I visited El Rey with lowish expectations, but must say that I was pleasantly surprised on my visit! I came in at dinnertime on a week day and we grabbed a seat outside on the patio since it was a nice day. The patio wasn't huge and is located at the front of the restaurant, but it was nice to enjoy some fresh air. The chips and salsa are the cornerstone of every good Mexican restaurant, so I was excited when it came out and was a nice recipe, complete with cilantro and good sized pieces of white onion (which I love). Great consistency and flavor. We were waiting on two guests, so we ordered a top shelf pitcher of margaritas with Don Julio. The glasses came out chilled and at first I was a bit nervous with the margarita color because it was a bright orange. Upon further analysis, I believe the margarita mix was made with fresh juices instead of the typical neon green biohazard that most Mexican restaurants serve. While the batch was a sweeter than I prefer, I did appreciate that it was actually fresh. Since I'd been snacking on chips, I ordered light and had an a la carte bean burrito with red sauce on top. It was one of the best that I've had in a long time. The sauce was perfect and the beans were really nice. I will definitely be back to visit El Rey Azteca when I'm craving solid Mexican food!

I moved from the neighborhood of Bellevue TN and closer to Madison. My wife and I stumbled upon this Mexican restaurant and we've eaten there every week since.

They are fast, fairly priced and they serve good portions. I have nothing bad to report. My wife loves the shrimp tacos and most recently I get the Fajitas Texas. Good food and service.

Enchilada and Chalupa combo. They Don Julio was just icing on the cake.

The worst Mexican food I've ever tried to eat. The rice and beans smelled like dirty socks, and didn't taste much better. Chili Relleno should NOT be made with canned white cheese, and should NOT contain ground beef. The Tamale was inedible processed masa filed with...ground beef. I'm from Los Angeles where great Mexican food can be found in the tiniest hole in the wall place. El Rey Azteca is over done, and underwhelming.

Stopped here while on a trip. Horrible service. The waiter walked away while taking our order to bus tables! No salsa refill. Didn't get what I ordered. Thankfully will never have to come here again.
