I've visited twice and there is a reason it's listed as one of the best restaurants in Dallas.
The service and ambiance is nothing short of incredible and everything I've had here has been absolutely delicious.
Pictured is the:
- Duck Masa - their home-made masa is soo good
- Pork al Pastor with pineapple butter - you make little tacos with it using their tortillas and this is the best thing I've had! A must order!
- Beets with grapefruit - surprisingly so good and I loved the base
- Buenos Deseos drink - tasted like a piña colada in the best way
- Brisket & Crab Cake One Hitters
- Key Lime Guava Dessert - this is their version of a key lime pie and it's amazing
also I can't forget to mention the veggies served with tajin and chamoy as their version of chips and salsa. This was so good and I loved the spin!
Their menu changes fairly often so I can't wait to return and try more of their dishes!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alex N.McKinney, TX71168Apr 22, 2024
Ssoooo meaty. Came here a while ago with some friends and we went pretty hard. We had a previous iteration of the menu, so i'll try to remember what we ordered:
El Machete - This was a really great dish, and the portion size was pretty big.
Wagyu picanha - Served nicely charred and a beautiful medium rare.
Bone-in porkchop - I never pass on a pork chop, and their pastor version of it was top notch.
There was more than enough food here for three guys, and these dishes were all served with some fresh corn tortillas.
Service was great as well, as were the cocktails.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 973741Apr 11, 2024
I loved the interior and vibe of the restaurant. It was intimate and cozy.
We started off with one hitters which is basically appetizer but one per person which was an interesting but nice concept. I had the brisket which has a blast of different flavors.
For main course we ordered pork al pastor and tamarind halibut. Pork with the sauce and butter rolled in their in house mesa was amazing.
The halibut tasted fresh and the favors were just amazing.
I definitely recommend this place as it is not the typical Dallas fancy restaurant where you go to click pictures. I'm going back because the food and service were amazing.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 4964061161May 18, 2024Updated review
I'd only been here once before as part of a large group event, but this time was special as it was just 4 of us and we got to really get a better experience of the restaurant. The waiters seated us at a nice little table with a lounge area nearby. Our main server got to know each of us by name and really was so friendly and wonderful. The food was fantastic! I forget what drink I got, but it was delicious. Highlights of the dinner were the little appetizer dishes--such fun little bite size snacks, made well!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 5, 2023Previous reviewOkay I don't even know what was ordered--someone was picking for our large group, but everything was so phenomenal I was so happy with this meal. Some big highlights were the Caesar salad (so much flavor!), the salmon poke (so fresh, so good), the greens (I forgot what it was called, but vegetables have never tasted so good), the fish (so incredibly flaky and flavorful), and the chicken (mind blowingly tender and flavorful, I will never find a better chicken than this dish!!). Absolutely obsessed with this place now. Great interior, we were in a nice private room for our big group of 15+. Servers were so great and friendly and attentive.

Came here with a group of gals on a Sunday evening and we had an amazing time! There's parking available but they do offer valet. They accept RSVPs but we were able to walk in and a table was available. The customer service from the time we arrived until we left was immaculate! Our waiter answered questions thoroughly and recommended the best options for us.
I ended up ordering a Gran Manzana due to the Buffalo Trace Bourbon as it's my favorite. The drink was so delicious I ordered another one! Would definitely recommend trying it out. For food, I ordered a Surf + Turf one hitter and it was an amazing small bite to get you started with your meal! I then ordered the Carne Asada (medium) and this was definitely a great choice. The meat was tender - juicy and it came with corn tortillas and nopales. The salsa for this dish was delicious was well! I also sampled the Pork Al Pastor, Duck Confit, and Tijuana Caesar and they all were equally as good as my order!
Overall, I would definitely return to try out more of their food items and drinks. This was a really good experience!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 16, 2024Updated review2 check-ins
Another exceptional experience at El Carlos Elegante! This restaurant has become a solid must-do for me when in Dallas!
From my first visit to the most recent, El Carlos Elegante continues to excel in every area and is truly one the best dining experiences in Dallas. It's beautifully designed and with each visit, I look forward to fresh, new flavor experiences for three key reasons - the menu continually evolves, seasonal ingredients are incorporated and the occasional, surprise opportunity to taste off-menu/in-development items.
The El Carlos Elegante team provides a refreshing (and consistent) experience where you immediately feel 'at home' when you're welcomed to the restaurant. MJ provided another exceptional service experience, remembering me by name, my family and even dietary restrictions to best guide us through the menu. We came for a birthday celebration, and MJ was the key ingredient that made our time at El Carlos Elegante special and memorable! Thank you, MJ!
My menu faves this visit...
- Surf & Turf (One Hitter Must-Have!)
- Caesar Salad (This is NOT your average Caesar Salad...don't pass it up on the menu. Order and enjoy!)
