We've been frequenting Smood for a few years now. Lately, service sucks - I mean, worse than Starbucks and definitely worse than my local coffee shop - and they've gotten sloppy with preparation.
Our two most recent visits have resulted in spending upwards of around $60 on 4 hawaj shakes and an avocado toast. None of these items were done properly. The avocado was sparse and slapped onto barely toasted spelt bread. The hawaj shakes were first given without whipped cream or toppings because they ran out (it was only noon...) and second time given without toppings. It was noticeable that the recipes were different each time - making me wonder if they were out of ingredients for the shakes themselves, too.
This wouldn't have been so big a problem for me had I been told they're out of some things ahead of time. They had the chance to. I stood at the register for a good 4 minutes before the cashier took my order because she was talking about something presumably (from listening in as they communicated) unimportant with a co-worker. It's not like I was hiding or anything, I was wearing bright red and standing right next to the counter facing her.
Tldr, Smood has lost it's magic. I was fine paying a ridiculous amount for hot chocolate and tumeric ginger lattes when they was served with care and tocotrienols. Sometimes it was a meal replacement with how full I felt afterwards - so I could justify it all. Now, it's just Starbucks with worse regulation and service. I never leave satiated. If there's not going to be many of the ingredients listed on the menu in the dishes and drinks you serve, you should just close up shop.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - 494129289May 10, 2024
My bev was good, not my fav but I was opened to the new flavor/ingredients. I finished all and it was good, felt healthy and worth the price. I added honey at the end but it was sweeter but for some reason I may prefer it without honey or just a little honey.

For a coffee shop in Soho, Dr. Smood definitely is one of the few places I can recommend as a solid spot to sit down and study. There is a large amount of table space for laptop users, and it does not get too crowded in the mornings. They also have a large variety of decaf and caffinated coffees, lattes, and flavors. There are a few outlets and there is also a bathroom,
Things to keep in mind, is that there is no cash allowed here. As for the lattes, I ordered a lavender latte, and although I did feel that the preperation could be improved, it did taste great. Something to keep in mind is that they dont have the in-house cups for people who love the aesthetic pic of their coffee at the coffeeshops they rotate through. The ambiances is great, not too crowded in the mornings. There also are a large variety of toast, snacks, and breakfast foods that my friends enjoyed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jan 26, 2024
Honestly was kind of underwhelmed by Dr.Smood. Perhaps we got there too early in the morning (right when they opened). The wellness shots that were advertised on their sign were not even available - Which was the main reason I waited for them to open. We ended up getting an overpriced juice with pineapple and grapefruit. It wasn't worth the price but tasted good. I think we make better juices at our house. I was hesitant to get anything else but they had lots of healthy food options all coordinated by the health vibe that you're feeling for the day.

Service was quick - you order at the counter and your food will be ready quite quickly!
Food was not impressive compared to the price. The kale salad was not satisfying but the spicy jalapeño toast had a nice kick.
Ambiance was very nice!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elmer P.Los Angeles, CA10715643Dec 24, 2023
I visited the café on Dec 24 at noon and had a disappointing experience with the cashier. When I inquired about tea, the cashier's response was quite curt, suggesting I should have read the menu board. Fortunately, the barista was friendly, but the cashier could benefit from improving their customer service skills.

In a nutshell: Great SoHo location, OK for a stop and charge your phone not so much as work place, and in terms of the coffee offering... it is... a very well acquired niche taste.
GOOD
Amazing location, sitting outside to watch people if the weather allows, is the best option; Perhaps the desserts are great to pair it with.
BAD
I've been there twice, the first time the dispatcher acted annoyed at my questions and no poker face at all when I attempted to pay with cash (hello, how am I suppose to know your "business rules", am I expected to use my mind reading abbilities? Like that? It is rude, without permission!
WORST
NO CASH ALLOWED. If this is not enough for you, how about cappuccino in almond milk with pretty much taste the same (what varies is the quality and flavor of the coffee) anywhere, but not here... Using the word acquired taste would be too generous to describe that horrible THING they dare say it's coffe or almond milk, doesn't taste like neither!!! On my first visit that golden latte thing tasted like a potent ginger-like beverage that it was not tasty but too aggresive for my palette so I did not finished it.
On my second and most recent visit, I decided to stop by to charge my phone and use my laptop to answer to some emails. Although my interaction at the cash register was way more pleasant than last time, I was so mad at that thing they call cappucino in almond milk that I had no choice but to slowly nurse it as I was able to work through. It wasn't long I noticed the room temperature to drop, I turn back and coincidentally that employee from my first visit was dead-eye looking at me. I am OK, is not personal things happen to coincide like that but bottom line, I did not felt welcome neither their brand is my taste so I guess is best to part ways.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David V.Boston, MA991355607Jul 3, 2022
omg the drinks here are so good.... im obsessed.
I got the Golden Mylk Latte with cashew milk and im nutting.. so yummy, and i feel so skinny after this. perfect amount of sweetness!! and super refreshing! I got it iced, and default is 16oz, which is perfect. I just am not a fan of the price... $8 for my drink. oh well, but for being skinny ill take it. the tumeric reduces any inflammation.
