for me. Will definitely be coming back!

First time here and the vibe, the drinks and the food are spot on! Taylor, our bartender on the second floor, was absolutely amazing. Great recommendations for both food and drink along with great conversation.
We had the King crab, the meatballs and the steak tartare! All three excellent choices. The smokiness of the tartare and the texture - hands down probably the best I've had!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica T.San Diego, CA0114123May 19, 2024
We were looking to have a special dinner for our last night in Chicago and Gibson Italia was recommended by our Lyft driver. What a wonderful evening!! Delicious! Great view! Impeccable service and staff!

Lovely place for a special occasion, to bring visitors, or just for a fancy night out! I came here with family visiting from out of town. Although the food and drinks were fantastic, the showstopper is the view of the skyline from the dining room. We were seated in a beautiful raised booth towards the back of the dining room, but the floor is tiered so we were slightly higher than the rest of the room and were still able to appreciate the amazing view. The food speaks for itself, and there is something for every taste. We enjoyed a seafood platter, a famous Gibson's filet, a couple different pasta dishes, and the tiramisu for dessert. Our server was welcoming and helpful. Fantastic and special night out with the best company.

This was our first time here, but our friends who live in Chicago absolutely love it, so we decided to go here for dinner. We were able to grab a couple drinks at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. We were sat shortly after and had an amazing view from the booth we were in.
Our server was really prompt, kind and knowledgeable. We decided to try a variety of things to start. We ordered the East Coast oysters on a half show, meatballs and focaccia. They we all pretty good, my favorite by far was the bread. Super yummy!
For our entrée, we decided to share the tomahawk ribeye and get the spicy rigatoni pasta. I really like the presentation of the tomahawk, but we ordered it medium rare and the steak was very extremely under. We kept it because we didn't wanna keep our friends from eating. The rigatoni was good, but not out of this world. Feel like it could have use some more flavor or kick to it.
My friend ordered the risotto with scallops. I would say that was absolutely amazing and next time I would probably order that instead.
Overall it was pretty good and would be open to trying something else on the menu next time we go.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
