December 2023: They have opened new restaurant at 800 Milwaukee Avenue in South Milwaukee - brand new as of mid-December.
My wife had an excellent lamb dish, and I had a bowl of "Seven Seas Soup." The quality of the food was excellent, and serving sizes were generous. Service was great, too. It's clear that the staff wants this to be a family-friendly restaurant.
Why do I give this business a "5-Star" rating? My standards are set by my experience, 45 years ago, of spending six weeks working (as an electrical engineer) in San Luis Potosà City (in central Mexico) with a group of French engineers. The French guys had high standards regarding the restaurants that we patronized. With few exceptions (soups etc.), the food's flavorings always relied on spices that were NOT "hot."
Our food at "El Local+2" matched what I enjoyed during that six-week engineering trip. Excellent!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elizabeth W.Ladora, IA01Jan 25, 2024
Went for weekday lunch and were the only people there. Surprising because the food was good. We had the ceviche which was fresh, tasty and generously portioned. The sopa and pork stew were also good. I saw one of their whole fried fish being plated and it looked and smelled delicious. I will try that next time.

Here you'll find tasty food prepared with care and excellent service. The Siete Mares soup is huge! It's enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (+for your friends to try). My companions love seafood and they enjoyed the huge chunks of seafood in the soup.
The tacos are lovely. Tripa, chorizo, and al Pastor were the favorites of the five we tried. Served as they should be, with cilantro, onion, and lime.
Oh! The salsa served with the chips is packed with flavor. I had to get two bowls!
Parking is a breeze with lots of street parking available. A good choice for authentic Mexican food in Milwaukee!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 28, 2015
I went here for lunch today. Parking was easy right in front of the place. I walked in and didn't if I could sit anywhere so I stood at the door. After looking around I could see four women and none of them would acknowledge me standing there. After five minutes a woman tried to walk past me and I said excuse me can I sit any where and she had to get another woman to help me. Are they serious or am I invisible.
After getting seated I was given chips and salsa and a menu. I posted pictures of the menu. The menu is very large and is a lot to take in. I ordered the Sesena dinner and realized my server never offered me any water so I had to asked for a glass of water.
The food came in like four minutes, I just finished my fourth chip and the food was there. The chips and salsa were good and I would have liked the salsa a little chunkier. The main dish looked amazing, see the pictures. I took a taste of all the food before I started building tortillas. The steak was not seasoned and bland. The beans were bland also. I started building my corn tortillas with all the goodies and realized the salsa was better than the hot sauce. They don't give a lot of beans, just enough for a light spread for three tortillas and it's gone.
When I was done I asked for a box for the left overs and to let my server know I was ready to leave, ten minutes later still no check. By the way the place had only four tables in service. Luckily the booth behind me came to life so I asked for the check while she walked past and she said in a minute. She came back to the booth behind me a second time and still no check WTF. The meal was just under $10.
Overall the food was average and nothing wowed me at all. There are better Mexican places in Milwaukee. The service was horrible over all and I spent more time waiting for service than the time I spent eating. This is the chance you take when trying a new place when known great places exist.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Gerard T.Milwaukee, WI110136462Feb 20, 2017
Came here for lunch with co-workers for authentic Mexican cuisine. I was first introduced to them by my colleague a few years ago. She brought our team some of the best fresh and delicious tasting soft shell steak tacos :) they were fresh, seasoned well, and fulfilling.
Lunch time was pretty laid back. We had about 6 ppl in our group. I decided to order the vegetarian tacos which included avocado, nopales (cactus), lettuce, cheese, salsa, etc.. It isn't on the menu, but they let me make my own vegetarian taco based off my food restrictions at the time. The tacos were absolutely delish, crunchy, seasoned well. I almost didn't miss not having meat.. definitely would order again, another colleague decided to order, the chicken Chimichanga with rice and beans. He said it was super fulfilling with lots of chicken and it was seasoned well. Prices were very reasonable. El Local is a hidden gem if you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine with cheap to moderate prices for their lunch and entree specials. I will definitely be back in the near future!!!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Linda B.Milwaukee, WI03Aug 7, 2020
Tacos Are simply amazing. Never been disappointed. The other food I've had was nothing to special. I've tried there chalupa which was soggy and had there enchiladas which was ok. If you want tacos Definitely go here! I also always have my meals to go and there ready very quickly. 10 min or less

Alright, this place is freakin' awesome!!! So I love Mexican and authentic at that so seeing things like tongue and tripe on the menu really caught my eye. Plus a coworker said this was legit so had to check out.
I will say this as some people feel they got ignored and waited a long time. The workers may not fully understand English and may ask other people for help. While some people have issues with this, I certainly don't and don't think something like this makes or breaks a meal.
With that being said, I got the chorizo, carne asada, and poblano pepper and was high impressed. For the amount of meat is beyond awesome and the flavor was spot on. The pepper was fantastic and the asada was spot on. Lots of flavor and huge size.
When the bill came between my coworker and I we had 5 tacos and a drink ( and added avacodo) and we paid $11 bucks. Seriously, $11 bucks. That is some of the best food for the money no doubt and I will be returning soon!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Cliff E.Milwaukee, WI022Dec 8, 2015
Best burrito de carne asada in town!
I make a weekly pilgrimage to this place.
I call ahead and 10 minutes later I've got a great meal for less than $6.00 waiting for me. When family and friends visit I take them there and they're jealous I've got this place so close to me.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David N.Seattle, WA915Feb 18, 2018
The best restaurant in Nosara in a sea of great places to eat. The Risotto was exquisite! The curry chicken salad was also delicious.
