DMV Empanadas

I got 4 empanada & 1 soda can drink combo for 16$. The empanadas I got were the shrimp old bay, masaco (plantain,pork,cheese), spicy chicken, and cheeseburger. With a price tag of nearly 4$ for 1 singular empanada they are pretty damn small.
The shrimp old bay was very good and easily my favorite of all the empanadas I had.
The plantain masaco empanada was disappointing due to the fact that I was expecting sweet plantains and did not get that.
The spicy chicken empanada and cheeseburger empanada were decent but forgettable.

The empanadas while creative and unique are definitely overpriced and not worth it with how small the empanadas are.

Out at the mosaic farmers market and came across this gem. They have a variety of options to have fresh or take frozen. The service is excellent and speedy. The venders were very nice. The tent area has a warmer to keep the empanadas warm and fresh.

I opted for the shrimp old bay and spicy chicken empanadas. Let me tell you... I've never had a shrimp old bay empanada and I loved this. The shrimp was tender and the sauce was saucing!!! Highly recommend. The spicy chicken was flavorful and well balanced.

Overall I will definitely be back, I should've purchased some frozen ones as well. #regret Make sure to catch them at the mosaic farmers market!!

I'm so sad this place is permanently closed :( I wonder why - since their empanadas were sooo good. Their spinach cheese and chicken empanadas were my favorite.
I would love the recipe since I can no longer have them anymore :(

This place had the longest line of any vendor at the Sunday Mosaic Farmers Market. Have never heard of the place, but after a quick Yelp search decided I had to try it.

They have a wide variety of options, that you can order both hot and frozen (in case you want to take them home and heat them up). I had a bunch of other food to eat, so only ordered a Chorizo Potato. It was $4, and wasn't that big - But was absolutely delicious. The empanada was mostly filling, and not a ton of crust which I appreciated. Strong chorizo flavor and the spicy sauce took it over the top. Really enjoyed this place, and next time I'll be back I'll be sure to make a stop again to try other flavors!

It's been a minute since I've been back,

They closed off almost the entire restaurant for dine in. Now there are two booths for eating. Although there are signs posted that no dine in allowed. The nice cashier allowed my friend and I, to eat in.
They have a good selection of empanadas. However, a lot of them had stuff that I didn't want in my empanadas, like raisins or potatoes.
There's just some ingredients that interesting to go into an empanadas. (My opinion)

Like I wanted bbq pork, but why put celery, sweet corn and BBQ sauce? Why not just pulled pork and cheese?

The crust is still left to be desired. Not flaky or what I'm used to. I hope they improve on their menu.

My choices were spicy chicken and shrimp.

The empanadas are small but they are fully packed with filling. The crust is ok. What I like is the top of the crust is labeled with the type of empanada you're getting. Still $4 is a little high,

They do carry Inca cola which is a must with this meal. There's plenty of parking in the back.

Finally tried this place and the whole family loved them. I got 3 flavors. Beef, chicken, and cheeseburger and all 3 were a hit bursting with flavor. It's also easy to identify which was which because the empanada shell itself says what flavor it is and I thought that was super cool. These little pockets of goodness didn't last long in my house and I wish I had ordered more at the time lol. Cute little place with friendly staff. Easy to order. Fresh hearty ingredient's for a good price.

Tried them at the Bethesda Farmers Market @ the Bethesda Elementary School parking lot. Here's my take:
1. It wasn't busy at all, the one guy there didn't seem interested in answering questions. I was going to try several, but because of the attitude, I decided to try only one.
2. For $4 a piece (he said no discounts even if you buy in bulk), the chorizo and bacon was just okay, not great. For the price point I was hoping it was bigger or at least tastier. It was spicy, but couldn't taste the bacon.
3. For the size and quality, I'd be willing to pay $2-$2.50 max.
4. I wanted to like them, but the service, flavor, and size were underwhelming for that price point. If you don't mind paying a premium, it's not bad if you're craving empanadas.

Have you ever looked at a menu, & you just KNOW the food is going to HIT? Well...that's the case with this Empanada spot!! Yes, Craft empanadas is all they have. I made my selections gassed up, & journeyed out to Gaithersburg M.D.
