People working are incredibly rude. We asked a simple question and felt like we were bothering them. The lanes are not oiled as the claim. I understand it's only $4 a person but sad to say it's not even worth that.

I went there in February 2018 on a date and I can say this place is a dump. It's run just the way it appears on the outside. The management is rude and they don't seem to want to be bothered by anyone they don't know. It's a shame that Mr. Fry's legacy has been so tarnished under the management of son in law Lee. They have not invested one cent in upkeep or updates in the last 25 years. They don't have electronic scoring. The shoes are old and worn out. The bathrooms are filthy. Then there is the food, when you can get it, it is beyond sub par. I don't know how you can screw up a hot dog but they sure know how to do it. They actually ran out of ketchup, who does this ?
Service with a scowl. Go to foxfire in kannapolis instead.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lindsay S.Raleigh, NC331515677Feb 13, 2012First to Review
When Dave and Buster's was a bust, we took my sister's party to Frye's Lake Lanes to celebrate her birthday on Saturday, February 11th! Two very different places, but I'd say this one was definitely far better.
A gravel parking lot and dimly lit area, but not because it's ghetto or anything like that -- it's just completely lacking in any pretenses. Across the parking lot is a roller rink for those who have interest in that. We walked in to a really loud place so that had us wary for a second. The guy behind the counter seemed a little ruff around the edges in his black t-shirt with his spikey hair, tattooed neck and arms, gruff voice, but he was just matter of fact business mode.
Shoe rental $2. $3.25 per game for each person. They were short on shoes and my size 8 was not only a little loose, but couldn't lace up all the way. Oh well. After setting my stuff down I made my way to the concessions counter because I was hungry! I ordered a hot dog, fries, and a soda. The hot dog was only $1.95 and was really good although a bummer since they were out of ketchup for the dog and fries. My total for all three things came to $5.05 though! The girl behind the counter was slow to cook, but very sweet and my dog and fries came out tasting gooood. They hit the spot too.
We had a good old time bowling although there was a bit of competiton between us and some of the other locals' honky tonk country music. Everyone was friendly though so it was no biggie even if we out-of-towners seemed a little out of place. The 13 of us had a blast nonetheless!
Pros: Not too crowded thus creating a very personal atmosphere
Pick your own music from the juke box
Super Cheap Bowling AND food
Easygoing
Friendly Service
Cons: No alcohol
No machines to help you with your score
Cash not accepted at concessions
Shortage of shoe selection
Food/drinks selection is limited. On any day they could be out of anything from condiments to burgersHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Corinne L.Harrisburg, NC50111Jan 30, 2018
I went to Fryes On January 27th with my 5 grandchildren and sister to have a fun bowling experience with my grandchildren, upon entering there were 4 other people bowling and a women and her son behind the counter. This women told us she would help us in a minute ( she was reading a book) While we waited about 3 minutes she finished reading put her book down and very abruptly asked us what we wanted ( of course we wanted to rent shoes and bowl) she acted as if we were bothering her. After I paid for the shoe rental, I asked her where the balls for children would be, she rudely again answered me, then I asked if the grill was open , which again another of my questions seemed to bother her, she said no, I asked if we could get drinks which she said yes and as I was asking her what was offered she told me again very rudely ( by this time I was ready to leave but did not want to disappoint the children) when I asked her if we could purchase the drinks now, she said when she got a chance she would let us know. We went to our lane and I went back up to purchase our drinks and had to wait while she again finished reading. If this women prefers to read and treat paying customers so rudely she needs to stay at home! When I googled Frye's Lanes that morning it said grill was open and a great family atmosphere , well let me tell you that is a LIE !! I spent over $50.00 and will never go back again!! I will definitely tell everyone I know the type of service that we received and not to go there. Thank you for ruining a family afternoon !! Next time will definitely go to the "bigger bowling alleys" instead of a older locally owned one . Very very disappointed !!! We did spill a drink and when I told her she very very rudely scolded me as if I was a child ( 60yrs old) children do have accidents ! This is not a friendly family place to enjoy spending time together . People bowl elsewhere if you want to enjoy yourselves and your family . This place gets a 3 rating on retro decor and a 1 rating for service

This is bowling at its roots. No fancy light show. No theatrics. Theres a few arcade games and a jutebox. You keep score youself. Its true bowling. My daughter loves it. If you want to bowl and show your kids what is truly about rather then go for the blacklights and disco scene. This is the place to do it. Good prices and alot of fun. We are happy to be able to share it with our child. We have been going there for meny years.

This is literally the worst bowling alley I've ever been to! For one it looks like an old, dilapidated, run down hangout that no one goes to. The whole time we were there no one came in (and for a good reason). We had to keep our own score by hand and the shoes were filthy! That's just the beginning! The employees were the most rude people I had ever met. I walked in with my 2 year old daughter, cousin, aunt, mother, and brother, and when my mom asked the employee if they had the little ramps children use to help them bowl the man said, "those are ONLY for handicapped people." My mom said "we have a 2 year old" and he dared to say, "well she's too young to play anyways" and charged her for shoes and a game. Needless to say when I told my mother I wasn't going to bowl just help my daughter the man said, "well you cannot go out and help without our shoes on and if I see you walk out on that floor I'm charging you. I'll watch you the whole time." I was astonished. Not only was my 2 year old too young to bowl anyways, he was charging me to help her. As I was helping my mom pay and get shoe sizes a heard a man sitting on his lazy can yell, "GET OFF THAT FLOOR!" Hatefully to my daughter and cousin who was helping her get off so she wouldn't fall. These men were the most hateful people I've ever met! We asked for help one time for pins that were stuck and they hesitated getting off their cans. This was the first time my daughter or cousin has ever been bowling before and it was a train wreck! I will never go back!!!! I recommend to anyone looking for a good bowling alley to avoid this ghetto place and go to foxfire lanes in kannapolis!! It's worth a few cents more and much more remodeled and clean equipment! In addition the employees at foxfire lanes are SOOOOO much more friendly! Don't waste you time, money, and sanity at fryes! You'll be very disappointed!