- Salmon Ceviche
- Refried LentilsHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Oct 15, 2023Previous reviewDecided to try this place when a family member raved about their experience just a few weeks prior. From the time we arrived to the time we left, the experience was nothing shy of pure excellence. Everyone, and I mean everyone working that was visible spoke and welcomed us to the restaurant. We felt special before I even got to our table.
The restaurant is tucked away in the design district, and doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you enter, you feel at home. It has a very warm, romantic and inviting feel to it. The detail in just the decor, look and feel of the restaurant is quite impressive.
Our server greeted us with a smile, and contagious energy. I loved that she asked our names and used our names through our entire dining experience. I could tell that MJ had a lot of passion for what she does and what the restaurant is about. She did a wonderful job of sharing what makes the restaurant unique like grinding the corn that comes straight from Mexico in house which is about 100 hours worth of work to make the tortillas and the masa to the fresh ingredients that are used. They do an amazing job of taking care of people with food allergies or intolerance which I really love as it is hard to have a great dining experiences at most places when it's mentioned to the server.
We tried a few cocktails, a few dishes from the menu and a dessert. Everything, and I mean everything we had was a flavor bomb. The menu is so thoughtful and the dishes are quite beautiful with excellent presentation. We learned that the menu changes from time to time but if you get a chance to go, I highly recommend the surf and turf and the bone in pork chop.
I learned that the restaurant is just 10 months old, however I could definitely see this one will quickly become a very popular place to dine. This is an excellent choice for date night or special occasion but if you are a foodie like me, any occasion is a great reason to stop in. I highly recommend making a reservation as they do fill up quickly. Valet and street parking is available. Valet works for tips so tip them well.
I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. I do not believe there is anything that comes close in all of the DFW area. If they continue the excellent service and food quality, they should easily get an award for top new restaurants in Dallas. - Feb 28, 2024
Down in the design district, and a bit hidden, this spot is cozy Mexico City charm. The bar area is intimate and the dining is divided into separate areas to keep that quaint and cozy feel.
Food: omg the chicken. Absolutely delicious and juicy in a way chicken never is. This is more than basic. The duck was delightful and full of flavor. While they said the dishes were more to split, between two people we took home some of each so I would say generous portions.
Service: great service at the bar, very attentive. But I believe our servers got mixed up at the table and then the service got a bit disjointed.
Area: while the restaurant is great, the surrounding area can be a bit sketchy late at night. Think about taking an Uber down and getting dropped right at the restaurant door.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - 043102Apr 4, 2024
Beautiful restaurant and amazing service. For me, the food was a miss unfortunately. The stone crab claws were delicious, the Surf and Turf and Okra and Shishitos were so salty to the point where we couldn't finish them. The squash tetela didn't have much flavor. For the price, we left a bit hungry and unsatisfied, but I would try again.

Wow what an experience at Carlos. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance takes over. From the cozy fireplace to the cactus decoration, the interior really sets the mood.
The menu offering is really eccentric here, we definitely had to ask the server for some assistance. She was incredibly friendly and patient, helped us select a good assortment of dishes.
Some highlights include: El Machete, the perfect sharable masa plate; wagyu NY strip, with an insane carrot mole & the cauliflower, with a sprinkle of chorizo. Do note the 'one-hitter' choices are quite literal: they're one or two bites each.
Overall it was a fun experience. This is the perfect place for people who want to try a spin on Mexican cuisine.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 1, 2023
We've been to a few restaurants in the Duro hospitality group, so we were so excited to try El Carlos Elegante. There is complimentary valet parking outside but there are spaces to park outside as well.
The interior is beautifully decorated and has a good amount of seating while also feeling cozy. There's a bar in the middle of the restaurant which you could sit at as well. When we went early Saturday night it wasn't too busy but picked up by the time we left. All the foods are meant to be shared family style.
We ordered cocktails for the table which were amazing! Complimentary starter was small slices of apple which wasn't my favorite but had nice flavor. They have one hitters for $7 each, which were just small one bite foods that you could try. They were tasty and definitely packed a good amount of flavor.
For veggies, we ordered cauliflower and shishito peppers for the table to share. The peppers weren't too hot and was mixed in with okra. The cauliflower surprisingly was was one of my favorite dishes of the night as it had a sauce and nice variation of textures and crunch. For main foods we ordered the wagyu beef which came with tortillas. Thought that it was a hard dish to eat with tortillas and would've preferred it on its own, but still cooked well nonetheless! The pork was well cooked and had pineapple butter which complimented the pork well. Also ordered the chorizo masa which had handmade corn tortillas and was tasty too.
Overall enjoyed our experience here, but enjoyed the other restaurants in the Duro group better! Would still be back for a nice meal or date night.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
