1st time here and I'm so glad I tried it. They only have 2-3 tables so it's more of a takeout place. We ordered the fried pork with white rice n bean with fried sweet plantains. We also ordered the shaved beef plate with white beans n rice and plantains. The beans were deliciously flavored.
The empanadas were so tasty and made fresh, ordered one beef one chicken. They came with a cream sauce but I asked for the red spicy sauce as well.
Pro tip: order ahead as they get busy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 865372130Dec 28, 2023Updated review
Whaat? Consistency is key and this restaurant definitely consistently serves absolutely amazingly seasoned food! Service is very friendly and personal. Ambiance is very cozy, typical hidden gem in the neighborhood.
Third time here in 3 weeks - this time I ordered the conch salad served with tostones (last time they ran out of tostones). My son ordered the beef and cheese empanada and beef with rice and beans sides. There were a couple of Puerto Rican military guys snd a family of 4, and tons of door dash orders being picked up - now you know that's indication of authentic cuisine! Highly recommended, there's plenty to try!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Dec 16, 2023Previous reviewThe food here deserves 10 stars! Thank you to fellow Yelp reviewers who led me to suggest my friends to go to El Borincano for dinner. While the restaurant only seats 12 people, the ambiance and aroma is so welcoming.
I ordered the Bistec Encebollado - beef sautéed with onions with 2 sides that you can choose from: salad, white rice, yellow rice, tostones or sweet plantains. I got salad and yellow rice. The salad was so fresh served with no dressing however it goes well with the house sauce (akin to thousand island with mayo..?). Yellow rice is moist. My friends ordered Fried Pork Chop and conch salad. These were served in delicious well seasoned portions. Highly recommend this restaurant, easily my best Latin American restaurant. You will NOT be disappointed, guaranteed! - Jan 30, 2024
I'm obsessed with mofongo so I looked for a Puerto Rican spot for my birthday dinner. The whole fried red snapper photo made me drool a lil bit so I decided to check it out. Very small space with a few tables. Looks like a local spot in PR. Felt bad for coming 45 min prior to closing but the young lady greeted us with kindness. Fried cheese was fire!! Didn't even need a dipping sauce. I prefer my mofongo a lil crispy on the outside but I don't think I've ever had bad mofongo. Beef was tender and juicy like it had been stewing all day soakin up the flavors. Will definitely visit again!

We were in town from Richmond for a shopping trip and decided to stop here for dinner. Food was very authentic, flavorful, and delicious. Small place, three small tables and had to wait about fifteen minutes but the wait was worth it. The Alcapurrias had a very thin masa but enough to have a good amount of meat. My daughter had the mofongo, I had the Pernil and my husband had the chicharron de pollo, again very delicious. If in town definitely check it out.

Very authentic Puerto Rican food. Only place in the area that makes pollo guisado with cut up chicken parts instead of being lazy and using dry chicken breast. Only issue I had was the first time we ordered, we got a pretty huge serving of it and the beans were in a larger container. Second time it was a very small serving and the beans were in such a small container, there was barely enough for all of the rice you got. Come on. You know that's just wrong. lol! Alcapurrias were huge and delicious too. Don't skimp on the beans and food. You all know us Puerto Ricans just don't do that.

We ordered the Cubano and Pastrami Sandwiches , A side of Maduros , Sorullo De Queso and a Malta Malteada . The food was amazing and reminded me of home. Everything was hot and freshly cooked and made, the fries that came with my food were so crispy and tasted really good. Lastly the Malteada was so good I didn't even get a chance to take a picture of it because I couldn't put it down. Overall amazing place to eat, lady that attended us was super nice and helpful, the place was clean and had some good music playing, highly recommended!

I have been to a few Puerto Rican restaurants in the Virginia Beach and Norfolk areas of Virginia and by far this place has been 2/2 thus far. You would never think this little "hole in the wall" spot would have such delicious food. I had a "pollo guisado" which is basically stew chicken and was surely pleased by the warmth and flavor the food had. Jose is the hostess and he is super chiLLax and EMario is the chef who was also very humble. The food was plated nicely and had everything you would expect in a plate of "pollo guisado" with lettuce , tomatoes, white rice and red beans . I felt as though my Grandmother had cooked it and plated it for me (I'm sure she was happy to see me eating this amazing food from Heaven where she lives (God rest her soul).

It was fresh and on point. Not the prettiest place for a new date , but I'd come back here. The arroz con gandules and perniL was on point. The flan de coco was also really good. Pretty much a small hole in the wall , but I'd say it's valid . - Tracy T. S.Ghent, Norfolk, VA2104125Nov 6, 2022
The night I decided to patronize this restaurant, there was MAJOR Police Activity. It was difficult getting there, but worked it out. The place is very small, very "cozy," intimate. It's definitely, an authentic Puerto Rican/Spanish restaurant. The food, good. I ordered the Roasted Pork, red beans and rice, a side of Plantain - which is usually included as part of the meal at other places, but, oh well. I also ordered the fried pork - which I love - primarily for the skin. Here, it's more pork, than skin.
The total came to $35.00 with a menial tip - it was "to go."
Over all, a good experience. I won't order the fried pork again though; not enough "skin."Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mister V.VA, VA22521226Aug 7, 2022

I had a very delicious shrimp salad for take home only thing I would change is more olives and I really didn't taste vinaigrette in the salad so I'm assuming I should have gotten it on the side and did not get it. Regardless the salad was still very good as is and I would get it again. Tea is also tasty! I am Looking forward to trying more on the menu.
El Borincano is very small restaurant four maybe five tables.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
